  • The 3D animation these days is confronted with a situation that should develop new contents fit for those circumstances of media in which new platforms such as smart phones, tablet PCs, and smart TVs, etc. are in a rapid change and establish media strategies. Attempts are made of developing methods to diversify content type coping with new smart media characteristics including smart phones, tablet PCs, and smart TVs, etc., with materials of the same story and character, and developing animation video contents based on new media technology. This study made avatas utilizing iClone, avata 3D production technology and investigated 3D animation production methods through costume editing and motion editing.

Smart Dimming Control Algorithm for Reducing Power Consumption of LED TV Backlight (LED TV 백라이트 소비전력 저감을 위한 스마트 디밍 알고리즘 개발)

  • In this paper, the new smart dimming algorithm which is mixed with PWM and PAM control method is proposed for reducing the power consumption of LED TV Backlight. The proposed technique is using the curve characteristics of LED forward voltage and current which is proportionally changing LED forward voltage as changing LED forward current. Therefore, each PWM and PAM control method has different LED forward voltage and current in the same brightness condition. The PWM control method adjusts the brightness of LED TV Backlight by only varying the duty ratio of PWM and constantly sustaining the amplitude of LED forward current and voltage. So, the level of LED forward current and voltage in the PWM control method is relatively high and constant regardless of duty ratio of PWM. On the other hand, the PAM control method adjusts the brightness of LED TV Backlight by directly varying the level of LED forward current. So, the level of LED forward current and voltage in the PAM control method is lowered according to the brightness level. For the above-mentioned reason, the PAM control method has the advantage of reducing the total power consumption of LED TV Backlight at the brightness condition of below 100%, compared with PWM control method. By implementing this characteristic to LED driver circuit with control algorithm in MCU, the power consumption of LED TV Backlight can expect to be reduced. The effectiveness of the proposed method, new smart dimming algorithm, CPWAM(=Conditional Pulse Width Amplitude Modulation), has been verified by experimental results.

  • In this paper, we proposed a smart learning model that reflects the environment of information and communication that rapidly changing with the advent of smart devices. There are varieties of screen size and performance of smart devices, but they can be classified smart phones, smart pads, personal computer(PC) and Smart TV. In this paper, we look for appropriate services model with method of interaction and educational content as per each device type, then present the development direction of smart learning that reflects the information communication environment and future smart learning service model according to the characteristics of each device.

  • Through reviewing the characteristics of digital TVs, which have emerged in CES since 2005, in the view of technology growth and substitution curves, this paper is to provide a prediction on the next generation's multi-media on smart environment. As a result, digital TV has been developed on the flow of its technology growth curve from the early version in 2005 to smart digital TV in 2013, which emphasizes the key word "connected", and it has already come to the market puberty.

  • With enforcement of five-day workweek system, leisure time for family has increased. However, there is imbalance between demand and supply of leisure because of the absence of proper way for spending leisure time with family. On the other hand, TV, which has been playing an important role as a media for family, shows new possibility of interaction with advent of Smart TV. With this tendency, now it could be an appropriate time for researching the healthy way to spend leisure time on weekend with family. Therefore this paper aims to propose a family farming contents called 'Our Farm', which links on-line and off-line. To firm up necessity and appropriateness of this paper, I analyzed existing thesis and games for family and did FGI(Focus Group Interview) with a family. In this research, I proposed the picture UI based on results of investigation.

  • 네트워크 기술의 발전으로 모바일 기기 콘텐츠 서비스의 일종인 N-Screen이 활발해 지고 있다. 이러한 N-Screen 서비스는 TV, PC 그리고 모바일 기기(스마트폰, 태블릿)등의 다양한 스크린에 소비되는 콘텐츠를 제공하는 것이다. 그러나 현재 대부분의 서비스들은 콘텐츠를 소비하는 기기에 맞게 인코딩 된 다수의 콘텐츠를 보유하고 있어야 한다. 하지만 현존하는 다양한 디스플레이 규격과 코덱에 적합하도록 콘텐츠를 변환하여 보관하는 것은 불가능한 상황이다. 따라서 현재 대부분의 서비스들은 대표적인 일부의 장비에 대한 콘텐츠만을 제공하고 있다. 또한 다양한 규격의 기기에 맞게 콘텐츠를 변환하여 제공하기 위해서는 고도의 컴퓨팅 파워가 요구된다. 따라서 본 논문은 스마트 TV에 그리드 컴퓨팅 기술을 적용하여 다양한 규격의 기기에 N-Screen 서비스를 제공하는 기술을 제안하고 설명한다.

  • 최근 방송 분야에서의 가장 큰 화두 중의 하나는 스마트TV라 할 수 있다. 구글의 스마트TV 발표를 시작으로 애플TV, 삼성TV 및 LG TV 등 기존 TV 시장에서 스마트TV 시장으로의 급속한 변화가 진행되고 있으며, N-스크린과 같은 스마트TV 관련 서비스들이 속속 등장하여 서비스되고 있는 상황이다. 본 고에서는 스마트TV 서비스에 대한 동향분석과 전망에 대해 소개한다.

Symbiotic Dynamic Memory Balancing for Virtual Machines in Smart TV Systems

  • Smart TV is expected to bring cloud services based on virtualization technologies to the home environment with hardware and software support. Although most physical resources can be shared among virtual machines (VMs) using a time sharing approach, allocating the proper amount of memory to VMs is still challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel mechanism to dynamically balance the memory allocation among VMs in virtualized Smart TV systems. In contrast to previous studies, where a virtual machine monitor (VMM) is solely responsible for estimating the working set size, our mechanism is symbiotic. Each VM periodically reports its memory usage pattern to the VMM. The VMM then predicts the future memory demand of each VM and rebalances the memory allocation among the VMs when necessary. Experimental results show that our mechanism improves performance by up to 18.28 times and reduces expensive memory swapping by up to 99.73% with negligible overheads (0.05% on average).

  • 홈 헬스케어 서비스를 위해서는 다양한 개인건강기기를 기반으로 사용자의 신체 상태를 측정하고 측정된 값을 적절하게 전송하는 시스템간의 통신과 인터페이스가 매우 중요한 요소이다. 그리고 개인 건강기기의 데이터를 이용한 상호운용성 확보를 위해서는 홈 헬스케어 의료기기와 홈 헬스케어 서버/게이트웨이 간의 ISO/IEEE 11073 표준을 만족해야 한다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 스마트 TV환경 기반의 헬스케어 서비스를 제공하기 위해, 홈 헬스케어 시스템에서 Bluetooth HDP를 통해 개인 건강기기와의 IEEE 11073 표준 연결성에 대해 연구하였다.
