  • In recent studies, construction industry workers with higher job stress and lower work ability were more likely to experience accidents at their workplace. Likewise, fatal accidents rate was higher among simple labor workers compared to technical workers. Therefore the evaluation of a worker's job stress and work ability seems to be important in preventing the occurrence of fatal accidents. To search for ways to reduce job stress and to improve work ability, the current study conducted a job stress analysis based on age, years of service, skill level, hobbies, sleep patterns, and monthly income. For this, the Korean occupational stress questionnaire short form and the Work Ability Index (WAI) developed by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) were used. In this study, SPSS 12.0K statistics program was used for statistical analysis and significance was verified by the Kruskal-Wallis test and non-parametric tests. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : (1) Simple labor workers had higher job stress and less work ability than technical workers. (2) The more experienced workers had lower job stress and higher work ability. (3) In the case of workers who slept a lot, work ability was higher and job stress was less. (4) Monthly income influenced on the job stress and work ability. (5) Job stress and work ability in accordance with the age difference was not significant.

  • Since nitrate nitrogen is quite stable in aqueous solution, considerable skill is required to remove it. Low concentrations of nitrate nitrogen are easily removed, while high concentrations of nitrate nitrogen are difficult to remove. This study is to show that nitrate nitrogen in the form of gaseous nitrogen can be removed by using zinc ball with a diameter of about 3mm and to test the removal characteristics of nitrate nitrogen under various reaction conditions. As a result of this study, the treatment efficiency of nitrate nitrogen by continuous treatment with zinc ball was about 80%. However, there is a problem that the wastewater must be maintained in an acidic atmosphere of about pH 2, and the treated wastewater must be neutralized and discharged.

  • As computational thinking(CT) is gaining focus as a key 21st century skill much attention has been paid to promoting CT through software education. However, more studies are needed to design and implement effective CT assessment methods. This study aims to investigate the effects of three CT assessment methods in a course designed to enhance CT competencies of 52 pre-service teachers with a non-computer science background during one semester. To analyze pre-service teachers' CT competencies, we used 3 CT assessment methods: (1) pre-and post-testing based on Bebras computational thinking challenge questions, (2) Dr. Scratch to analyze group scratch projects automatically, and (3) scratch exam designed in this study to evaluate the development of CT. Our results show the positive effects of integrating assessment methods for promoting CT competencies. We end this paper with the discussion of advantages and implications of this integration.

  • By analysing the examination papers from third grade high school students, we classified the errors occurred in the problem solving process of high school 'Geometry and Vectors' into several types. There are five main types - (A)Insufficient Content Knowledge, (B)Wrong Method, (C)Logical Invalidity, (D)Unskilled Expression and (E)Interference.. Type A and B lead to an incorrect answer, and type C and D cannot be distinguished by multiple-choice or closed answer questions. Some of these types are classified into subtypes - (B1)Incompletion, (B2)Omitted Condition, (B3)Incorrect Calculation, (C1)Non-reasoning, (C2)Insufficient Reasoning, (C3)Illogical Process, (D1)Arbitrary Symbol, (D2)Using a Character Without Explanation, (D3) Visual Dependence, (D4)Symbol Incorrectly Used, (D5)Ambiguous Expression. Based on the these types of errors, answers of each problem was analysed in detail, and proper ways to correct or prevent these errors were suggested case by case. When problems that were used in the periodical test were given again in descriptive forms, 67% of the students tried to answer, and 14% described flawlessly, despite that the percentage of correct answers were higher than 40% when given in multiple-choice form. 34% of the students who tried to answer have failed to have logical validity. 37% of the students who tried to answer didn't have enough skill to express. In lessons on curves of secondary degree, teachers should be aware of several issues. Students are easily confused between 'focus' and 'vertex', and between 'components of a vector' and 'coordinates of a point'. Students often use an undefined expression when mentioning a parallel translation. When using a character, students have to make sure to define it precisely, to prevent the students from making errors and to make them express in correct ways.
