  • This paper proposed a method to reduce torque ripple of double-layer axial flux permanent magnet motor. Torque is generated by interacting between current of stator winding and airgap flux. In the case of slotless axial flux permanent magnet motor, only commutation torque component is significant. Hence, cogging and reluctance torque will not be considered. For this propose, we were supplied differential phase current in each winding and shifted rotor magnet. According to shifted rotor magnet and flux and phase of current were shifted, phase of developed torque in each side is difference. As a result, we could reduce the total torque ripple in motor and obtain minimum torque ripple in the case of 7.5 degree shifting angle between two rotors.

  • In this paper, a new air bearing stage with magnetic preload and a linear motor has been developed for the small precision machine systems. The new air bearing stage is unique in the sense that permanent magnets attached bottom of the iron core of table are used not only for preloading air bearings in vertical direction but also for generating thrust force by current of the coil at base. The characteristics of air bearings using porous pads were analyzed with numerical method, and the magnetic circuit model was derived for linear motor for calculating required preload force and thrust force. A prototype of single axis miniature stage with size of $120(W){\times}120(L){\times}50(H)\;mm^3$ was designed and fabricated and examined its performances, vertical stiffness, load capacity, thrust force and positioning resolution.

  • Wave power generation as an environmentally -friendly energy has received the attention. In this paper, therefore, the tubular type Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Generator (PMLSG) is proposed for wave power generation. The characteristics of tubular type PMLSG are investigated by analysis using a Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Moreover, the operating performance of generator under no-load and load with variable resistance is examined. And Taguchi method is applied for considering tolerance in manufacture. The results of FEA show that proposed tubular type PMLSG is a useful solution for small-scale wave power generation.

  • For the design of a permanent magnet linear synchronous machine with slotless stator structure, this paper addresses a three-dimensional (3D) analytical approach for consideration of end effects. In contrast, analytical method can derive solutions in substantially shorter times with high reliability. Therefore, we derive accurate analytical solutions to dramatically reduce the time need for analysis. In addition, we performed characteristic analysis of permanent magnet linear synchronous machine (PMSLM) according to PM overhang length.

  • The permanent magnet BLDC motors are increasingly being used in high performance applications due to the high torque density and simplicity in their control. In this paper, the control system of the BLDC motor is developed which can be used for the micro motor handpiece, and position sensorless control is realized using back EMF measurement scheme, The validity and practical applications of the developed slotless BLDC motor and drive system are verified through the experimental results.

  • This paper presents a general analytical method for predicting the magnetic fields of different Halbach magnet arrays with or without back iron mounted on slotless permanent magnet (PM) linear machines. By using Fourier decomposition, the magnetization components of four typical Halbach magnet arrays are determined. By applying special synthetic boundary conditions on the PM surfaces, the expressions of their magnetic field distributions are derived based on the magnetic scalar potential (MSP), which are simpler than those based on the magnetic vector potential (MVP). The correctness of the method is validated by finite element analysis. The harmonics of airgap flux density waveforms of these Halbach magnet arrays with or without back iron are also compared and optimized.

  • This paper treated the design and characteristics of high speed motor/generator with ring wound stator for the flywheel energy storage system. The most important advantages of the ring-wound motor is the slotless stator, i.e. no cogging torque, no space harmonic of air-gap flux density, etc. Because of these advantages, ring wound type motor is suitable to operate at the high speed.

  • A brushless and slotless DC linear motor(LDM)employing a movable set of neodymium-iron-boron type of magnets has high performances in advantages of large thrust per weights and accurate position control. But the Moving Magnet LDM produces thrust ripples owing to mainly end-effects, shape and magnetization of permanent magnets and so on. This paper represents the improvements of thrust ripples using the finite elements methods and phase control topology.

  • High speed brushless permanent magnet (PM) machines are a key technology for electric drives and motion control systems for many application, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density small size and low weight. Proposed slotless PM machine is constructed without stator winding slots. Its stator magnetic material is in the form of a ring and winding have a toroidal configuration and its rotor consists of a 4-pole Halbach array or radially magnetized PM rotor.

  • This paper deals with the optimal design of a slotless type of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM). Response surface methodology, one of the optimization methods, is used to consider multiple response of the PMLSM. That is, it is applied to obtain more average thrust and less thrust ripple than prototype PMLSM. To analyze quickly, characteristic analysis of the PMLSM is performed by space harmonic method and final results of optimized PMLSM are compare with those of prototype PMLSM through finite element analysis.
