In Korea, due to the insufficiency of natural aggregates and increasing needs of crushed stones, it is necessary to examine the alkali-silica reaction of the crushed stones. The reaction produces an alkali-silica reaction gel which can imbibe pore solution and swell to generate cracks that are visible In affected concrete. In general, crushed stones are tested by petrograptuc examination, chemical method and mortar-bar method, but the most reliable method Is mortar-bar test. This study tested alkali-silica reactivity of crushed stones of various rock types using ASTM C 227 and C 1260, and compared the results of two test methods. This study also analyzed effects of particle size and grading of reactive aggregate on alkali-silica reaction expansion of mortar-bar. The effectiveness of mineral admixtures to reduce detrimental expansion caused by alkali-silica reaction was investigated through the ASTM C 1260 method. The mineral admixtures used were nv ash, silica fume, metakaolin and ground granulated blast furnace slag. The replacement ratios of 0, 5, 10, 15, 25 and $35\%$ were commonly applied for all the mineral admixtures and the replacement ratios of 45 and $55\%$ were additional applied for the admixtures that could maintain workability. The results indicate that replacement ratios of $25\%$ for ay ash, $10\%$ for silica fume, $25\%$ for metakaolin or $35\%$ for ground granulated blast furnace slag were most effective to reduce alkali-silica reaction expansion under the experimental conditions.
To evaluate the effects of limestone powder and silica fume on the properties of high-strength high-volume ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) blended cement concrete, this study investigated the rheology, strength development, hydration and pozzolanic reaction characteristics, porosity and pore size distribution of high-strength mortars with the water-to-binder ratio of 20, 50 to 80% GGBFS, up to 20% limestone powder, and up to 10% silica fume. According to test results, compared with the Portland cement mixture, the high-volume GGBFS mixture had much higher flow due to the low surface friction of GGBFS particles and higher strength in the early age due to the accelerated cement hydration by increase of free water; however, because of too low water-to-binder ratio and cement content, and lack of calcium hydroxide content, the pozzolanic reactio cannot be activated and the long-term strength development was limited. Limestone powder did not affect the flowability, and also accelerate the early cement hydration. However, because its effect on the acceleration of cement hydration is not greater than that of GGBFS, and it does not have hydraulic reactivity unlikely to GGBFS, compressive strength was reduced proportional to the replacement ratio of limestone powder. Also, silica fume and very fine GGBFS lowered flow and strength by absorbing more free water required for cement hydration. Capillary porosities of GGBFS blended mortars were smaller than that of OPC mortar, but the effect of limestone powder on porosity was not noticeable, and silica fume increased porosity due to low degree of hydration. Nevertheless, it is confirmed that the addition of GGBFS and silica fume increases fine pores.
Evaluation of chloride penetration is very important, because induced chloride ion causes corrosion in embedded steel. Diffusion coefficient obtained from rapid chloride penetration test is currently used, however this method cannot provide a correct prediction of chloride content since it shows only ion migration velocity in electrical field. Apparent diffusion coefficient of chloride ion based on simple Fick's Law can provide a total chloride penetration magnitude to engineers. This study proposes an analysis technique to predict chloride penetration using apparent diffusion coefficient of chloride ion from neural network (NN) algorithm and time-dependent diffusion phenomena. For this work, thirty mix proportions with the related diffusion coefficients are studied. The components of mix proportions such as w/b ratio, unit content of cement, slag, fly ash, silica fume, and fine/coarse aggregate are selected as neurons, then learning for apparent diffusion coefficient is trained. Considering time-dependent diffusion coefficient based on Fick's Law, the technique for chloride penetration analysis is proposed. The applicability of the technique is verified through test results from short, long term submerged test, and field investigations. The proposed technique can be improved through NN learning-training based on the acquisition of various mix proportions and the related diffusion coefficients of chloride ion.
The fine powder produced by heating and grinding of the waste concrete in the waste construction was investigated whether utilize as substitution raw material of SiO$_2$, CaO, and Al$_2$O$_3$ source for OPC clinker manufacture is possible or not. In order to synthesize OPC clinker, limestone, shale, converter slag and fly ash were used as main raw materials, and modulus was fixed LSF 91.0, SM 2.60, IM 1.60. The synthesized clinkers were characterized. The Main products of synthesized clinker were C$_3$S, ${\beta}$-C$_2$S, C$_3$A, C$_4$AF as OPC clinker at 1,43$^{\circ}C$. As a result of TG-DTA and burnability index(B.U) analysis of each raw mixtures, the formation temperature of clinker phases was similar and B.I was showed easy burning as 48.6∼51.4.

Recently, review on viability of various industrial by product and natural materials as raw material for concrete has been actively done in aspect of environment-friendly issue and depletion of natural resource. This study conducted fundamental study on the possibility of utilizing mud flat as admixture and filling material for concrete. First, chemical analysis on the viability of mud flat as admixture was done and the researchers compared it with the substance of fly ash and blast furnace slag. According to the result, substance content was proven to be inadequate. In addition, as the replacement rate of mud flat increased, compressive strength and tensile strength decreased. According to the estimated result of chemical substance analysis, possibility of utilizing mud flat as admixture was low. According to the result of experiment done as filling material, 10% ~ 30% replacement rate of mud flat manifested more than 8 Mpa of compressive strength of block which may be utilized for secondary product. However, additional experiment such as making block is required afterward. According to the result of flow experiment, as the replacement rate of mud flat increased, flow value decreased, and through chloride content analysis test, it was proven that mud flat is inappropriate to be applied as steel beam using structure since it has high content of sodium. It may be utilized as products that does not use steel beam such as internal brick.
The rheological properties of cement paste system mixed with mineral admixtures (MAs) used to increase the strength and improve durability and fluidity of concrete were investigated. And cement paste systems were designed as one-, two- and three-ingredients blended paste systems. The rheological properties of paste systems were assessed by Rotovisco RT 20 rheometer (Hakke inc.) having a cylindrical serrated spindle. The rheological properties of one-ingredient paste systems were improved with increasing the dosage of superplasticizer. For two-ingredients paste systems, as increasing the replacement ratio of blast furnace slag (BFS) and fly ash (FA), the yield stress and plastic viscosity were decreased compared with non-replacement. In the ordinary portland cement (OPC)-silica fume (SF) paste systems, in accordance with an increase in the replacement ratio of SF, the yield stress and plastic viscosity were increased steeply. For three-ingredients paste systems, both OPC-BFS-SF and OPC-FA-SF paste systems, the rheological properties were improved compared with the only replacement of SF. In the case of both two-and three-ingredients paste systems, the rheological properties using BFS were improved more than FA.

Recently, application case of the ultra rapid hardening concrete-polymer composite(URHCPC) are increasing to repair for the deterioration of pavement. But it is a major disadvantage that the main material is expensive and has environmental load. For these reasons, the development of the economic, eco-friendly materials is needed. Calcium Aluminate Composite (CAC), produced by rapid cooling of atomizing method with molten ladle furnace slag, is a material capable of improving the economic feasibility and reducing the environmental load of URHCPC. In this paper, the properties of CAC and gypsum mixed CAC (GC) as alternative materials of RSC according to the types of polymer dispersion were studied. The results were as follows; compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, bonding strength and modulus of elasticity of the composites using CAC or GC showed higher values than those of plain proportion in 3 hour. In later age, they were at the same level as the general proportions. URHCPC using BPD as polymer dispersion had superior strength properties generally. But modulus of elasticity was the same level as the case of using a SBR latex. According to these results, CAC or GC can partially substituted for RSC to product the URHCPC. When URHCPC uses the BPD as the polymer dispersion, it can be improved performance.

The properties of wastes for melting need to be considered to minimize the maintenance of refractory and to discharge the molten slags smoothly from a plasma torch melter. When the nonflammable wastes from nuclear facilities such as concrete debris, glass, sand, etc., are melted, they become acid slags with low basicity since the chemical composition has much more acid oxides than basic oxides. A molten slag does not have good characteristics of discharge and is mainly responsible for the refractory erosion due to its low liquidity. In case of a stationary plasma torch melter with a slant tapping port on the wall, a fixed amount of molten slags remains inside of tapping hole as well as the melter inside after tapping out. Nonmetallic slags keep the temperature higher than melting point of metal because metallic slags located on the bottom of melter by specific gravity difference are simultaneously melted when dual mode plasma torch operates in transferred mode. In order to minimize the refractory erosion, the compatible refractories are selected considering the temperature inside the melter and the melting behavior of slags whether to contact or noncontact with molten slags. An acidic refractory shall not be installed in adjacent to a basic refractory for the resistibility against corrosion.

This research intends to analyze the basic characteristics of cements(hereinafter "CC") with affordable price and particle distribution effective as hydration heat face which are discharged at the outlet of smashing process of ordinary portland cement(hereinafter "OPC") manufacturing process such as fluidity, rigidity, temporary insulation temperature increase amount etc to review the potential of developing "CC" to 3 ingredients low heat cement that substitutes fly ash and blast furnace slag(hereinafter "BS"). As a result of experiment, fluidity tended to decrease with increase in CC substitution rate, and increase with increase in FA+BS substitution rate. Air amount tended to slightly decrease with increase in CC substitution rate, and decrease with increase in FA+BS substitution rate. Condensation characteristics were such that condensation time was delayed with increase in CC and FA+BS substitution rate. As for the temperature rising amount by temporary insulation, peak temperature decreased with increase in CC substitution rate and increase in FA+BS substitution rate in general, and thereafter, temperature tended to decrease slowly. Compressive strength decreased with increase in CC and FA+BS substitution rate, and as aging goes on, long term strength was equivalent to plain or higher. By and large, when FA+BS was substituted to CC, fluidity and air amount tended to decrease, but hydration heat face showed good reduction effects, suggesting possibility of development to 3 ingredients low heat cement.
The importance of chloride ions in the corrosion of steel in concrete has led to the concept for chloride threshold level (CTL). The CTL can be defined as the content of chlorides at the steel depth that is necessary to sustain local passive film breakdown and hence initiate the corrosion process. Despite the importance of the CTL, due to the uncertainty determining the actual limits in various environments for chloride-induced corrosion, conservative values such as 0.4% by weight of cement or 1.2 kg in 1 $m^3$ concrete have been used in predicting the corrosion-free service life of reinforced concrete structures. The paper studies the CTL for blended cement concrete by comparing the resistance of cementitious binder to the onset of chloride-induced corrosion of steel. Mortar specimens were cast with centrally located steel rebar of 10 mm in diameter using cementitious mortars with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and mixed mortars replaced with 30% pulverized fuel ash (PFA), 60% ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and 10% silica fume (SF), respectively, at 0.4 of a free W/B ratio. Chlorides were admixed in mixing water ranging 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0% by weight of binder(Based on $C1^-$). Specimens were curd 28 days at the room temperature, wrapped in polyethylene film to avoid leaching out of chloride and hydroxyl ions. Then the corrosion rate was measured using the polarization resistance method and the order of CTL for binder was determined. Thus, CTL of OPC, 60%GGBS, 30%PFA and 10%SF were determined by 1.6%, 0.45%, 0.8% and 2.15%, respectively.
