한국 어머니의 육아 실태조사 및 학업성적과의 관련성에 관한 연구 (The Survey of Korean Mother's Child-rearing Methods and a Study of Their Influence on School Achievement)

  • The purpose of this study is to survey Korean mother's child-rearing methods and to see what influence each layed on children's school achievement. To obtain data, a questionaire was given to 607 boys and girls, who were selected from both public and private middle schools in Seoul. The student were consisted of two distinct groups, namely superior and inferior. Five top students from each class were categorized as the superior group and five bottom ones from each class were categorized as the inferior group. The questionaire was consisted of 7 items, namely, the needing method, feeding period, weaning time, mothers general attitudes about crying, sleeping arrangement and whether mothers workers or not. Summary of this study is as follows ; 1. As far as babies were breast-fed, there was no significant between the superior group and the interior group no matter what feeding period and weaning time were. 2. When the babies were fed by milk or both by milk and breast, the most favorable weaning time for intellectual development seemed to be between 6 and 9 months after birth. 3. The mother's general attitudes to babies crying and the sleeping arrangement have definite influence on the children's school achievement. It was shown that if mothers hugged babies as soon as they cried the babies tended to be superior, but the mothers of inferior group had tendency to let alone, until the babies stopped crying or hug after finishing their urgent works. Then the superior group was allowed to sleep alone in his own bed in the mother's room. On the contrary, the inferior group was kept in their mother bed or that of other family's without being given his own bed. 4. Whether mother had a job or not did not had any influence on children's school achievement. 5. Korean mothers have tendency to hug their babies as soon as when they find them cry and feed them with breast milk. The study also shows that the mothers rearing attitudes has certain influencial effect upon the children's school achievement.

Anxiolytic effect of leaf galls extracts of Pipernigrum Linn. in Swiss Albino mice

  • Anxiety disorders are one of the serious problems which need proper therapy devoid of side effects of presently available medicines. The present study evaluates the anxiolytic and sedative activity of leaf galls of Piper nigrum Linn. in Swiss Albino mice. The pet. ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of leaf galls of Piper nigrum Linn were obtained by continuous soxhlet extraction. The prepared extracts were found to be safe up to 2000 mg/kg body weight of mice in the acute toxicity study. Each extract was assessed for anxiolytic activity in Swiss Albino mice by elevated plus Maze, open field test, rota rod test and phenobarbitone induced sleeping time test. In the Elevated Plus Maze test, the pet.ether extract and chloroform extract at a dose of 50 mg/kg b.w. orally, significantly (P < 0.01) increased the number of entries and time spent in open arm comparable with standard diazepam at the dose of 10 mg/kg. b.w. p.o. In the open field test, pet. ether extract (50 mg/kg b.w. p.o.) showed significant increase (P < 0.01) in ambulation and activity in the center. Chloroform extract (50 mg/kg b.w p.o.) was significant (P < 0.05) for both ambulation and center activity. Pet. ether extract (50 mg/kg b.w. p.o) also showed significant activity (P < 0.01) in rota rod test. All the results are comparable with standard diazepam at the dose of 1 mg /kg b.w, p.o. Moreover all the extracts showed significant (P < 0.01) increase in the phenobarbitone induced sleeping time among which pet.ether showed more prominent activity (36%) comparable with control. The results revealed that, the active pet.ether extract and chloroform extract of leaf galls of Piper nigrum Linn is worthwhile to develop the bioactive principle for anxiolytic activity.

테마관광농원의 합리적인 경영모형설정 연구 (A Study of Establishing the Rationable Theme Park Farm Model of Rural Tourism)

  • As theme park farms, which attract noticeably low interest from the government have gained their own managerial skills for a long time, we can now and many successful cases, This study showed there were four types of tourism villages; those that were experienced in the harvesting and sale of agricultural products, farm sleeping, recreational and leisure, and food. 1 also suggested the successful management model according to each type. The results show the recreational and leisure type had the highest annual income out of all four groups. The total income of recreational and leisure type villages were 260,000 thousand won which is more when compared to 110,000 thousand won for sleeping, 60,000 thousand won (or food, and 40,000 thousand won for harvesting agricultural products. The ratios of capital productivity (net income/invest) were 12.4 for recreation and leisure, 7.7 for food, 6.9 for farm stay, and 2.89 for harvesting. 1 suggest that farm managers should be satisfied with farm management and the priority of improving farm management should focus on the development of specific products within each farm.

Malaria Risk Factors in Kaligesing, Purworejo District, Central Java Province, Indonesia: A Case-control Study

  • Objectives: Malaria remains a public health concern worldwide, including Indonesia. Purworejo is a district in which endemic of malaria, they have re-setup to entering malaria elimination in 2021. Accordingly, actions must be taken to accelerate and guaranty that the goal will reach based on an understanding of the risk factors for malaria. Thus, we analysed malaria risk factors based on human and housing conditions in Kaligesing, Purworejo, Indonesia. Methods: A case-control study was carried out in Kaligesing subdistrict, Purworejo, Indonesia in July to August 2017. A structured questionnaire and checklist were used to collect data from 96 participants, who consisted of 48 controls and 48 cases. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses were performed. Results: Bivariate analysis found that education level, the presence of a cattle cage within 100 m of the house, not sleeping under a bednet the previous night, and not closing the doors and windows from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. were significantly ($p{\leq}0.25$) associated with malaria. Of these factors, only not sleeping under a bednet the previous night and not closing the doors and windows from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. were significantly associated with malaria. Conclusions: The findings of this study demonstrate that potential risk factor for Malaria should be paid of attention all the time, particularly for an area which is targeting Malaria elimination.

여름철 수면시 온열쾌적감 평가 - 제4보 : 쾌적수면을 위한 실내온도 설정에 관한 연구 - (Evaluation of Thermal Comfort during Sleeping in Summer - Part IV : Study on Indoor Temperature Conditions for Comfort Sleep -)

  • This study was performed to evaluate sleep efficiencies and conditions for comfortable sleep based on the analysis of sleep efficiency and MST under four thermals conditions ($22^{\circ}C,\;24^{\circ}C,\;26^{\circ}C,\;30^{\circ}C$). Five female subjects who have similar life cycle and sleep patterns were participated for the sleep experiment. Their age was from 20 to 22 years old. They were healthy, and had regular sleep with consistent bed and wakeup time. It was checked whether they had a good sleep before the night of experiment. Experiments were performed in an environmental chamber using thermo-hygrostat. The physiological signal (EEG) for sleep stage were obtained from C3-A2 and C4-Al electrode sites. Sleep stages were classified, then SWS latency and SWS/TST were calculated for the evaluation for sleep efficiencies on thermal conditions. As results, mean skin temperature for comfort sleeping was $34.5{\sim}35.4^{\circ}C$. Considering sleep efficiency and mean skin temperature, indoor room temperature of upper limit was $28.1^{\circ}C$.

  • Objectives This study was designed to report the effect of Samultang-gamibang(四物湯加味方) for insomnia caused by blood deficiency (syndrome) after excessive weight control treatment with herbal medication Methods This is a retrospective case report. We reviewed the patient's medical record after taking the patient's informed consent. Results After treatment, a patient feels calm and satisfaction emotionally as sleeping time has increased from 2hours to 6hours, the fatigue after sleeping has been reduced, and the quality of sleep has become better. Conclusions This case report suggests that Samultang-gamibang can be effective in improving sleep duration and quality if the patient suffers insomnia due to hyul-heo syndrome. Also the woman who have symptom of hyul-heo(血虛) after weight control through decreased food consumption, should bo-hyul(補血).

  • Existent researches about indoor thermal environment have been focused on to seek human's comfort in daytime. Also researches about thermal comfort during the sleeping time that is important for resting and recharging to modern people have been seldom existed. At present, as global warming phenomenon is being continued, most people are going through inconvenience by sultriness during the sleeping hours in sweltering summer night. Therefore we need another control method of an air conditioner to keep human's thermal comfort. Ambient temperature is a common factor of the environment, but analysis of its effect on human body physiology is still unknown. The effect of ambient temperature on human sleep has been increasingly studied in the last decade. This research investigated about optimal indoor temperature to maintain proper skin temperature and comfortable sleep when indoor air is cooled by an air conditioner in sweltering summer night.

여름철 수면시 온열쾌적감 평가 - 제1보 : 수면 전후 설문에 관하여 - (Evaluation of Thermal Comfort during Sleeping in Summer - Part I : On Results of Questionnaire Before and After Sleep -)

  • This study is to investigate effects of thermal conditions on sleep. Five female university students participated in the sleep experiment. Three temperature levels (22, 26, and $30^{\circ}C$) were given, and relative humidity was maintained to $50\%$. When as subject arrived in the chamber at 9 o'clock in the evening, questionnaire was given to check physical and psychological conditions. After checking conditions, subjects went to bed till 07 : 30 in the morning. Body movement was checked during sleeping. After sleep in the chamber, questionnaire was given to the subject in order to check sleep quality. Subjects evaluated sleep quality by themselves by answering the time they fall asleep and wake up, frequency of wake during sleep, causes of each waking, and feeling after sleep. Sleep quality was rated with 7-point scale. At $30^{\circ}C$ condition, body movement was significantly higher than of other thermal conditions. The best sleep quality was obtained at the $26^{\circ}C$ condition, while the worst sleep was taken at the $30^{\circ}C$ condition.

구안와사 환자 50례의 스트레스 정도에 관한 임상적 연구 (The Clinical Study of Stress Perceived by 50 patients with Bell's palsy)

  • Objective : This study is to explore the various of the stress by perceived by paitents with Bell's palsy Methods : 50 patients who were diagnosed as Bell's palsy were sequentially interviewed and examined Results : The results were as follows 1. The mean average PWI(Psychosocial well-being index, total : score)was $41.58{\pm}17.53$ :Factor I(Social performance and self-confidence) with a mean of $11.18{\pm}8.38$, Fact II( Depression) with a mean of $8.94{\pm}6.26$, Factor III(Sleeping disturbance and anxiety) with a mean $of7.56{\pm}5.20$, Factor IV(General well-being and vatality)with a mean $of9.90{\pm}4.44$ 2. With the respect to the general characteristics of subjects, there were statistically significant differences in the patients's stress perception by sex, having an occupation and the amount of sleeping time. Conclusions : We needed the further study about the relation between stress and Bell's palsy

  • A major accident occurring on the bed is falls that occur during at times when the care of nurses or protectors is inadequate, which is fatal to patients or the elderly. In particular, Enuresis or sleepiness caused by sleep apnea increases the risk of falls. Therefore, it is very important to detect falls and sleep apnea of patients without infringing privacy in the bed to patient's safety and accident prevention. In this paper, we reviewed the technologies developed for bed monitoring and implemented a non-intrusive monitoring system. The Occupancy Sensor allows the temperature of the bed and surrounding area to be extracted to enable track of the patient's motion. The Doppler Radar detects the patient's movements at normal times and the respiration state when patients have no movement during sleeping. It is specially designed for real-time monitoring of falling and respiration during sleeping through contactless multi-sensing while solving patient's privacy problems.
