Enuresis is intermittent urinary incontinence during sleep at night in children aged 5 years or older. The main pathophysiology of enuresis involves nocturnal polyuria, abnormal sleep arousal, and low functional bladder capacity. In rare cases, enuresis is an early symptom of endocrine disorders such as diabetes or thyroid disorders. Herein, we report a case of a 12-year-old girl with enuresis as a rare initial presentation of Graves' disease. She complained of nocturnal enuresis from a month before visiting our clinic. She also complained of urinary frequency, headache, and weight loss. On physical examination, she had tachycardia, intention tremors, and a diffuse goiter on her anterior neck with bruit on auscultation. Her thyroid function test results revealed hyperthyroidism, and Graves' disease was diagnosed as the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor autoantibody was positive. After treatment for Graves' disease with methimazole, symptoms of enuresis resolved within 2 weeks as she became clinically and biochemically euthyroid. In children with secondary enuresis, Graves' disease should be considered as a differential diagnosis, and signs of hyperthyroidism should be checked for carefully.
This paper proposes four general wireless gateway types, which are distinguished by their own processing ways to connect between a wireless sub-network of things and the mobile internet that links mobile network to internet step by step. In this paper, we also design general processing procedures of these four types using the state transition model. Gateways of each types were developed on the basis of the resulted state transition models and their performances were evaluated through several tests, analyzed, and compared each other. As the results of our evaluation, compared with the other types, the type, which combines both of a low-power Sleep-interrupt way and polling ways for receiving data or responses in all the waiting states of a gateway, shows the best performance in all of data transmission real-timeliness, data loss and energy consumption.
Although there have been several attempts to use virtual reality (VR) in the treatment of depression, the results have been inconsistent and existing studies have mostly relied on subjective measures to assess the effectiveness of VR in improving depression. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of nature experience-based VR intervention on depressive symptoms in a young population using both subjective and objective measurements. The study population included 15 participants who had more than 14 identifiers of the Korean Beck Depression Inventory (K-BDI)-II. Participants received three weeks (four times per week) of VR intervention. The effectiveness of VR was assessed through changes in K-BDI-II scores and depression-related blood biomarkers. Nature experience-based VR intervention led to an approximately 50% reduction of K-BDI-II score (before 25.7±7.7 vs. after 12.5±8.3 (P<0.001)). Of these, loss of pleasure and fatigue showed the largest amount of improvement. However, levels of cortisol, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and interleukin-6 did not differ from those at baseline. The findings of our pilot study suggest that nature experience-based VR can be a useful adjunctive treatment method for improving depressive symptoms in individuals who have difficulty accessing the real outside natural environment.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory disease that affects 1%-20% of people worldwide. Despite affecting many people, AD current treatments, such as corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors, have not only harmful secondary effects but are also often ineffective. Therefore, natural nontoxic compounds are on high demand for developing new effective AD treatments. Panax ginseng Meyer has been used traditionally for its promising healing and restorative properties to treat many diseases including skin disorders, reason why in this review we want to explore the research performed with AD and P. ginseng as well as determining its potential for new drug development. Previous researches have shown that P. ginseng has positive effects in AD patients such as lower eczema area and severity index, transepidermal water loss, and immunoglobulin E levels and better quality of sleep. In vivo animal models, as well, have shown positive results to P. ginseng and derived ginsenosides, such as the decrease of transepidermal water loss, immunoglobulin E levels in serum, allergy-related cytokines, and downregulation of NF-κB, MAPK, and Ikaros pathways. All of these previous data suggest that P. ginseng and its derived ginsenosides are undoubtedly a nontoxic effective option to treat AD.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatment on a patient with atopic eruption of pregnancyMethods: Patient who diagnosed by atopic eruption of pregnancy was enrolled in this study. She received Korean medicine therapies such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and external application. Sopungchungyoung-tangs and Seungmahwangryeon-tangs were prescribed according to the patient’s constitution which was pungyeol. The severity of symptom was evaluated by the severity SCORing for Atopic Dermatitis index (SCORAD index). Results: Subjective symptom such as Systemic pruritus, sleep loss, and Dermatitis lesions was reduced by Korean medicine therapies. Conclusions: The present study suggests that Korean medicine therapies have a effect on atopic eruption of pregnancy.

There is a concern in the aviation community that pilot schedules can lead to fatigue and increased chance of an aviation accident. Yet despite this concern, there is little empirical studies showing the relationship between pilot fatigue and commercial aviation accidents. At this point of view, countering fatigue is a challenging proposition in complex aviation operations. However, with appropriate planning, many strategies can contribute to pilot alertness and flight safety. With proper education program, sustaining a physiological fit, a right knowledge about pilot fatigue can design a safety operations. On this study, I inquire into the ways of enhancing pilot's efficiency from fatigue.

The effects of traffic noise are a serious concern in many urban communities throughout the world. Environmental noise at high intensities directly affects human health by causing hearing loss and indirectly affects human welfare by interfering with sleep, thought, and conversation. In general, portland cement concrete(PCC) pavement is known to create more noise than asphaltic surfaces though it has the advantage of durability and superior surface. However, the results of preliminary laboratory test showed exposed aggregate concrete(EAC) have an effect on reducing traffic noise. Based on the laboratory test, pilot construction of exposed aggregate concrete was performed and series of in-situ measurements were conducted for noise analysis which included the pass-by noise measurement and the close-proximity method. Conclusively, It is expected that tire/pavement noise which is represented much noise levels at higher frequencies would be significantly reduced on special textures of pavement as like exposed aggregate concrete.
There is much confusion in the field of atopic dermatitis (AD) regarding how to best measuredisease severity objectively. Therefore, we aimed to establish a new adequate scoring system for AD, that should be based on comparisonand analysis of various scoring systems. We report as follows. Methods: We searched for data relating to severity scoring systems for atopic dermatitis in Entrez PubMed From 1990 to 2001 Results and Conclusions: 1. Properties of severity scoring systems were validity, reliability, sensitivity of change and ease of use. 2. The essential items of severity scoring systems were extent. intensity and subjective symptoms. 3. The surface extent of the lesion was evaluated by the percentage of involvement of each of 10 areas. 4. The criteria of severity were divided into intensity and subjective symptoms. Intensity items are erythema, papulation, lichenification, oozing, dryness, excoriations, and pigmentation. The subjective symptom is pruritus, evaluated according to sleep loss. 5. The significant items of severity scoring system were symptomsrather than areas. As it were, we assumed extent accounted for around 30% of each total score, with intensity and subjective symptoms representing 70%.
It is practical nowadays to automate data recording in order to prevent loss and tampering of records. There are existing technologies that satisfy this needs and one of them is wireless sensor networks (WSN). Wireless body sensor networks (WBSN) are wireless networks and information-processing systems which are deployed to monitor medical condition of patients. In terms of performance, WBSNs are restricted by energy, and communication between nodes. In this paper, we focused in improving the performance of communication to achieve less energy consumption and to save power. The main idea of this paper is to prioritize nodes that exhibit a sudden change of vital signs that could put the patient at risk. Cluster head is the main focus of this study in order to be effective; its main role is to check the sent data of the patient that exceeds threshold then transfer to the sink node. The proposed scheme implemented added a time-based protocol to sleep/wakeup mechanism for the sensor nodes. We seek to achieve a low energy consumption and significant throughput in this study.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of depression and to identify the influencing factors of depression. Methods: The data of the 2006 Youth Health Risk Behavior web-based Survey Collected by the Korea Center Disease Control was analyzed by Chi-square test, logistic regression using the SPSS program. Results: The influencing factors of depression by general characteristics were gender, school, health status, socioeconomic status and living with both parents. The influencing factors of depression by health risk behaviors were perceived stress, sleep, effort for weight loss, smoking, drinking and drug use. Conclusion: This study suggested that Depression prevention programs should be developed in considering preventing and reducing health risk behaviors.
