Sodium chlorate/hydrochloric acid mixtures were used to chlorinate activated arenes and the $\alpha$-position of ketones. This chlorination method was used to produce selectively mono-, di-, and trichlorinated compounds by controlling the molarity of sodium chlorate. This reagent proved to be much more efficient and easier to handle than chlorine gas.

Sodium hypochlorite used in water disinfection processes is generally in the production of chlorine to 0.8%. As the dose of chlorine increases, disinfection by-products (Chlorate) also increase simultaneously and exceed water quality standards. In this study, the electrolytic cell of a sodium hypochlorite generator (12% chlorine) was adjusted to control the production of the disinfection by-products. As a result, it was possible to reduce Chlorate concentrations by more than 95% by adjusting the pH of the electrolytic cell from 1.53 to 4.2 (normal pH of the electrolytic cell). As a low current is required to obtain these results, a 15% improvement in the efficiency of the positive electrode is also observed. For the development of High Sodium Hypochlorite Generation can be used in a safe sodium hypochlorite solution, which is expected to contribute to improvement in the safety of the disinfection process.
Salmonellosis is a major bacterial zoonosis that causes self-limited enteritis to fatal infection in animals and food-borne infection and typhoid fever in humans. Multidrug-resistant strains of Salmonella spp. has increased over the last several decades and recently causes more serious problems in public health. The present study was investigated bacteriocidal effects of sodium chlorate, sodium azide, sodium cyanide, and sodium salts mixture containing sodium chlorate, sodium azide, and sodium cyanide on infection with S. typhimurium in macrophage RAW 264.7 cells, and antibacterial effects of sodium salts mixture for murine salmonellosis. In infection assay of S. typhimurium in RAW 264.7 cells, bacterial survival rates within macrophage in all treated groups was significantly reduced comparing to that of the control group with the passage of incubation time. Administration of sodium salts mixture showed a therapeutic effect for S. typhimurium infected ICR mice. The mortality of mice treated with sodium salts mixture was 70% until 12 days, while that of control mice was 100% until 9 days after S. typhimurium infection. The results of this study strongly indicate that sodium salts mixture has a potency treatment for murine salmonellosis.
Simultaneous analytical method has developed for the determination of anion biocides in soil by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Chlorite and chlorate in soil were extracted with pure water, and cyanuric acid and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (Na-DBS) were extracted with mobile phase (0.25 mM ammonium formate in 20 mM formic acid : acetonitrile (1:1)). The extract was injected into the LC-MS/MS system after filtration. The method detection limits in this study were 0.04 mg/kg for chlorite, 0.04 mg/kg for chlorate, 0.27 mg/kg for cyanuric acid, and 0.05 mg/kg for Na-DBS, respectively. The method was applied to the analysis of 50 soil samples collected from 40 sites sprayed with biocides and 10 background sites. As a result, anion biocides were not detected in all sites.
Sodium hypochlorite, used as water disinfectant, is generated by electrolysis of salt. Compared to chlorine gas disinfection, it is free from high-pressure gas regulation and does not generate toxic gas, so it is increasingly used as a safe disinfectant. Despite these advantages, the concentration of sodium hypochlorite decreases with temperature during long-term storage, and the amount of chlorate increases when a large amount is added, it has mainly been applied to small-scale waterworks. To solve this problem, high sodium hypochlorite generation was developed. In this study, the changes of concentration and chlorate of sodium hypochlorite with time has been studied. As a result of the test, it was found that the usable period of sodium hypochlorite produced at a certain temperature or less was increased from 1.5 days to 13 days. Overall, sodium hypochlorite can be applied even in large-scale waterworks, which makes operation more stable and also reduces the disinfection byproducts, thus it contributed greatly to securing water quality.
The present study was evaluated the antibacterial effect of the combination of $Coptidis$$rhizoma$, $Glycyrrhiza$$uralensis$ Fischet, $Schizandra$$chinensis$ and $Corni$$Fructus$(1:1:1) extracts(CGSC10). Furthermore, the effectiveness of CGSC10, sodium chlorate, and the combination of CGSC10 and sodium chlorate(CGSCS10) against $E.$$coli$ O157:H7 infection was studied using ICR female mice. During the incubation period, the dose of 5, 10, and 20% CGSC10 was inhibited the growth of $E.$$coli$ O157:H7 by 34.7, 60.2, and 76.4%, respectively. For 7 days after single challenge with $E.$$coli$ O157:H7, forty female ICR mice were divided into four experimental groups which were administered in drinking water with saline, 10% CGSC10, 15 mM sodium chlorate, and CGSCS10, respectively. On the 3rd day, the number of $E.$$coli$ O157:H7 in mouse feces was significantly decreased by administration of CGSC10, 15 mM sodium chlorate, and CGSCS10 ($p$ < 0.001). On the 7th day-after administration, CGSC10, sodium chlorate, and CGSCS10 were decreased the number of $E.$$coli$ O157:H7 by 27.1, 67.7, and 83.3%, respectively. According to the results of the present study, administration of CGSCS10 to mice can reduce the severity of $E.$$coli$ O157:H7 infection. In addition, it is suggested that CGSCS10 represents a good candidate for the treatment of enteric infections in domestic animals.

On the electrolytic preparation of sodium chlorate, lead dioxide anode, instead of graphite was tested to find out the characteristics for current efficiency and life in various conditions. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. The current efficiency is slightly increased with the anode current density, until 25A/$dm^2$ 2. The higher the current concentrations. the lower current efficiencies are observed, particularly in case of both not-adding the potassium dichromate and large current concentration of more than 50A/l 3. The current efficiency may be improved linearly as the both temperature is raised.

In chlorine dioxide delignigication or bleaching, chlorate is mainly formed by the reaction between chlorite and hypochlorous acid, thus scavengers of chlorine or hypochlorous acid can be used to reduce the formation of chlorate which is unfavorable to environment. In this study, additives such as sulfamic acid, DMSO, hydrogen peroxide, or sodium chlorite was added to chlorine solution or pure $ClO_2$ solution to check their reactivity with $Cl_2$ and $ClO_2$. These additives were also added directly into general $ClO_2$ solution which contained certain amount of chlorine, then the additive-treated $ClO_2$ solution were used in bleaching stages. The aim of this procedure was to remove the original amount of chlorine that was thought to be possibly the main reason for the formation of chlorate and AOX. The additives were found to be able to eliminate chlorine very fast and selectively, but $H_2$$O_2$ should be used under pH4, otherwise it also reacts with $ClO_2$. After the additives reacted With $Cl_2$, DMSO turned into an inactive product $(CH_3)_2SO_2$, While Sulfamic acid turned into $HClSO_3H$ that still remained active in oxidation, and $NaClO_2$ produced $ClO_2$. The addition of $HNaClO_2$ showed significant improvement in delignification but the deeper delignification led to higher formation of chlorate. When the additive-treated chlorine dioxide solutions were used in bleaching, both sulfamic acid, DMSO, and hydrogen peroxide showed no significant changes of DE brightness and Kappa number. The formation of chlorate was reduced by addition of sulfamic acid, DMSO and hydrogen peroxide.

Adequate regrowth control of weeds and shrubs has been one of the important problem for pasture establishment by overseeding on reclaimed forest hilly land. This experiment was carried out on sloping shrub land near Anseong, Gyeonggido to evaluate the effects of herbicide application on growth control of native weeds, shrubs and trees. We evaluated 63 different weeds and wood species in the trials, which are grown common in korean forest. Buthidazol and 4 other herbicides (sodium chlorate, glyphosate, U-46 and gramoxone) were sprayed each at two application rates during the period of the most intensive growth, on 20 July 45 days before overseeding of pasture species. Glyphosate and sodium chlorate gave excellant control of growth of all species. However. Uncus effusus, Carex heterostachya, Polygonatum humile, Rubus corchorifolius, Lonicera coeralea and Rhododendron mucronulatum were classified as a tolerant weed and wood species to herbicides. Herbicide buthidazol showed also successive control of regrowth of weeds and wood species. But buthidazol was evaluated as a none available herbicide for use in pasture establishment. because o! their long persist of toxic herbicide residue in soils after treatments. Herbicide U-46 and gramoxone had almost no effect on regrowth of shrubs and tree species
