  • This study attempts to examine the moderating effect of religiosity in the relationship between religion and secular giving behavior (absolute amount and philanthropic effort). For the analysis, this study utilizes 'Giving Korea 2012' by the Beautiful Foundation and employs Tobit regression model. Focusing on giving amount, major findings are that (1) Protestants and Catholics give greater amounts for secular cause than those with no religious affiliation; and (2) interaction between Protestants and religiosity and interaction between Catholics and religiosity have significant relationships with citizens' secular giving amount in a positive direction. Focusing on philanthropic effort (giving amount divided by family income), major findings are that (1) there is no significant relationship between religion types and citizens' philanthropic effort and (2) interaction between Protestants and religiosity and interaction between Catholics and religiosity have significant relationships with citizens'philanthropic effort in a positive direction. This study provides new knowledge foundation on citizens' secular giving behavior and contributes to developing effective fundraising strategies of nonprofit organizations on religion-related donor markets.

  • This paper explores the relationship between Korean immigrants to the United States and their religious identity from the cultural point of view. Most scholarly studies on Korean immigrants in the United States have been dominated by sociological approach and ethnic studies in examining the social dimension of the Korean immigrant communities while neglecting issues concerning their religious identity and cultural heritage. Most Korean immigrants to America attend Korean churches regardless their religious affiliation before they came to America. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is the fact that Korean church has provided a necessary social service for the newly arrived immigrants. Korean churches have been able to play a key role in the life of Korean immigrants. Korean immigrants, however, have shown a unique aspect regarding their religious identity compared to other immigrants communities in the United States. America is a nation of immigrants, coming from different parts of the world. Each immigrant community has brought their unique cultural heritage and religious persuasion. Asian immigrants, for example, brought their own traditional religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism. People from the Middle Eastern countries brought Islamic faith while European Jews brought the Jewish tradition. In these immigrant communities, religious identity and cultural heritage were homo genously harmonized. Jewish people built synagogue and taught Hebrew, Jewish history, culture, and faith. In this case, synagogue was not only the house of worship for Jews but also the center for learning Jewish history, culture, faith, and language. In short, Jewish cultural history was intimately related to Jewish religious history; for Jewish immigrants, learning their social and political history was indeed identical with leaning of their religious history. The same can be said about the relationship between Indian community and Hinduism. Hindu temples serve as the center of Indian immigrantsin providing the social, cultural, and spiritual functions. Buddhist temples, for that matter, serve the same function to the people from the Asian countries. Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Tibetans, and Thais have brought their respective Buddhist traditions to America and practice and maintain both their religious faith and cultural heritage. Middle Eastern people, for example, have brought Islamic faith to the United States, and Mosques have become the center for learning their language, practicing their faith, and maintaining their cultural heritage. Korean immigrants, unlike any other immigrant group, have brought Christianity, which is not a Korean traditional religion but a Western religion they received in 18th and 19th centuries from the West and America, back to the United States, and church has become the center of their lives in America. In this context, Koreans and Korean-Americans have a unique situation in which they practice Christianity as their religion but try to maintain their non-Christian cultural heritage. For the Korean immigrants, their religious identity and cultural identity are not the same. Although Korean church so far has provides the social and religious functions to fill the need of Korean immigrants, but it may not be able to become the most effective institution to provide and maintain Korean cultural heritage. In this respect, Korean churches must be able to open to traditional Korean religions or the religions of Korean origin to cultivate and nurture Korean cultural heritage.

  • Various human resource information of the world can be found according to spread of social network such as facebook and twitter. There are an amounts of researcher information on the science and technology area but it is difficult to find a suitable researcher for research or business such as research partner, because researcher information is not systematically arranged. To solver this problem, we are constructing authority data system for science and technology based on authority information of overseas academic papers. In this paper, in order to construct the authority data, we extracts author identification elements from millions of overseas academic papers, which are published from 1994 to 2012. There are more than 50 author identification elements such as author name, affiliation, paper title, publisher, year, keywords, co-author, co-author's affiliation in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese. We construct the element database by extracting and storing an author identification information based on the elements from overseas academic papers. Future works includes that the authority database for overseas academic papers is constructed by storing an academic activities of researchers after author clustering with these extracted elements. The authority data is used to improve the researcher information utilization and activate community to find a suitable research partner or a business examiner.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the moderated mediation effects of parenting functioning on the relations between deviant peer's influences and delinquent behaviors in adolescence. To investigate the moderated mediation effects, simple slope test and bootstrapping method based on multiple linear regression(MLR) model were used. This study used data from wave 1-2(2003-2004) of the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS). Results showed that poorer parenting increased the probability that adolescents would affiliated with deviant peers, and more association with deviant peers, in turn, was related to delinquency. There was statistical significant interaction between affiliation with deviant peers and parenting in the model for delinquency. It implied that the relation between deviant peers and delinquency depends on the quality of parenting. Finally, indirect effect of earlier parenting on delinquent behavior through affiliation with deviant peers was moderated by later parenting. These results help clarify the conditions under which exposure to parenting behaviors can buffer the negative effect of deviant best friends on delinquent behaviors in adolescence. Practice and policy implications as well as further research topic were discussed to aid the search for highly effective preventive and treatment interventions.

  • This study surveyed and analyzed the labor market result when comparing the case that junior college students found a job after transferring to 4-year university with the case that they found the job directly after graduating the junior college. The difference of the occupational structure following the transfer was surveyed in detail and this study examined what effect the transfer had on the occupation status. The graduate occupation movement survey(GOMS) was used and the samples of 544 persons were extracted to use through propensity score matching(PSM) to raise the choice convenience of the sample. The occupation status index to use as a dependent variable was developed to apply. The study result is as follows. First, as a result of confirming the occupational structure of the transfer, the transfer students were distributed in more various industrial fields evenly compared to the non-transfer students in the horizontal industrial structure, and non-transfer students were intensively distributed in the certain field. In the vertical occupation status structure, transfer students were distributed in the high occupation status more than non-transfer students who were broadly distributed in the low occupation status. Second, it was revealed the college transfer was highly effective for the occupation status, which appeared statistically significantly. The explanation variable that appeared significantly outside of that included the parents' academic background, major affiliation, employment pattern, major job coincidence, and job coincidence. The higher students' academic background was, the higher the occupation status was and in case of the engineering natural science affiliation, the occupation status was higher than the humanities social science. In case of full-time workers, their occupation status was higher than one of part time workers and it was revealed the occupation status was high when the their major coincided with the job and their educational/technical level coincided with their job.

  • We analyze the embedded structure of the cooperative research network of innovation studies in Korea by employing the social network methodology. The network covers all the contributing authors of two journals such as JTI and KTIS, which are the representative journals in the area. Across the networks, the following is noted: networks are highly segmented and the link density is low. However, the KTIS network contains a huge component with 131 authors which implies the existence of a strong cooperative research infrastructure. We derived three sub-networks such as technology economics, technology management, and technology policy. The technology policy network has the lowest link density, while the technology management network of KTIS shows relatively high cohesion among the researchers. Simulation analysis for the mean links of networks by author affiliation divided into university and others show no significant difference between the two networks. We also found a higher ratio of linkage within affiliated network than between networks, rejecting our hypothesis that researchers will not discriminate their research partners due to strong governmental inducement of academia-res each-industry cooperation. The explainability of indices from network structure such as structural holes and clustering coefficients on the performance of researchers measured by the number of citations confirms the results reported in Oh, Choi & Kim (2006) which dealt with the research network of information systems.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify bibliographic characteristics of the top level articles among KCI indexed academic articles. Unlike the existing analysis on citation and most-cited articles, this study analyzed their bibliographic characteristics. The 3,453 articles were collected from 17 social science fields in KCI. The characteristics of authors, institutions, publications, journals, and citations were analyzed. According to the result of the analysis, there was a difference in the ratio of single authors to co-authors and in the number of co-authors. The authors were mostly single authors or two co-authors. In general, the percentage of authors of one article was high. Second, the types of institutions were mostly universities, and there were differences in the number of institutions with authors in each field. And the frequency of the authors' affiliation appeared uneven. There were a number of excellent research institutes and authors depending on the field. Third, the average of years to take to become the top articles for publication was 11 years in 2018. Fourth, most of the published journals were KCI registered journals, and the influence of the journals was not a factor. Fifth, there were differences in the number of cited counts between fields. This study is meaningful to grasp the influencing factors on the bibliographic characteristics of the most-cited articles for the social science field.

  • The purposes of this study were: 1) to investigate four aspects of high school students' clothing attitudes as compared with their needs and family value orientations. 2) to ascertain whether differences existed between toys and girls on four aspects of clothing attitudes. Needs were measured through The Need Diagnosis Scale (Jaung-Ku Whang: 1965). Family value orientations were measured through The Home Environment Inventory(Won-Sik Jung : 1970). Four aspects of clothing attitudes were assessed by means of Lee; Kahng; Lee; Yang's questionnaires. The questionnaires were administered to a sample of 576 senior high school students(285 boys and 291 girls) in Won-Ju. The data was analyzed by correlations, multiple regression, t-test. The results were as follows : 1) Need for exhibition was positively related to clothing exhibition and fashion interest for both boys and girls, and clothing conformity for boys only. Need for exhibition was negatively related to clothing modesty for boys only. Need for affiliation was positively related to clothing exhibition for both boys and girls, fashion for girls only, and clothing conformity for boys only. 2) Social climber family value orientation was positively related to clothing conformity and clothing modesty for boys only. Materialistic family value orientation was positively related to clothing exhibition. Traditional family value orientation was positively related to clothing modesty for both boys and girls, and negatively related to clothing exhibition. 3) Girls scored significantly higher than boys on attitudes toward fashion and clothing modesty, whereas boys scored significantly higher than girls on attitudes toward clothing conformity.
