  • The purpose of this study is to verify the feasibility of a model, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), that predicts the intention of a problem gambler to abstain from gambling. In order to investigate attitudes toward gambling abstinence, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, and intentions to abstain from gambling, we surveyed 100 problem gamblers who used community-based service centers. Furthermore, we analyzed by the structural equation model whether attitude toward gambling abstinence, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control can influence the intention to abstain from gambling. The analysis of the study model revealed that the most powerful predictor of the gambling abstinence intention is perceived behavior control, followed by a positive attitude toward gambling abstinence. In contrast, subjective norms did not show a significant influence on intentions for gambling abstinence. Based on these results, we propose cognitive-behavioral interventions to improve attitudes and self-efficacy toward gambling abstinence in order to help problem gamblers recover. In other words, continuous support and coping-skills training are needed to reinforce the belief that people can recover from a gambling problem, and information and education on problem gambling to improve positive attitudes can also be helpful. Therefore, it is possible to consider not only the treatment of gambling problems, but also to provide preventive interventions centering on the addiction management institution.

  • The trust toward the researchers and their study activities in society has faltered, in the wake of the paper fabrication event of researcher, Hwang Woo-Suk's doctor research team. After the event, researcher community and scientific community have experienced many changes through the self-reflection or the process of insight meditation. Until now, we have experienced that when researcher community leads the way to try to show their efforts to eliminate the raised doubts throughly, the public support toward researcher community and the trust in its study activity have not faltered. Nevertheless, the path for the researchers to go is still far and rough because the opposite cases coping with research misconducts passively are much more. Therefore It's urgent that misconducts in the research and learning should be avoided from unnecessary overinterpretation. To practice it, above all it's important how well researcher or learner should be equipped with a system where decision is made autonomously and reasonably, regardless of the interests from all fields including politic, economic and social etc. It's also required that their systems should be meticulous enough to prevent such irrationality in advance before the misconduct instances are depreciated. In this context, I will investigate the reason why research and development on norms in research ethics and learning ethics is meaningful, not in a posteriori but a priori dimension, as the way to have researcher and learner prepare autonomous self-purification systems. It's essential that for the progress of an obvious argument, first, what research ethics and learning ethics are should be established and defined distinctly(2). Then in the process, it is also examined why research ethics and learning ethics need norms(3). Subsequently I will conclude the paper, arguing the reason why research ethics and learning ethics should be justified(4), if the norms in research ethics and learning ethics can be formulated(5).

  • The results of advanced studies which handled the relationship between social norm and intention to use illegal download don't match exactly. This study determined that the reason why the results of advanced studies are confused is, that moderator variables play important roles. For this reason, this study planned to test for significance of moderators consisting of attitude to copyright law(A) and perceived price importance at time of purchase(B). To achieve this, the present study divide social norm into two norms(subjective norm and group norm) and set up hypotheses on the moderating effects of two variables(A, B) between these two norms and intention to use the illegal download. The results show that all but one hypotheses are accepted. The other moderating effect hypothesis which is consist of subjective norm and attitude toward copyright law is rejected. This means that the effect of group norm on intention to use illegal download is moderated by attitude to copyright law. Also, this result means the effects of group/subjective norm on intention to use illegal download is moderated by the perceived price importance at time of purchase.

  • This study analyzed the factors affecting the reemployment intention of the baby boomer. To this end, an extended Model of Goal-directed Behaviors(MGB) was set as a research model. The extended MGB used in this study added economic readiness and social capital to attitudes, subjective norms, positive anticipated emotions, and perceived behavioral control variables as independent variables. The desires was set as a mediating and the reemployment intention was set as the dependent variable. The research model was empirically analyzed with 201 baby boomers. Empirical analysis showed that economic preparation had a negative effect on reemployment intention, and social capital had a positive effect on reemployment intention. Economic preparation rather than social capital was found to have a stronger impact on the intention of reemployment. Attitudes, subjective norms, positive anticipated emotions, and perceived behavioral control variables were not tested for a significant direct effect on reemployment intention. They were found to have a significant influence on reemployment intention through the mediating of desires. Based on the results of this empirical analysis, academic and practical implications were presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish genre knowledge that can be used to study classical Korean novels. Genre knowledge is important because it characterizes individual works based on their knowledge, as well as organically links them with the social context. In this study, I suggest that long classical Korean novels with similar contents can be analyzed using genre knowledge and analyze the "register" of the representative work Sohyeonsungrok as an example of a classical Korean novel. In the Sydney school, register connects genre and language. Register comprises field, tenor, and mode in the social context, and ideological meaning, interpersonal meaning, and textual meaning through language. These three meanings help us to understand how experiences are transformed into language, the relationship between participants, and the way a text is organized. Based on these frameworks, this study reveals that the linguistic features of Sohyeonsungrok is "an attitude that accepts a wide range of human emotions and desires and steadily waits for it to be included in norms." Classic Korean novels such as Sohyeonsungrok depict characters who are not wicked even though they cannot fully comply with social norms, and thereby create sympathy for family members living through Confucian ideology. This genre knowledge is useful for understanding the ideological implications of classical Korean novels.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare rational process of active ageing and productive aging based on the theory of planned behavior. The effect of post-retirement may be influenced by attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control for old aged workers, then we tested the effect of mediating role of post-retirement preparation on active ageing and productive aging. And we conducted additional analyses of mediating role of post-retirement preparation respectively. Conducting a survey research to 192 employed old aged workers, the data was analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling. The result of this study found the positive effects of attitude and perceived behavioral control on active ageing through post-retirement preparation. There were negative effect of subjective norms and positive effect of perceived behavioral control on productive aging through post-retirement preparation. According to additional analyses, the mediating effect of social post-retirement preparation was significant on active ageing, and the mediating effect of emotional and social post-retirement preparation was significant on productive aging. Suggestions for future research and practical implications were provided based on the findings.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the patterns of time use between Korean and USA families. The data for 353 Seoul-based Korean families with two children living in Seoul and 130 USA families with two children living in the State of Utah were collected using a structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings were as the following: 1. The Korean couples spent more time at personal care, paid work, and travel than the USA couples did, while the USA couples spent more time at housework and social-cultural activities than the Korean couples did. 2. The Korean wives spent more time doing food and clothing related housework than the USA wives did. Compared with the Korean wives, however, the time spent at house cleaning and management, family care and shopping and home management were longer than USA wives. The time U.S. husbands engaged in housework was much greater than by the Korean husbands. 3. Regardless of sex and school level, the Korean children spent less time at sleeping/rest, housework and socio-cultural activities and more time at eating and learning than those of U.S. These time use patterns of the families in both countries may reflect the differences of the cultural contexts, social norms, life styles, and the degrees of urbanization. To fully explain the findings, further study on the differences in social and cultural factors between the two countries is needed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe health problems and psychosocial adaptation in children with cancer and to determine the relationship between these two variables. Method: The data were collected from parents of 61 children with cancer, aged 4-11 years at one university hospital in Seoul. The instruments for this study were the Korea Child Behavior Check List (KCBCL) and a physical symptom checklist developed by the researchers. Result: The major health problems were coughing, sleeping disturbances, fatigue and weakness. The total behavior problem score for children in the cancer group was higher than the score for those in the norm group. The scores on the scales for withdrawal, somatic complaints, social immaturity, and internalizing problems were higher in the children with cancer compared to normative findings. Scores on social and school competence in the cancer group were lower than the norms for healthy children. The relationship between health problems and psychosocial adaptation was significant in the subscales of withdrawal, anxiety/depression, internalizing problems and social involvement in the off therapy group. Conclusions: This study shows the various areas that need further study in caring for children with cancer.

  • The article assesses the functioning of the DE system or a separate educational institution, where it can be carried out on the basis of developed criteria or on a regulatory basis. The assessment was carried out on the basis of a qualitative and quantitative nature by comparing the actual state of affairs with a certain "ideal" (educational standard), which must be defined and used as a kind of benchmark against which the assessment is made. Conducted an assessment based on a regulatory framework that represents an alternative approach. It has been emphasized that the exceptional difficulty in determining the ideal indicators (norms) of the activities of universities, it has been found that the normative approach, in which the activities of traditional and open universities are compared, taking into account the differences in social, cultural and economic conditions, is the most acceptable.

  • The expansion of information sharing activities using online can increase the threat of information exposure by increasing the diversity of approaches to information within an organization. The purpose of this study is to present conditions for improving the information security compliance intention of insiders to improve the level of information security within the organization. In detail, the study applies the theory of planned behavior that clearly explains the cause of an individual's behavior and proposes a way to increase the compliance intention by integrating the social control theory and goal-setting theory. The study presented research models and hypotheses based on previous studies, collected samples by applying a questionnaire technique, and tested hypotheses through structural equation modeling. As a result, information security attitude, subjective norms, and self-efficacy had a positive influence on the intention to comply. Also, attachment, commitment, and involvement, which are the factors of social control theory, formed a positive attitude toward information security. Goal difficulty and goal specificity, which are the factors of goal setting theory, formed a positive self-efficacy. The study presents academic and practical implications in terms of suggesting a method of improving the information security compliance intention of employees.
