The parameters which can affect the performance of small thruster were verified by experiments. The loss of catalyst through the port for pressure sensor was prevented by chamber wall mesh. There was no performance decrease due to chamber wall mesh, and stable supply of propellant is the key of stability of the thruster. However, sudden pressure drop in the chamber can decrease the performance instantly. Therefore, the sudden pressure drop should be eliminated as much as possible. The cross type distributor showed more stable performance than circular type, and structural strength is also stronger.

Plasma processing is an essential process for pattern etching and thin film deposition in nanoscale semiconductor device fabrication. It is necessary to maintain plasma chamber in steady-state in production. In this study, we determined plasma chamber state with residual gas analysis with self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy. Residual gas monitoring of fluorocarbon plasma etching chamber was performed with self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy (SPOES) and various chemical elements was identified with a SPOES system which is composed of small inductive coupled plasma chamber for glow discharge and optical emission spectroscopy monitoring system for measuring optical emission. This work demonstrates that chamber state can be monitored with SPOES and this technique can potentially help maintenance in production lines.

The walls of modern train cars are required to have higher transmission loss since modern train have had high speed and light weight. The method based on Reverberation Chamber like KS F 2808 could be used to measure transmission loss. However, this method has difficulty in that constrained Standard of it requires extremely large facilities. Recently, the method based on Scale Reverberation Chamber is used as an alternative to Reverberation Chamber. The method of Scale Reverberation Chamber is known to be small and economical but it provides standing wave that directly influences measurement error. Therefore, this research is focus on predicting standing waves based on method of FFM and reducing measurement error by changing shape of chamber.

A modified spray impingement model has been developed, which is assessed against experiments for the impinging sprays on the small combustion chamber at various gas pressures. To investigate spray behaviors in the diesel combustion chamber, a transparent constant-volume chamber is made which is similar to the combustion chamber of the real diesel engine. The chamber is pressurized by N2 gas from 0 bar to 20 bar to find the effects of ambient pressures. The behaviors of spray injected into this chamber and dispersed after impingement on the cylinder wall is measured two-dimensionally using laser sheet Mie scattering method. The physical submodels have been properly modified to improve the prediction capability of original KIVA code to describe the spray behaviors after impingement on the curved cylinder wall. In terms of spray dynamics and evolution. numerical results give qualitatively good agreements with experimental data.
This study was carried out to investigate the usability of the used frying oil, which was extracted from soybean, as one of the alternative fuel of a small diesel engine. For the experiment, NO. 2 diesel oil [D], used frying oil [UF], and their volumetric blends were applied and analysis of the properties and compositions of the experimental fuels were conducted. A four cycle diesel engine with single cylinder, water cooling system, maximum output 8.1 ㎾/2,200 rpm was selected and a direct injection chamber and a precombustion chamber were attached alternately. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Engine power (BHP) were increased from 4.13~4.27㎾ to 9.08~9.15㎾ for diesel oil, from 4.05~4.19㎾ to 8.44~8.92㎾ for UF, and from 4.01~4.48㎾ to 8.69~9.16㎾ for blend fuel, as the engine speed increased from 1,000 rpm to 2,200 rpm. The BHP in case of the direct combustion chamber were fluctuated higher than those of the pre-combustion chamber. 2. With the engine speed increased, torque of the engine were increased from 39.50~40.80 N.m to 42.89 N.m, then decreased to 39.44~39.77 N.m for diesel oil, and increased from 38.73~40.04 N.m to 40.12~40.82 N.m then decreased as 36.53~38.76 N.m for UF. Torque of the blend fuels were increased from 38.75~41.76 N.m to 40.47~42.89 N.m then decreased to 37.73~39.78 N.m. There is no significant difference of torque between the type of combustion chambers. 3. The specific fuel consumption of the UF was increased about 20 percent depending on the engine speed variations. And in case of direct injection chamber, about 12 percent lower fuel consumption was observed than that of precombustion chamber. 4. NOx emission of the UF was higher than that of diesel oil at above 1,800rpm of the engine speed. In case of the direct injection chamber, NOx emission was revealed higher about 59 percent than that of the precombustion chamber, depending on the range of the engine speeds. 5. Smoke emission was decreased in case of UF compared with diesel oil on direct injection chamber. When using precombustion chamber smoke emission was a little higher than that of the direct injection chamber were showed at the engine speed range. 6. At all the engine speed range, exhaust gas temperatures were decreased 2~3$^{\circ}C$ for UF used engine compared with those of the diesel oil. The exhaust gas temperature of the direct injection chamber was higher than that of the precombustion chamber by 72$^{\circ}C$. 7. Unburnt materials remained in the cylinder in case of the pre-combustion chamber was smaller and softer than that of the direct combustion chamber. 8. The feasibility of the blend fuel B-1 and B-2 were verified as a direct combustion chamber was attached to the diesel engine, with respect to the power performance of the engine.

This paper presents computer simulation results for developing new type of SF$_{6}$ Circuit Breaker in terms of cold gas flow after small current interruption. This cold gas flows down a nozzle into the chamber of a circuit breaker. There are many difficult problems in analyzing the gas flow due to complex geometry, moving boundary, shock wave and so on. When predicting the dielectric capability of a gas circuit breaker after interruption, the gas pressure and density distributions due to the cold gas must be considered in addition to the electrical field imposed across the gas. A self-coded computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program is used for the simulation of cold gas flow in order to evaluate the electrical field characteristic across open contacts and transient characteristics of insulations after small current interruption.

The intermediate mixing chamber is one of various methods for improving the regression rate and combustion efficiency of the hybrid rocket. The mixing chamber with its non-combustible material makes the propulsion performance increase, but it leads to a low fuel-loading density in the combustion chamber; therefore, this performance-related trade-off between the mixing chamber and the low fuel-loading density was studied. In this study, the trade-off was conducted by comparing the intermediate-mixing-chamber case with a w/o-mixing-chamber case. The small hybrid-sounding rocket is designed with internal ballistics for comparing the rocket length to the weight. In addition, an external ballistic analysis was conducted for comparing the performances of the w/- and w/o-mixing-chamber cases. As a result, the intermediate-mixing-chamber case shows that the length and the weight were decreased to 12 % and 8 %, respectively; furthermore, when compared with the normal cases, the estimated altitude result of the w/-mixing-chamber case was increased to approximately 75 m.
Combustion chamber systems using spray impinged on walls have been studied for improving combustion characteristics in high speed direct injection diesel engines. The fuel spray injected in a small combustion chamber may be easily impinged and deposited on the wall. The fuel deposit has been considered as the cause for unburned emission due to difficulty of fuel-air mixing. In this paper w-shaped combustion chamber which has four raised pips on the side wall is introduced and discussed by comparing with conventional chamber with no pips. The computer code employing new spray-wall interaction model in general non-orthogonal grids is used in here. The model is applied into the new chamber shape with raised pips. In this chamber system four-hole nozzle is used, and the sprays injected from the each hole impact on lands raised from the chamber wall surface. After impacting, the sprays break up into much smaller drops and distribute over all the chamber space, instead of distributing just near the wall surface in conventional omega-shape. The results showed the potential of the w-shaped chamber employing pips for dispersing droplets so as tn avoid the fuel deposit regions.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of a "stealth chamber" as a novel reference chamber for measuring percentage depth dose (PDD) and profile of 6, 8 and 10 MV photon energies. The PDD curves and dose profiles with fields ranging from $3{\times}3$ to $25{\times}25cm^2$ were acquired from measurements by using the stealth chamber and CC 13 chamber as reference chamber. All measurements were performed with Varian VitalBeam linear accelerator. In order to assess the performance of stealth chamber, PDD curves and profiles measured with stealth chamber were compared with measurement data using CC13 chamber. For PPDs measured with both chambers, the dosimetric parameters such as $d_{max}$ (depth of maximum dose), $D_{50}$ (PDD at 50 mm depth), and $D_{100}$ (PDD at 100 mm depth) were analyzed. Moreover, root mean square error (RMSE) values for profiles at $d_{max}$ and 100 mm depth were evaluated. The measured PDDs and profiles between the stealth chamber and CC13 chamber as reference detector had almost comparable. For PDDs, the evaluated dosimetric parameters were observed small difference (<1%) for all energies and field sizes, except for $d_{max}$ less than 2 mm. In addition, the difference of RMSEs for profiles at $d_{max}$ and 100 mm depth was similar for both chambers. This study confirmed that the use of stealth chamber for measuring commission beam data is a feasible as reference chamber for fields ranging from $3{\times}3$ to $20{\times}20cm^2$. Furthermore, it has an advantage with respect to measurement of the small fields (less than $3{\times}3cm^2$ field) although not performed in this study.
Diesel and gasoline engines will be used as main power system of automobiles. Recently, engine downsizing is widely applied to both gasoline and diesel engines in order to improve fuel economy and exhaust emissions. Engine downsizing means small engine combustion chamber with higher combustion pressure. Therefore, spray and combustion process should be investigated under these high pressure and temperature conditions. In this study, constant volume combustion chamber which enables easy optical access from six directions was developed. Combustion chamber was designed to resist maximum pressure of 15 MPa and maximum temperature of 2,000 K. Combustible pre-mixed mixture was introduced into combustion chamber and ignited by spark plugs. High pressure and temperature were implemented by combustion of pre-mixed mixture. Three initial conditions of different pressure and density were tested. High repeatability of combustion process was implemented which was proven by low standard deviation of combustion pressure.
