  • A Smart Building, one that uses automated processes to control its operations, refers in this study to one that uses both Internet of Things (IoT) devices and cloud services software. Cloud service providers (e.g. Amazon, Google, and Microsoft) have recently providedIoT cloud platform application services on IoT devices. According to Postscapes, there are now 152 IoT cloud platforms. Choosing one for a smart building is challenging. We selected Microsoft Azure IoT Hub and Amazon's AWS (Amazon Web Services) IoT. The two platforms were evaluated and selected from a smart building perspective. Each prototype was evaluated on two different IoTplatforms, assuming a typical smart building scenario. The selection was based on information and experience gained from developing the prototype system using the IoT cloud platform. The assessment made in this evaluation may be used to select an IoTcloud platform for smart buildings in the future.

  • The secure access the lighting, Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), fire safety, and security control boxes of building facilities is the primary objective of future smart buildings. This paper proposes an authorized user access to the electrical, lighting, fire safety, and security control boxes in the smart building, by using color grid coded optical camera communication (OCC) with face recognition Technologies. The existing CCTV subsystem can be used as the face recognition security subsystem for the proposed approach. At the same time a smart device attached camera can used as an OCC receiver of color grid code for user access authentication data sent by the control boxes to proceed authorization. This proposed approach allows increasing an authorization control reliability and highly secured authentication on accessing building facility infrastructure. The result of color grid code sequence received by the unauthorized person and his face identification allows getting good results in security and gaining effectiveness of accessing building facility infrastructure. The proposed concept uses the encoded user access authentication information through control box monitor and the smart device application which detect and decode the color grid coded informations combinations and then send user through the smart building network to building management system for authentication verification in combination with the facial features that gives a high protection level. The proposed concept is implemented on testbed model and experiment results verified for the secured user authentication in real-time.

  • With the recent advances in smart grid technologies and the increasing dissemination of smart meters, the power usage of each time unit can be detected in modern smart building environments. Thus, the utility company can adopt different price of electricity at each time slot considering the peak time. Korea government also announces the smart-grid roadmap that includes a law for realtime price of electricity. In this paper, we propose an efficient power scheduling scheme for smart buildings that adopt smart meters and real-time pricing of electricity. Our scheme dynamically changes the power mode of each consumer device according to the change of power rates. Specifically, we analyze the electricity demands and prices at each time, and then perform real-time power scheduling of consumer devices based on collaboration of each device. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the electricity charge of a smart building by up to 36.4%.

  • With the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) services, the interest of smart building management system is rapidly increased. However, existing smart building management system has some limitations such as single point of failure, scalability, processing delay by using the centralized service platform server. To overcome these limitations, in this paper, the distributed server based smart building management scheme is proposed. In the proposed scheme, it is possible to provide fast and efficient IoT services, regardless of the scale of smart building, by using the distributed server of each floor. From the numerical analysis, it is shown that the proposed scheme provides better performance than the existing centralized scheme in terms of stability of database and service processing delay.

  • Smart windows are used as windows and doors to determine the cooling and heating efficiency of a building. They have characteristics that can increase the energy efficiency of a building, which leads to energy savings. In addition, smart windows can control the amount of light transmitted from the external environment of a building to the interior of a building according to the needs of the user. In this study, a 297×210 ㎟ liquid crystal cell capable of controlling light transmittance was fabricated using a liquid crystal device as an optical shutter. The effect of driving voltage on the transmittance and the effect of the thermal environment on the driving stability were analyzed. We confirmed the applicability of using smart windows as exterior building materials.

  • In this paper, a development of agent-based IEDs(Intelligent electronic devices) for integration control of building microgrid in smart green building are proposed. To manage and control this complex energy system of smart green buildings, multi-agent system based networks is needed. Thus, several IEDs for utilizing multi-agent system are developed and modified for the their verification of performance as agent modules functions in the integrated experimental equipment. The good performance of these IED agents are verified from experimental results obtained from seamless bi-directional communication by SOAP/XML protocol between PC agent and IED agent.

  • In recent years, UNWTO and academics have called for the development of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism to promote equal human rights and social inclusion. Prior studies have also revealed the potential and value of smart technologies in reducing, if not removing, barriers to people with access requirements during travel and in their everyday lives. However, a guiding framework of how smart technologies assist in building an accessible destination is still absent, thereby hindering the progress of building accessible tourism. This paper aims to fill this knowledge gap. A conceptual model of smart accessible destination (SAD) was proposed drawing from the intersection of accessible tourism and smart tourism. With the guidance of this conceptual model, tourism destinations and stakeholders can recognize and utilize the synergies of accessible and smart tourism to enhance the social inclusion, competitiveness, and sustainability of a destination.

  • The structural work is the main process of building construction which influence on the time, cost, safety and quality. The form work is one of the main process which has from 20 to 30 percentage of structural work. Especially the form work for beams is complex and need more manpower compared with form work for column or slab. When the existing forms such as plywood form, steel framed wooden form and aluminum form, is used for form work of beam, it would result in the cost overrun caused by needs of lots of manpower and resources. Therefore, the aim of this study is analysis of the requirement for development of SMART beam form. The result of this study shall be used for the development of SMART form work system.

  • The slowdown of the global economic market due to the pandemic is causing the global construction market to stagnate, and the use of smart construction technology is drawing attention as one of the main alternatives to overcome this problem. In fact, a number of previous studies have been published that smart construction technologies such as building information modeling and drones can contribute to project performance improvement, such as productivity improvement and cost reduction. However, previous studies focus on the application direction and technical effectiveness of smart construction technology, so the analysis in terms of the contribution that the application of the technology has to the project performance is insufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to focus on the effectiveness aspect of the application of smart construction technology on the project performance. The results of this study are expected to be able to be used as basic data for establishing policies related to the activation of smart construction technology promoted by the government and setting the direction for the use of smart construction technology by stakeholders.
