Smart windows are used as windows and doors to determine cooling and heating efficiency in the construction field. It's characteristics can increase the energy saving efficiency. In addition, the function of the smart window that can control the light transmittance transmitted from the external environment of the building to the building according to the needs of the user is attracting attention. In this study, a liquid crystal cell capable of controlling light transmittance of 297 × 210 ㎟ was fabricated by using a liquid crystal device as an optical shutter. Analysis of transmittance change according to driving voltage and driving stability according to thermal environment, We confirmed the applicability of building exterior materials as smart windows.
Smart structures are those structure that could adopt some behavior to prevent instability in their responses. The recognition of stability deterioration has been performed through rigid mathematical formulations in control theory and unpredicted results could not be addressed in control systems since they are able to only work under their predefined condition. On the other hand, incorporating all affecting parameters could result in high computational cost and delay time in the response of the systems. Artificial intelligence (AI) method has shown to be a promising methodology not only in the computer science by at everyday life and in engineering problems. In the present study, we exploit the capabilities of artificial intelligence method to obtain frequency response of a smart structure. In this regard, a comprehensive development of equations is presented using Hamilton' principle and first order shear deformation theory. The equations were solved by numerical methods and the results are used to train an artificial neural network (ANN). It is demonstrated that ANN modeling could provide accurate results in comparison to the numerical solutions and it take less time than numerical solution.
In this study, in order to efficiently perform smart city river management, we developed an integrated platform that connects flood analysis models on the web and provides information by converting input and output data into a database. In the integrated platform, a watershed analysis model, a river flow analysis model and an urban runoff analysis model were applied to perform flood analysis in smart city. This platform is able to obtain more reliable results by step-by-step approach to urban runoff that may occur in smart city through the applied model. In addition, since all analysis processes such as data collection, input data generation and result storage are performed on the web, anyone in an environment that can access the web without special equipment or tools can perform analysis and view results. Through this, it is expected that smart city managers can efficiently manage urban runoff and nearby rivers, and can also be used as educational materials for urban outflows.
The smart grid system has emerged to maximize energy efficiency through real-time information exchange between power providers and consumers by combining information technology and power supply systems. The authentication schemes using blockchain in a smart grid system have been proposed, which utilize an edge server's architecture to collect and store electric power-related information and process data between a central cloud server and smart grid-IoT devices. Although authentication schemes are being proposed to enhance security in the smart grid environment, many vulnerabilities are still reported. This paper presents a new mutual authentication scheme to guarantee users' privacy and anonymity in a smart grid based on edge computing using blockchain. In the proposed scheme, we use the smart contract for the key management's efficiency, such as updating and discarding key materials. Finally, we prove that the proposed scheme not only securely establishes a session key between the smart grid-IoT device of the user and the edge server but also guarantees anonymity.

This paper is to design smart based collaborative learning model for programming education of fifth graders of elementary school and applies it to a class and analyze its result. Designed learning model is composed of understanding of concept, realization, learning and sharing and it includes step by step learning materials and smart based collaborative learning activities. Scratch traffic light learning materials at leaning stage classify content to be checked in programming by colors and write to support programming internalization of learners. Provision of smart based collaborative learning activities that considered learning conditions of learners makes it possible for beginners to participate in and keep study actively. This study showed that there was statistically significant difference in learners' programming interest and those who achieved over 8 out of 10 points were 60.7% at three stage evaluations for achievement level that applied learning model which suggests that satisfactory achievement level is achieved.
The purpose of this study was to develop smart bags that combining fashion-specific trends and smart information technologies such as light-emitting diodes(LED) and optic fibers by grafting marquage techniques that have recently become popular as part of eco-fashion. We applied e-textiles by designing leather tote bags that could show off LED luminescence. A total of two tote bags, a white-colored peacock design and a black-colored paisley design, divided the LED's light-emitting method into two types, incremental lighting and random light-emission to suit each design, and the locations of the optical fibers were also reversed depending upon the design. The production of circuits for the LEDs and optical fibers was based on the design, and a flexible conductive fabric was laser-cut instead of wire line and attached to the circuit-line location. A separate connector was underwent three-dimensional(3D)-modeling and was connected to high-luminosity LEDs and optic fiber bundles. The optical fiber logo part expressed a subtle image using a white-colored LED, which did not offset the LED's sharp luminous effects, suggesting that using LEDs with fiber optics allowed for the expression of each in harmony without being heterogeneous. Overall, the LEDs and fiber optic fabric were well-harmonized in the fashion bag using marquage techniques, and there was no sense of it being a mechanical device. Also, the circuit part was made of conductive fabric, which is an e-textile product that feels the same as a thin, flexible fabric. The study confirmed that the bag was developed as a smart wearable product that could be used in everyday life.
A split spectrum processing (SSP) method is proposed to accurately determine the time-of-flight (ToF) of damage-scattered waves by comparing the instantaneous amplitude variation degree (IAVD) of a wave signal captured from a damage case with that from the benchmark. The fundamental symmetrical ($S_0$) mode in aluminum plates without and with a notch is assessed. The efficiency of the proposed SSP method and Hilbert transform in determining the ToF of damage-scattered $S_0$ mode is evaluated for damage identification when the wave signals are severely contaminated by noise. Broadband noise can overwhelm damage-scattered wave signals in the time domain, and the Hilbert transform is only competent for determining the ToF of damage-scattered $S_0$ mode in a noise-free condition. However, the calibrated IAVD of the captured wave signal is minimally affected by noise, and the proposed SSP method is capable of determining the ToF of damage-scattered $S_0$ mode accurately even though the captured wave signal is severely contaminated by broadband noise, leading to the successful identification of damage (within an error on the order of the damage size) using a triangulation algorithm.
This study investigated propagation characteristics of piezo-activated guided waves in an aluminium rectangular-section tube for the purpose of damage identification. Changes in propagating velocity and amplitude of the first wave packet in acquired signals were observed in the frequency range from 50 to 250 kHz. The difference in guided wave propagation between rectangular- and circular-section tubes was examined using finite element simulation, demonstrating a great challenge in interpretation of guided wave signals in rectangular-section tubes. An active sensor network, consisting of nine PZT elements bonded on different surfaces of the tube, was configured to collect the wave signals scattered from through-thickness holes of different diameters. It was found that guided waves were capable of propagating across the sharp tube curvatures while retaining sensitivity to damage, even that not located on the surfaces where actuators/sensors were attached. Signal correlation between the intact and damaged structures was evaluated with the assistance of a concept of digital damage fingerprints (DDFs). The probability of the presence of damage on the unfolded tube surface was thus obtained, by which means the position of damage was identified with good accuracy.

Over the last decade, the competition for space development has accelerated. The world's largest space agencies are aiming toward long-term lunar exploration and manned missions. For sustainable and safe lunar exploration, construction of infrastructures that include various habitats is essential. However, transporting construction materials from Earth for lunar base construction is extremely expensive. Thus, technologies for manufacturing construction materials using in-situ resources from the moon should be advanced. The sintering techniques have been actively studied using lunar soil. In this review, five sintering technologies, including radiation, solar, spark plasma, laser, and microwave sintering, for manufacturing construction materials using lunar soil are introduced, and future research is discussed.
