탄화규소 분말의 주입성형 및 소결체의 특성 (Preparation and Properties of Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide by Slip Casting Method)

  • Among various forming techniques for ceramics, we have studied the slip casting method for the binary system of SiC and carbon. The stability of the slip of silicon carbide and carbon were investigated by measurements of zeta potential, viscosity, sedimentation height, and also studied as functions of PH and amounts of dispersants. A preform of SiC and C was prepared by slip casting and heat treatment at 400∼600$^{\circ}C$ under N2 gas. The preform was reacted with Si metal at 1550$^{\circ}C$, 10-1 mmHg to give rise a reaction bonded SiC with a density of 3.0g/㎤ and a bending strength of 580 MPa.

점토계 고형화소지의 임계함수율과 기공구조 (Critical Moisture and Pore Structure of Clay Based Consolidated Body)

  • There have been many studies on the preparation of slip, forming and drying in the slip casting process. However, is has not been yet on the rheological properties of consolidated body which largely affect on the workability. It was investugated that the rheological properties of the consolidated bodies formed by slip casting in the form of cakes from well dispersed(slip C) and weakly agglomerated slip(slip B) in the clay and clay-fly ash systems. The state of dispersion of slip was found to affected the critical moisture content which was largely affected by the pore and moisture distribution of the consolidated body. The cake C show lower critical moisture content than cake B in the clay system. However, the cake B gives lower critical moisture content than cake C in the clay-fly ash system.

성형미세구조가 질화알루미늄의 소결 및 물성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Green Microstructure on the Sintering and Properties of Aluminum Nitride)

  • In order to investigate the effect o green microstructure on the sintering behavior and properties of AlN ceramics, samples were prepared by slip casting and dry pressing. The slip cast samples had high green density, fine pore size and narrow pore size distribution. They showed much higher sinterability and more homogeneous sintered microstructure compared to the dry pressed samples. Both increased thermal conductivity and flexural strength for samples prepared by slip casting could be attributed to the improved microstructural homogeneity with isolated second phase(s).

  • 고체 산화물 전해질로 사용되고 있는 초 이온 전도체인 $K^+-{\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$의 고온 상관계와 소결성 분석을 위하여 $K_2O-LiO_2-Al_2O_3$ 삼성분계로부터 고상반응을 통하여 순수한 $K^+-{\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ 분말을 합성한 후 slip casting방법과 냉간정수압성형에 의하여 tube와 disk형을 각각 제작하였다. Slip casting은 40 wt%의 고체함량을 가지는 슬러리를 사용해 알루미나 몰드에서 이루어졌고 냉간정수압성형은 20 MPa의 압력하에서 수행되었다. 성형체들은 $1600^{\circ}C$, $1700^{\circ}C$, $1750^{\circ}C$에서 각각 소결하여 성형방법에 따른 상관계와 소결밀도를 조사하였다. 냉간정수압성형에 의한 시편이 $1700^{\circ}C$까지 ${\beta}"-Al_2O_3$의 상분율이 월등히 높은 반면, 소결밀도에 있어서는 slip casting방법의 경우가 다소 높았다. 소결 시 상대밀도는 $1750^{\circ}C$에서 1 h 경과 후, 두 경우 모두 약 83%를 나타내었다. 90 min 이상 소결하였을 때는 입자의 과대성장과 기공으로 인해 오히려 밀도가 낮아졌다.

Optimization of Barium Titanate Slip for Tape Casting Using Design of Experiments

  • A full-factorial design of experiments with three input factors and two levels for each factor including center points was utilized for the preparation and characterization of twelve types of $BaTiO_3$ slips for tape casting. Ceramic powders with different particle sizes, different milling methods such as high energy milling and conventional ball milling, and two types of dispersant with different polymeric species were chosen as input factors in order to investigate their effects on slip and on green tape properties. Tape casting, a small rectangular-shaped K-square preparation, characterization and quantitative data analysis using statistical software were followed. Ceramic powder was the most significant among three input factors for the output responses of slip viscosity and green tape density, showing more favorable results with large particles than with very fine ones. In addition, high energy milling for only 30 min was more efficient than 24h of conventional ball milling in terms of powder dispersion and milling. The optimum condition based on the experimental results was a slip exposed to high energy milling with large ceramic particles along with a methylethyl acetate dispersant.

알루미나몰드를 사용한 슬립캐스팅법에 의한 3Y-TZP/SUS316계 경사기능재료의 제조 (Fabrication of 3Y-TZP/SUS316 Functionally Graded Material by Slip Casting Method Using Alumina Mold)

  • 3Y TZP/SUS316계 경사기능재료를 슬립캐스팅법을 이용하여 제조하였다. 슬립캐스팅 공정에서 석고몰드를 대체하기 위해 알루미나몰드를 제조하였고, 3Y-TZP/SUS316 2상 슬러리의 최적 분산조건을 ESA, 점도계, 침전거동의 관찰 등을 통해 결정하였으며, 석고몰드와 알루미나몰드로 캐스팅한 시험편의 제반 특성을 소결수축율변화, 건조 및 소결거동, 미세구조 관찰 등으로 조사하였다. 그 결과 알루미나몰드를 사용하여 제조된 시험편에서는 석고몰드 사용시 나타나는 표면에서의 오염이 관찰되지 않았으며, 각 층의 두께조절이 쉬웠고 높은 재현성을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 특히 알루미나몰드를 사용하여 제조한 SUS316에서는 어떤 열화현상도 관찰되지 않았다. 결국 슬립캐스팅 공정으로 3Y-TZP/SUS316계 경사기능재료를 제조함에 있어서 기존의 석고몰드보다 다공질 알루미나몰드의 사용이 바람직하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

치과용 지르코니아 코어 가공후의 잔여물을 활용하여 주입성형법으로 제조한 소결체의 특성 (The Properties of Sintered Body by Using the Slip Casting Process with Remained Dental Zirconia Block after Machining)

  • Purpose: All ceramic crown, made from zirconia instead of metal for core material, is recognized the best esthetical prosthesis. Recently, high-priced zirconia blocks and expensive CAD/CAM machines come into use for making zirconia core. In this study, slip casting process is adapted to evaluate the possibility of the recycling the remained parts of zirconia block after machining. Methods: Remained zirconia blocks were reduced to powders with zirconia mortar, and screened with 180 mesh sieve. Passed powders were ball milled under various conditions to obtain the optimum zirconia slip for casting. Solid casting method was used for casting the specimens with plaster mold. Formed specimens were dried and biscuit fired at $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Biscuit fired specimens were finished with exact shape of square pillar. Finished specimens were fired from $1,200^{\circ}C$ to $1,550^{\circ}C$ at $50^{\circ}C$ intervals for 1 hour. Linear shrinkage, apparent porosity, water absorption, bulk density, and flexural strength were tested. Microstructures were observed by SEM. Results: Above examinations indicated that the optimum firing temperture was $1,500^{\circ}C$, and when fired at this temperature for 1 hour, apparent porosity was 0% and flexural strength was 680MPa. SEM photomicrographs showed uniform 200~300nm grain size, which is equal with microcture of sintered commercial zirconia block. when compare 24% linear shrinkage of cast specimen with 20% linear shrinkage of CAD/CAM machined block, it was estimated that the size controlling of cast core was not so difficult. Conclusion: According to the all of this experimental results, the cast zirconia core produced from the remained parts of zirconia block was possible to use for all ceramic denture.

Bending Strength of Textured Alumina Prepared by Slip Casting in a Strong Magnetic Field

  • The mechanical properties of ceramics materials can be tailored by designing their microstructures. We have reported that development of texture can be controlled by slip casting in a strong magnetic field followed by heating even for diamagnetic ceramics such as alumina. A strong magnetic field of 12T was applied to the suspension indcuding alumina powder to rotate each particle during slip casting. The sintering was conducted at the desired temperature in air without a magnetic field. C-axis of alumina was parallel to the magnetic field. Bending strength of textured alumina depended on the direction of oriented microstructure.

Fabrication of Textured $Al_2O_3-Mullite-SiC$ Nano-composite by Slip Casting in a High Magnetic Field and Reaction Sintering

  • We have demonstrated that textured $Al_2O_3-mullite-SiC$ nanocomposites can be fabricated by slip casting followed by partial oxidation - reaction sintering of mixed suspensions of $Al_2O_3$ and SiC powders in a high magnetic field. The sintered density was changed by the degree of oxidation at 1200C and 1300C. The degree of orientation of alumina in the nanocomposite was examined on the basis of the X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron micrographs. It is confirmed that alumina-oriented nanocomposites were fabricated. The three-point bending strength at room temperature was observed for the nanocomposites.
