  • This paper investigated the fire and smoke behavior in the compounded multiplex theater using FDS with various spacial and boundary conditions to ensure the fire safety of the multiplex. The results showed that more rapid temperature increase and smoke can be induced near the exit door for the lower fire load duo to the horizontal smoke movement. The overuse of fire resistants can generate more smoke while delaying combustion rate, which can give adverse effect to the evacuation. The mal-function of the exhaust fan would obstruct smoke exhaust but also retard the function of sprinkler head.

  • In this study, reduced scale experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of external wind in a road tunnel fire. Experiments were conducted in a $1.1m{\times}0.5m{\times}50.4m$ tunnel. 4.5 litter gasoline was used as a fuel. Temperature, oxygen and carbon monoxide concentration were measured. Smoke reaching time to the tunnel exit was affected by the external wind. When a fire was fully developed, wind effect is reduced compared with the early stage of a fire. CO concentration was reached at more than 1,500 ppm.

  • The wide gangway train have different indoor without the gate door to the most trains. in gangway train of structure without the section, heavy casualties are possible to occur by quite smoke movement in fire. in this study, fire behavior and smoke movement were analyzed as the locations and kinds of fire source by using FDS simulation tool. the model train size of $9m{\times}2.4m{\times}2.4m$ was serially constructed of six cars.

  • To predict the fire and smoke hazards of rail car with a evacuation model is essential for achieving life safety of all passengers in the event of fire. Currently, more than 30 different evacuation models are available and expected increasing demand in high population density areas as a metro train station. This paper includes brief history of evacuation models and review some key factors of design egress scenario, these are pre-movement time, egress route, location of fire, overturned carriage, and configuration of rail car. Applying the egress model for rail passenger car, users need to confirm the model's ability of physiological, psychological responses effecting to pre-movement time of individual or crowd unit, representation of complexity of carriage layout, and evaluation of effects of smoke.

  • This is the study to investigate the Algorithm of BRI 2002 which is high level estimation program of smoke movement and phenomenon for performance based of design named 'ROOT C', made by Japan. BRI2002 is composed of 3 parts, one is main program, and the others are 4 subroutines and blockdata. The aim of this study is to analyze the BRI 2002, the only one certified program for the P.B.D and compare the other common program for smoke movement simulation program.

  • For buildings where a large number of the evacuees who are restricted to evacuation behavior compared to normal people, evacuation safety zones should be secured against fire. In order to form a safe haven safety zone, we are going to predict the performance of the building and describe the plan to secure a safe haven zone accordingly.

  • Smoke composed of harmful gases such as carbon monocide and carbon dioxide is reconized as the major killer in fire situation. Especailly it is said that smoke movement is related to the panic phenomenon which threatens the life seriously. The purpose of this study is to investgate and analyse the reaction mechanism of harmful gas caused by fire effects on the human psychology and panic phenomenon.

  • The authors previously presented that the experimental technique using fine bubbles generated by electrolysis simulated fire behavior in a tunnel. We improve this experimental setup to enable this to be considered tunnel-ventilation by circulation of salt water. In this paper we introduce the new experimental setup and the visualization of fine hydrogen bubbles simulated smoke in a ventilated tunnel by using a laser sheet are presented.
