Seoul's transportation system was changed drastically starting the first of June in two thousand. This policy includes integrated distance-based fare system and public transportation card system called smart card. Especially, as public transportation card data contains individual travel, transfer and using modes information it is possible to catch the characteristics of path-based individuals and mass transit. Thus, public transportation card data can contribute to evaluate the mass transit service in integrated public transportation networks. In addition, public transportation card data are able to help to convert previous researches and analyses with link-based trip assignment models to path-based mass transit service analysis. In this study, an algorithm being suitable for path-based trip assignment models is suggested and proposed algorithm can also contribute to make full use of public transportation card data. For this, column generation algorithm hewn to draw the stable solution is adopted. This paper uses the methodology that is to take local approximate equilibrium from partial network and expand local approximate equilibrium to global equilibrium.

Due to the problems of existing prepaid plastic card issued by Korea Highway Company, the prepaid electronic payment system using a smart card, called HipassPLUS Card, was developed to overcome the Problems. PSAM is one of the main component of the systea which can retrieve the value from HipassPLUS card, transmit the transaction data to CSAM, and store the accumulated account lists. For the safety of the elecoonic payment system, the functions of PSAM should be faultless. This paper developed a test module including the test method, the test checklist, and the test procedure. The test module examines the functionality and security of the payment mechanism to insure that the value stored in HipassPLUS card can be raid to PSAM by the merchants and the standardized SAM. The test module also inspects the transmission mechanism to send and store the transaction data kom PShM to CSAM correctly and safely. Ihe module is designed to test the standard items using the test checklists for PSAM. The test items and the test checklists of PShM was selected under the provision of the specification of Korea Highway Company and ISO standard. Ihe evaluation on PSAM using the test module indicates that PSAM satisfies the evaluation criteria on the quality characteristics of the functionality, security, and compatibility.

This research proposes a methodology to evaluate the rationality of passengers' route choice who make trips within Seoul metropolitan subway based on smart card data. The rationality of user route choice is divided into the degree of determinacy and similarity concepts as basic principle. Determinacy is the degree to which the route selected by the passenger is identical to the system optimal path. Similarity indicates the degree to which the route is similar to the system optimal path. The K-path search method is used for path enumeration, which allows for measurement of determinacy. To assess determinacy within similarity, transfer tag data of private operators is used. Consequently, the concept of similarity applied to the model is such that the passenger's path choice is identical to the path taken using the tag reader. Results show that the determinacy of appearance of the shortest path (K=1) is 90.4%, while the similarity of appearance as K=(2-10) is 7.9%, summing to 98.3%. This indicates that trips on the metropolitan subway network are being rationally explained. 1.7% of irrational trips are attributed to the unexplainable error term that occurs due to the diversity of passengers.

This study derives quantitative data on how much the fiscal deficit of subway operation agencies can be reduced in the process of charging free rides for the elderly in metropolitan subways during peak periods. In smart card data, every trip of elderly is recorded except fares. Therefore, it is required to establish a methodology for estimating the fares of elderly passengers and distributing them to subway opertation agencies as income. This study builds a simultaneous dynamic traffic allocation model that reflects the assumption that elderly selects a minimum time route based on the departure time. The travel route of the elderly is estimated, and the distance-proportional fare charged to the elderly is calculated based on this, and the fare is distributed by reflecting the connected railway revenue allocation principle of the metropolitan subway operating agencies. As a result of conducting a case study for before and after COVID-19 in 2019 and 2020, it is analyzed that Seoul Metro's annual free loss of 360 billion won could be reduced 6~8% at the morning peak (07:00-08:59), and 13~16% at the morning and afternoon peak (18:00-19:59).

This study analyzed passenger travel patterns especially for the transfer from metro to bus by using transit smart card data. We classified three types of land use such as residential, business, and shopping area where metro stations are located. The results show that more number of transfers was observed at residential area compared to that of shopping and business area. Also, more number of transfers from metro to arterial bus was observed than that of transfers to local bus. Further, the high number of transfers to arterial bus was observed at business and shopping area. This means that the transfer to bus at metro stations varies by land use. The egress walk distance from metro station was found to be approximately 400 meters and the average walk distance of young people was found to be shorter than that of the old.

Recently, the Korean government promoted the construction of metropolitan express subway to connect major transportation hub in the metropolitan area within 30 minutes. Most stations of the metropolitan express subway are connected to existing subway stations, so the importance of transfer increased. Although many studies have been conducted on the effect of transfer penalty on route choice, there are few studies on the transfer behavior of the metropolitan express subway. Therefore, in this study, a transfer behavior analysis was conducted on the Shinbundang Line, a representative metropolitan express subway. To analyze the transfer behavior according to the degree of traffic congestion and the presence of fare payment, route choice models were made using transport card data divided according to week, time, and user characteristics. As a result of the analysis, users of the metropolitan express subway had greater disutility to the transfer waiting time compared to the transfer moving time. Furthermore, especially during the peak time, EIVM(Equivalent in-vehicle minutes) of the transfer waiting time was 3.51. In this study, EIVM for metropolitan express subway users were analyzed to be 2.6 minutes, which is significantly lower than the results of previous studies on subways. This suggests that there is a difference in the transfer penalty between subways and metropolitan express subway, and that it is necessary to apply the transfer penalty between subways and express subway differently when forecasting subway traffic demand.

Recently, the Korea Highway Company is replacing their prepaid plastic cards with a smart card, called $Hipass^{PLUS}$ Card. In order to use $Hipass^{PLUS}$Card in the prepaid payment system, LSAM, which is to store the value into $Hipass^{PLUS}$ Card is needed. LSAM is also responsible to store or retrieve the value from PPSAM. For the safety of Korea Highway electronic payment system, the functionality and security of LSAM should be faultless. This paper developed a test module including the test method, the test checklist, and the test procedure. The test module examines the functionality and security of loading the value from PPSAM to LSAM, retrieving the value from LSAM to PPSAM, and loading the value from LSAM to $Hipass^{PLUS}$ Card. The test module contains the method and the procedure to test the standard items by the test checklists. The test items and test checklists of LSAM was selected under the provision of the specification of Korea Highway Company and ISO standard. The test module evaluates the functionality, the security and the compatibility of LSAM. After the evaluation test of LSAM using the test module, LSAM satisfied the characteristics of the functionality, security, and compatibility.
Some previous researches suggested a transit trip destination inference method by constructing trip chains with incomplete(missing destination) smart card dataset obtained on the entry fare control systems. To explore the feasibility of the transit trip destination inference method, the transit trip chains are constructed from the pre-paid smart card tagging data collected in Busan on October 2014 weekdays by tracing the card IDs, tagging times(boarding, alighting, transfer), and the trip linking distances between two consecutive transit trips in a daily sequences. Assuming that most trips in the transit trip chains are linked successively, the individual transit trip destination zones are inferred as the consecutive linking trip's origin zones. Applying the model to the complete trips with observed OD reveals that about 82% of the inferred trip destinations are the same as those of the observed trip destinations and the inference error defined as the difference in distance between the inferred and observed alighting stops is minimized when the trip linking distance is less than or equal to 0.5km. When applying the model to the incomplete trips with missing destinations, the overall destination missing rate decreases from 71.40% to 21.74% and approximately 77% of the destination missing trips are the single transit trips for which the destinations can not be inferable. In addition, the model remarkably reduces the destination missing rate of the multiple incomplete transit trips from 69.56% to 6.27%. Spearman's rank correlation and Chi-squared goodness-of-fit tests showed that the ranks for transit trips of each zone are not significantly affected by the inferred trips, but the transit trip distributions only using small complete trips are significantly different from those using complete and inferred trips. Therefore, it is concluded that the model should be applicable to derive a realistic transit trip patterns in cities with the incomplete smart card data.

Smartcards are used as the basic data for utilizing the various transportation policies and evaluations, etc. and provided the transportation basic statistics index. However, the main problem of the smartcard data is that the most of users do not take the alighting tag at the stop, so there is a limit to the scope of use for the total O-D trip data because incomplete O-D traffic data of transportation card users. In this study, a decision tree of learning model is estimated for the alighting stop of smartcard users. The model estimation accuracy in range less than 2 stops interval was 89.7% on average. By eliminating the incompleteness alighting stop of smartcard data through this model, it is expected to be used as the basic data for various transportation analyses and evaluations.
This study proposes a policy for urban railway travel demand management system in order to decrease the load factor of the Seoul metro Circle line, particularly for the segment between Sadang and Samsung stations, through analyzing the transit smart card data. We propose mixed train operations of the existing Circle line and a line that goes toward Samsung station in order to transport passengers that have two distinct groups: those with the destination of Samsung station and those with destinations after Samsung station. The introduction of a mixed train operation that encourages passengers passing through Samsung station to take a Circle line train will decrease the congested load factor by 11.3% during the morning peak hours using the mixed train operation of the Circle and Samsung lines. This policy could be an effective method to decrease the load factor and improve the comfort of rail passengers without extra investment in the railway facilities.
