  • Social media is being increasingly utilized in disaster relief work to identify safety issues, locate displaced-victims, and seek or provide support for those who need help. The presence of social media in disaster management has changed significantly in recent years, as it was not prevalent in the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, but had become a powerful force in the 2013 Ya'an earthquake. This paper discusses the development of social media in disaster management via making a comparison between how it functioned in the two earthquakes. It examines the following aspects: who are the stakeholders that use social media in the earthquake management; how do they adopt this means in response to the earthquakes; and what are the outcomes of adopting social media with regards to public engagement and collaboration in an emergency event. As Sina Weibo acts as the equivalent of China's Twitter, the methodology relies on an analysis of posts in Weibo. The outcomes primarily show that: (1) authorities, celebrities and the public actively adopted social media for the purpose of information dissemination and resource mobilization; and (2) social media users are both content consumers and content generators in the times of earthquakes. The study concludes that social media as a backchannel communication tool is helpful for government institutions, corporations, and nonprofit organizations to build relationships with their stakeholders in the disaster management cycle. The result will interest academics and emergency management practitioners who are concerned with improving disaster communication.

  • Social media such as Twitter and Facebook have become popular. In the age of social media, many people have become more active online. For example, about half of all global active Internet users are on Facebook (Perry 2012). Personal branding is a very important strategy to build on an individual's strengths, and this kind of branding is expected to contribute to self-actualization. Therefore, the presence of mentors who advise users to discover their own strong points for self-actualization is necessary. In this paper, we propose a personal branding support service, Mentors, which connects mentors and mentees. The core concept is: "Everyone has the face of both a mentor and mentee." The key function is sharing stages of self-analysis in human life design: Determining value, creating a mission, and forming a strategy. From this function, a good match between a mentor and mentee can be found. The program aims to improve human life by understanding the client's strengths and using social media effectively. Future work includes launching Mentors and evaluating its service.

After deleting 48 incomplete ones, 252 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. Frequency analysis and exploratory factor analysis using SPSS 23.0 and confirmatory factor analysis and structure equation analysis using AMOS 18.0 were employed for data analyses. Results - First, four factors were extracted for the chatbot's characteristics: ease of use, social presence, playfulness and usefulness. Second, regarding the effect of chatbot's characteristics on service value when purchasing fashion products in the mobile shopping environment, ease of use, playfulness and usefulness of chatbot significantly affected service value. • This study is a study of factors affecting pre-service teachers' learning immersion in online science classes. The results of a survey on the responses of 88 pre-primary teachers to online science classes were interpreted. In online science class, independent variables were set as ease, usefulness, and social presence, and dependent variables were set as learning immersion. Online science classes were conducted based on the university's LMS system. The results of the study were interpreted by regression analysis for t-test, correlation between factors, and multicollinearity test in pre-post-responses of pre-service teachers for ease, usefulness, and social presence. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was a significant effect in the before-and-after tests of factors in the online science class. Second, the correlation coefficient between factors in online science class is .306 for sense of community and mutual support and concentration at the significance level of .01, and .354 for learning immersion and open communication, indicating that there is a correlation. Third, considering the effective results of the pre-post test of each factor in the online science class, it cannot be interpreted that a particular factor had an effect, but it is interpreted that learning was immersed in ease, usefulness, and a sense of social presence.

  • The present study surveyed 225 undergraduates to examine their social media use behaviors and their perceptions of usefulness, trustworthiness, and privacy of social media for seeking and sharing health information. 151 respondents reported using social media for health information while 74 reported not using it for health matters. Results show that the most popular medium were social Q&As, followed by blogs and social networking sites. Age, gender, school year, and the presence of a health problem were associated with the social media use behaviors. This study suggests the potential of social media as a desired channel for providing health information to undergraduates.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly changing the behavior of members of society. Typically, the strong contagious power of the virus minimizes interaction between people in the real world, and they keep interaction activities to a minimum through online activities. Recently, as people demand online activities that enhance a sense of reality, the metaverse, which strengthens the 3D technology-centered sense of presence capability, is being chosen by people. The purpose of this study is to suggest a strategic direction for the establishment of the metaverse business model of startups by presenting factors for users' use and gratification of the metaverse. In detail, this study proposes the motivation for using the metaverse by reflecting the uses and gratification theory, and suggests a method to strengthen the motivation for the metaverse by reflecting the presences provided by the metaverse plotform and individual characteristics (normtive interpersonal influence). We surveyed people over 20 years of age who experienced metaverse and obtained 314 samples. In addition, we conducted the main effect analysis using the structural equation model and the moderating effect analysis using Process 3.1. As a result of hypothesis testing, we confirmed that metaverse presence (telepresence, social presence) has a positive effect on intention to continuous use by increasing metaverse's use and satisfaction factors (information, enjoyment, social interactivity). In addition, we found that individuals' normative interpersonal influence moderated the positive relationship between uses and gratification factors(enjoyment and social interactivity) intention to continuous use. Our study suggests strategies for establishing a user-centered business model for companies related to the metaverse.

  • The purpose of this study is that we regard the notion of reality that television viewers feel as presence, point out problem of measurement tool that appropriate for TV, clarify the subordinate concept of presence, and develop measurement tool that have reliability and validity. To achieve this, we paid attention to reality of television as a determinant of presence and tried to elicit proper subcategories. That is, we progressed two steps research that distinguished external characteristic and content of the media into sensible reality and cognitive reality, and develop measure item and verified statistical validity. We analyzed the second research result about measurement category of presence selected by first research and then we did Exploratory factor analysis and Confirmatory factor analysis. As a result, the first characteristic that make people experience presence is sensible reality, that is, it is the factor of sensible faithfullness, image faithfullness, and image reality as the form factor of the media. The second characteristic is cognitive reality. That is the factor of social reality, relational reality, and practical reality as the factor of media content. Synthesizing these subordinate factor, we can conceptualize presence experience as a reality of media form and content in HDTV viewing environment.
