In natural river, river-bed change is greatly influenced by the various factors such as river improvement, change of watershed land use, construction of dam and reservoir, gravel mining, and so on. The knowledge about river-bed change in the river is essential in the river modification, wetlands plan, and maintaining stable alluvial rivers. In this study, river-bed change in the future was predicted by investigating river channel characteristics which play dominant role in the formation of channel and based on the numerical model through river survey and the grain size analysis. The Proposed investigation and model was applied to the Geum river and the Miho stream which have been experienced river degradation due to river aggregate dredging and now seams to be stable. The result of potential river-bed change which was estimated by investigating channel characteristic including slope of channel, friction velocity, and so on is similar to that which was estimated based on the numerical model. It was found that the Geum river and the Miho stream will be stable. In the future, if considering the characteristics of river channel which is estimated by the river-bed scour, sediment, and so on, it is possible that river improvement and wetland restoration plan are established stably and naturally.
One-dimensional numerical models using finite difference methods for unsteady sediment transport on alluvial river channel are developed. The Preissmann implicit scheme and the Lax-Wendroff two-step explicit scheme with the Method of Characteristics for water motion and a forward time centered space explicit scheme for sediment motion are developed to simulate the sediment transport rate and the variation of channel bed level. The program correctness of each model is successfully verified using volume conservation tests. The sensitivity studies show that higher peak stage level, steeper channel slope and longer flooding duration produce more channel bed erosion. and median grain size, $D_{50}=0.4mm$ give maximum volume loss in this study. Finally, the numerical models are found to produce reasonable results from the various sensitivity tests which reveal that the numerical models have properly responded to the changes of each model parameter.

Reduction in the occurrence of weed and erosion of slope soil by living mulch barley simultaneously sown with soybean were investigated at the Upland Experimental Field in Suwon City in 2013 and 2014. The aboveground dry matter of 200-300, 100-200 kg/10a of living mulch barley was obtained at 40 and 60 after sowing, respectively. The occurrence of weeds was significantly reduced by barley living mulch. The early growth of soybean was reduced significantly because of the competition with barley living mulch, but the late growth of soybean after natural drying of barley living mulch was recovered considerably. The soybean grain yield with barley living mulch was similar to that of the normal soybean cultivation, showing no significant difference between no mulch and living mulch treatments. With respect to soil erosion on the slope soil, the amount of run-off water decreased by 20-50% and the amount of soil loss decreased by 70-90% by barley living mulch. The reduction in soil erosion by the use of plastic film + barley living mulch was similar to that of only barley living mulch. The barley living mulch in soybean production can be a promising cultivation technique as it reduces weed occurrence and soil erosion without grain yield reduction.
To understand human activity in the past, the information about past environmental change including geomorphological and climatic conditions is essential and this can be traced by using age dating and geochemical analysis of sediments from the prehistoric sites. The sedimentary sequence of Seokgwan-dong Paleolithic Site located in Seoul was 5m long unconsolidated sediments and consists of lower part bedrock weathering sediments, slope deposits and upper-part fluvial deposits. In this study, upper part sediments were used to reconstruct past environmental change through age dating and various physical and chemical analyses including grain size, magnetic susceptibility and mineral and elements. The fluvial sediments can be divided into 4 units including three organic layers. Grain size analysis results showed that the sediments were very poorly sorted with fining upward features. Magnetic susceptibility was relatively high in the organic layers, indicating environmental changes causing mineral composition change at that times. The mineral and major element composition are similar to Jurassic biotite granite which mainly consists of quartz, K-feldspar, biotite and muscovite. The radiocarbon age of $14,240{\pm}80yr$ BP was obtained from the lower most organic layer of Unit III(O), suggesting that the fluvial sediments formed at least from the early stage of deglacial period after the end of Last Glacial Maximum. Subsequent wet and warm climates and resultant fluvial process including slope sedimentation during the Holocene may have been responsible for the sedimentary sequence in Seokgwan-dong paleolithic site and surrounding area. The observed organic layers suggests frequent wetland occurrence combined with natural levee changes in this area.
Jurassic granite from Geochang was analysed with respect to the characteristics of the rock cleavage. The comprehensive evaluation for rock cleavages was performed through the combination of the 16 parameters derived from the enlarged photomicrographs of the thin section and the spacing-cumulative frequency diagrams. The results of analysis for the representative values of these spacing parameters with respect to the rock cleavage are summarized as follows. First, the above parameters can be classified into group I (spacing frequency (N), total spacing ($1m{\geq}$), constant (a), exponent (${\lambda}$), slope of exponential straight line (${\theta}$), length of line (oa') and trigonometric ratios ($sin{\theta}$, $tan{\theta}$) and group II (mean spacing (Sm), difference value between mean spacing and median spacing (Sm-Sme), density (${\rho}$), lengths of lines (oa and aa'), area of a right-angled triangle (${\Delta}oaa^{\prime}$) and trigonometric ratio($cos{\theta}$). The values of the 8 parameters belonging to group I show an order of H(hardway, H1+H2)

In order to investigate the effect of the water content and the accelerated curing on the strength of the soil-cement mixtures, laboratory test of soil cement mixtures was performed at five levels of water content, four levels of accelerated curing temperatures, three levels of normal curing periods, and six levels of accelerated curing time. Also this study was carried out to investigate the effect of grain size distribution of 21 types of soils on the strength of soil-cement mixtures at four levels of cement content and three levels of curing time. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Optimum moisture content increased with increase of the cement content, but maximum dry density was changed ununiformly with cement content. Water content corresponding to the maximum strength was a little higher than the optimum moisture content along the increase of cement content. 2. In molding the specimens with the optimum moisture content, the maximum strength appeared at the wet side of the optimum moisture content. 3. According to increase of curing temperature as 30, 40, 50, and 60$^{\circ}C$, unconiiend compressive strength of soil-cement mixtures increased, the rate of increase at the early curing period was large, and approximately 120 hours was suifficient to harden soil-cement mixtures completely. 4. The strength of soil-cement mixtures at the curing temperature of 10$^{\circ}C$ decreased at the rate of 30 to 50 percent than at the curing temperature of 20$^{\circ}C$, and the strength of soil-cement mixtures at the curing temperature of 0$^{\circ}C$ increased a little with increase of curing time. 5. Although the strength of soil-cement mixtures seemed to be a little affected by the temperature difference between day time and night, it was recommended that reasonable working period was the duration from July to August of which average maximum temperature of Korea was approximately 30$^{\circ}C$. 6. Accelerated curing time corresponding to the normal curing time of 28-day was shorten with increase of curing temperature, also it was a little affected by the cement. Accelerated curing time that the strength of soil-cement mixtures for the cement of 9 percent and the curing temperature of 60was shorten with increase of curing temperature, also it was a little affected by the cement. Accelerated curing time that the strength of soil-cement mix- tures for the cement of 9 percent and the curing temperature of 60$^{\circ}C$ was 45 hours at the KY sample, 50 hours at the MH, 40 hours at the SS, and 34 hours at the JJ respectively. 7. Accelerated curing time was depended upon the grain size distribution of soil, it decreased with increase the percent passing of No. 200 sieve. 8. Relationship between the normal curing times and the accelerated curing times showed that there was a linear relationship between them, its slope decreased with increase of curing temperature. 9. The most reasonable soil of the soil-cement mixtures was the sandy loam which was a well graded soil. Assuming the base of road requiring 7-day strength of 21 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ being used, the soil-cement mixtures could be obtained with adding 6 percent of cement in such a sails S-7, S-8, S-9, S-10, S-11, S-12, S-13. 10. The regression equation between the 28-day and the 7-day strength was obtained as follow; q28=1.12q7,+6.5(r=0.96).
The characteristics of the microcrack lengths(①), microcrack spacings(②) and Brazilian tensile strengths(③) related to the six directions of rock cleavages(H2~R1) in Geochang granite were analyzed. First, the 18 cumulative graphs for the above three major factors representing unique characteristics of the rock cleavages were made. Through the general chart for these graphs classified into three planes and three rock cleavages, the 28 parameters on the length, spacing and Brazilian tensile strength have been determined. The results of correlation analysis among these parameters are summarized as follows. Second, the above parameters were classified into six groups(I~VI) according to the sorting order on the magnitude of parameter values among three rock cleavages and three planes. The values of parameters belonging to group I and II are in order of R(rift) < G(grain) < H(hardway) and H < G < R. The values of the 8 parameters on the length of line(os2, 𝚫s, 𝚫L and oSmean), the exponent(λLmean and λSmean), the slope(amean) and the anisotropy coefficient (Anmean) are in order of R < G < H and H'(hardway plane) < G'(grain plane) < R'(rift plane). Third, the noticeable differences in distribution patterns among the six types of charts for three planes and three rock cleavages are as follows. From the chart for three planes, the values of 𝚫L, 𝚫s and 𝚫σt, corresponding to the distance between two points where the two fitting lines meet on the X-axis, increase in the order of R' < H' < G'. In particular, the two graphs of R2 and G2 related to the length and Brazilian tensile strength are almost parallel to each other and show the distribution characteristics of hardway plane. Among the graphs related to the Brazilian tensile strength, the overall shape for hardway plane is similar to that for grain. From the chart for three rock cleavages, the slopes of the graphs related to the length increase in the order of R < G < H, while those of the graphs related to the spacing and Brazilian tensile strength decrease in the order of R < G < H. Lastly, the characteristics of variation among the six rock cleavages, the three planes and the three rock cleavages were visualized through the correlation chart among the above parameters from this study.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of phenomenon(hereinafter called mass-movement) of movement of inorganic material originated from hillslope by denudation of hillslope surrounding the watershed during Holocen period in the Chaamgol watershed(hereinafter called study watershed) uppermost stream of Maegokcheon Cheonan-si Chungnam. To do this, for the object of allivium distributed in valley bottom of study watershed, facies analysis, radiocarbon dating and grain size analysis were conducted and geomorphological analysis on study watershed conducted together. The result is like the following. It was confirmed that over around 9,100yrBP~to recent due to a few times of mass-movement occurred in time scale of 102~103 years, a large quantity of inorganic material is mixed in organic material layer originated from wetland formed in valley bottom of study watershed or exists between organic material layers. And it was found that in study watershed, mass-movement occurred in instable period of hillslope after the Early Holocen existed at least 8 times (M1 period~M8 period) and wetland environment formed in the stable period of hill slope existed total 4 times (W1 period~W4 period). This analysis result will be used in the future as basic material in research of Holocen climate change of Maegokcheon watershed and in restoration of denudation process of hillslope following this.

Optimum moisture content of about 60% of cooked rice was obtained by soaking the fully steamed rice with 35% moisture conture content in ambient water temperature$(24^{\circ}C)$ for one hour. Two different levels of package vacuum was used in packing this cooked rice in retort pouch, and the effect of the levels of package vacuum on the texture of the cooked rice in the pouch during thermal process was investigated: Higher sterilization value (Fo value) and steeper slope (fh value) on the heating curve of the thermal process was obtained with the higher package vacuum product. The j value of the heating curves of cooked rice packed in retort pouch was ranged between 0.80 and 1.18 without respect to the levels of the package vacuum and the process temperature. Although in respective of the ratio of the stickiness to the hardness (-H/H) the product with higher package vacuum showed better result, the shape of most of the rice grain in the vacuum vacuum pouch was deformed and Jumped mass of inferior quality than the one in the lower vacuum package.
The major objective of this study was to develop further understanding of 3D nearshore hydrodynamics under a variety of wave and tidal forcing conditions. The main tool used was a comprehensive 3D numerical model - combining the flow module of Delft3D with the WAVE solver of XBeach - of nearshore hydro- and morphodynamics that can simulate flow, sediment transport, and morphological evolution. Surf-swash zone hydrodynamics were modeled using the 3D Navier-Stokes equations, combined with various turbulence models (${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, ${\kappa}-L$, ATM and H-LES). Sediment transport and resulting foreshore profile changes were approximated using different sediment transport relations that consider both bed- and suspended-load transport of non-cohesive sediments. The numerical set-up was tested against field data, with good agreement found. Different numerical experiments under a range of bed characteristics and incident wave and tidal conditions were run to test the model's capability to reproduce 3D flow, wave propagation, sediment transport and morphodynamics in the nearshore at the field scale. The results were interpreted according to existing understanding of surf and swash zone processes. Our numerical experiments confirm that the angle between the crest line of the approaching wave and the shoreline defines the direction and strength of the longshore current, while the longshore current velocity varies across the nearshore zone. The model simulates the undertow, hydraulic cell and rip-current patterns generated by radiation stresses and longshore variability in wave heights. Numerical results show that a non-uniform seabed is crucial for generation of rip currents in the nearshore (when bed slope is uniform, rips are not generated). Increasing the wave height increases the peaks of eddy viscosity and TKE (turbulent kinetic energy), while increasing the tidal amplitude reduces these peaks. Wave and tide interaction has most striking effects on the foreshore profile with the formation of the intertidal bar. High values of eddy viscosity, TKE and wave set-up are spread offshore for coarser grain sizes. Beach profile steepness modifies the nearshore circulation pattern, significantly enhancing the vertical component of the flow. The local recirculation within the longshore current in the inshore region causes a transient offshore shift and strengthening of the longshore current. Overall, the analysis shows that, with reasonable hypotheses, it is possible to simulate the nearshore hydrodynamics subjected to oceanic forcing, consistent with existing understanding of this area. Part II of this work presents 3D nearshore morphodynamics induced by the tides and waves.
