무가압 침투법에 의해 제조된 $Al-5Mg-X(Si,Cu,Ti)/SiC_p$ 복합재료의 조직 및 마멸특성 (Microstructure and Wear Property of $Al-5Mg-X(Si,Cu,Ti)/SiC_p$ Composites Fabricated by Pressureless Infiltration Method)

  • Metal matrix composites(MMCs) reinforced with hard particles have many potential application in aerospace structures, auto parts, semiconductor package, heat resistant panels, wear resistant materials and so on. In this work, the effect of SiC partioel sizes(50 and 100 ${\mu}m$) and additional elements such as Si, Cu and Ti on the microstructure and the wear property of $Al-5Mg-X(Si,Cu,Ti)/SiC_p$ composites produced by pressureless infiltration method have been investigated using optical microscopy, scanning eletron microcopy(SEM) with EDS(energy dispersive spectrometry), hardness test, X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and wear test. In present study, the sound $Al-5Mg-X(Si,Cu,Ti)/SiC_p$(50 and 100 ${\mu}m$) composites were fabricated by pressureless infiltration method. The $Al-5Mg-0.3Si-O.1Cu-O.1Ti/SiC_p$ composite with $50 {\mu}m$ size of SiC particle has higher hardness and better wear property than any other composite with $100{\mu}m$ size of SiC particle produced by pressureless infiltration method. The hardness and wear property of $Al-5Mg/SiC_p$(50 and 100 ${\mu}m$) composites were enhanced by the addition of Si, Cu and Ti in Al-5%Mg matrix alloy.

(100) MgO 기판에 성장한 CoFe2O4 박막의 물리적 및 자기적 특성에 관한 연구 (CoFe2O4 Films Grown on (100) MgO Substrates by a rf Magnetron Sputtering Method)

  • 단결정 상태의 $CoFe_2O_4$ 박막을 rf magnetron sputtering 증착법을 이용하여 (100) MgO 기판 위에 성장시켰다. X선 회절기, Rutherford back-scattering 분석기와 고감도 주사전자현미경을 이용하여 측정한 결과 증착된 박막이 기판과 잘 정렬되어 성장한 것을 확인할 수 있었다. $600^{\circ}C$의 기판 온도에서 성장한 페라이트 박막은 약 200nm크기의 사각형 형태로 규칙적으로 분포되어 있음이 관찰되었다. 그러나 $700^{\circ}C$의 기판 온도에서 성장한 박막은 불규칙한 모양으로 이루어져 있었으며 30nm에서 150nm에 이르는 다양한 입자 크기를 보이고 있었다. 섭동자화기를 이용한 자기이력곡선 측정 결과 성장한 박막의 자화용이축이 기판과 수직하게 배열하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 MgO 기판과 성장 박막과의 격자상수 차이로 인하여 기판과 수직한 방향의 보자력은 매우 큰 값을 나타내었다. 즉 평행한 방향의 보자력은 283 Oe이고 수직한 방향의 보자력은 6800 Oe였다. $700^{\circ}C$의 기판 온도에 서 성장한 페라이트 박막은 $600^{\circ}C$의 기판 온도에서 성장한 박막의 보자력 및 포화자화 값과 유사한 값을 보였으나 각형비는 급격하게 감소하였다.

Recovery of Ammonium Nitrogen and Phosphate from the Piggery Wastewater as Struvite and Its Assessment for the Reduction of Water Pollution Through the Field Test

  • Excess N and P from the livestock manure applied to farmlands, have entered the water systems and poses a serious threat to the natural environment. Consequently, there has been recent awareness towards the management of livestock manure and its related fields. In this study, piggery wastewater was collected from a piggery in Pohang city, Korea. At 800℃, thermal decomposition of a natural stone, magnesite (MgCO3), yielded powered MgO with particle sizes ranging between 10 to 100 ㎛. Furthermore, NH4+-N and PO43--P were recovered as struvite precipitates from the piggery wastewater, by adjusting the pH with MgO and H3PO4. At pH 10, the recovery efficiencies of NH4+-N and PO43--P were found to be 86.1% and 94.1%, respectively. Using an X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), the struvite in the precipitate was confirmed to be consistent with standard pure struvite. Further, the purity of the struvite precipitate was analyzed using an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and thermal gravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), and found to be between 79.2% and 93.0%. Additionally, struvite-containing piggery wastewater and sawdust were mixed in a weight ratio of 2.5:1 and processed into a mature compost. The newly manufactured compost passed all quality standards required for first-class graded livestock composts. Moreover, this compost was sprayed directly onto the soil at the test site, and various parameters of the soil's effluent, such as total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (T-N), total phosphorus (T-P), and dissolved oxygen (DO), were analyzed and measured. Based on these results, it is determined that the newly manufactured compost can more significantly reduce water pollution than commercial compost.

Seed를 사용한 Diopside 결정유약 (Diopside Crystal Glaze Using Seed)

  • Currently, diopside ($MgCaSi_2O_6$) crystal glaze is used frequently for pottery works or in earthen wares, though the process is not straightforward. However, to create and control the positions and sizes of the crystals in desired amounts when making pottery is difficult. To solve this problem, a diopside crystal seed was created at a temperature of $1450^{\circ}C$. After planting this seed in the glaze, a glaze combination and firing process which allows a user to create crystals with the desired position and at the desired size were established. In addition, in order to investigate the creation process of the crystals, the growth patterns of the crystals were observed and examined using Raman spectrography and XRD and SEM analyses. As a result, the optimum synthesis condition of the diopside seed was created by mixing 1 mole of $CaCo_3$, 0.2 mole of $(MgCo_3)_4(MgCoH)_2{\cdot}5H_2O$ and 2 moles of $SiO_2$ and then applying a firing process to the mixture at $1,450^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. The optimum glaze content of the seed was 70 % feldspar, 20 % limestone and 10 % $MgCo_3$. For the firing process, it was confirmed that the size of crystal is larger with a longer firing time at $1100^{\circ}C$ by completing a two-hour process at $1280^{\circ}C$. In addition, the diopside crystal has columnar structure and is less than $1{\mu}m$ in size.

나일틸라피아, Oreochromis niloticus의 어체중 및 수온에 따른 산소 소비량 (Oxygen Consumption in Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, in Relation to Body Weight and Water Temperature)

  • Changes of oxygen consumption of Nile tilapia in relation to different body sizes(average body weight 4 g, 40 g, 120 g and 400 g) and water temperatures ($20^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$) were investigated by a continuous oxygen monitoring system. Mean oxygen consumption of 4 g, 40 g, 120 g and 400 g Nile tilapia at $20^{\circ}C$ were 318.8, 214.9, 84.1 and 69.4 mg $O_2$/kg fish/hr and that at $25^{\circ}C$ were 435.2, 345.9, 151.5 and 115.9 mg $O_2$/kg fish/hr, and that at $30^{\circ}C$ were 611.1, 538.4, 320.8, and 236.0 mg $O_2$/kg fish/hr, respectively. Oxygen consumption per unit body weight tended to decrease exponentially at all temperatures (P<0.05) as body weigth of the fish increased. Oxygen consumption of this fish at $25^{\circ}C$ was $1.61\pm0.18$ times higher than that at $20^{\circ}C$ and oxygen consumption at $30^{\circ}C$ was $1.53\pm0.27$ times higher than that at $25^{\circ}C$. Oxygen consumption per unit body weight linearly increased with the water temperature increased. Also, oxygen consumption of this fish during day time was higher than that during night time at 12L:12D day light condition. The differences between maximum and minimum daily oxygen consumption of this fish increased with the water temperature increased.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Solid Polymer Electrode Fabricated with Low IrO2 Loading for Water Electrolysis

  • To maximize the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in the electrolysis of water, nano-grade $IrO_2$ powder with a low specific surface was prepared as a catalyst for a solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) system, and a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) was prepared with a catalyst loading as low as $2mg\;cm^{-2}$ or less. The $IrO_2$ catalyst was composed of heterogeneous particles with particle sizes ranging from 20 to 70 nm, having a specific surface area of $3.8m^2g^{-1}$. The anode catalyst layer of about $5{\mu}m$ thickness was coated on the membrane (Nafion 117) for the MEA by the decal method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) confirmed strong adhesion at the interface between the membrane and the catalyst electrode. Although the loading of the $IrO_2$ catalyst was as low as $1.1-1.7mg\;cm^{-2}$, the SPE cell delivered a voltage of 1.88-1.93 V at a current density of $1A\;cm^{-2}$ and operating temperature of $80^{\circ}C$. That is, it was observed that the over-potential of the cell for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) decreased with increasing $IrO_2$ catalyst loading. The electrochemical stability of the MEA was investigated in the electrolysis of water at a current density of $1A\;cm^{-2}$ for a short time. A voltage of ~2.0 V was maintained without any remarkable deterioration of the MEA characteristics.

광산배수의 적극적 처리시설에서 발생하는 슬러지 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Characteristics of Sludge generated from Active Treatment System of Mine Drainage)

  • 산성광산배수 처리방법은 적극적 처리방식과 소극적 처리방식이 일반적으로 사용되고 있으며, 이때 발생되는 부산물인 슬러지는 국내에서 약 5천 톤/년으로 발생하고 있다. 본 연구는 적극적 처리방식 중 물리·화학적 처리방식으로 정화 후 발생되는 슬러지의 특성을 조사하여 재활용 가능여부를 검토하기 위함이다. 5개소(D, H, S, T, Y) 수질정화시설의 슬러지의 특성을 물리·화학적 분석을 통해 검토하였다. 그 결과 pH는 pH 5.86 ~ pH 7.89로 측정되었고, 수분함량은 51 % ~ 82 %로 분석되었으며, 입자크기는 대부분 25 ㎛보다 작은 미립자로 구성되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. ICP-OES를 이용한 슬러지 내 무기물질 분석결과, Al, Fe, Mn의 농도범위는 각각 1,189 mg/kg ~ 129,344 mg/kg, 106,132 mg/kg ~ 338,011 mg/kg, 3,472 mg/kg ~ 11,743 mg/kg로 조사되어 고농도로 존재함을 확인 할 수 있었다. 그 외 무기물질 중 중금속류에 대해서는 T-슬러지는 As와 Zn, D-슬러지는 Cd, H-슬러지는 Ni, S-슬러지는 Zn, Y-슬러지는 Cd의 농도가 토양오염우려기준을 초과하였다. 또한 슬러지의 용출 특성을 알기위해 폐기물 용출시험(KSLT) 및 TCLP 시험을 진행하였다. 슬러지 재활용시 용출되어 지하수에 미치는 영향 확인을 위해 지하수 수질기준(생활용수) 20개 항목에 대하여 수행하였다. 용출시험결과 특정유해물질 16개 항목에서 모두 불검출로 확인되었으며, 일반항목 4개 항목에 대해서는 모두 생활용수 기준치 이내로 만족하였다. XRD, SEM-EDS의 분석결과, 슬러지는 주로 방해석, 석영의 패턴을 보였으며, 높은 Fe, O의구성비율로철수산화물이높은비중을차지하는것으로보였다. 이를 통해서 비매체접촉형 방식의 재활용의 가능성이 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Microfiltration/ultrafiltration polyamide-6 membranes for copper removal from aqueous solutions

  • Microfiltration/ultrafiltration (MF/UF) Adsorptive polyamide-6 (PA-6) membranes were prepared using wet phase inversion process. The prepared PA-6 membranes are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), porosity and swelling degree. In this study, the membranes performance has examined by adsorptive removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions in a batch adsorption mode. The $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes display sponge like and highly porous structures, with porosities of 41-73%. Under the conditions examined, the adsorption experiments have showed that the $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes had a good adsorption capacity (up to 120-280 mg/g at the initial copper ion concentration ($C_0$) = 680 mg/L, pH7), fast adsorption rates and short adsorption equilibrium times (less than 1.5-2 hrs) for copper ions. The fast adsorption in this study may be attributed to the high porosities and large pore sizes of the $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes, which have facilitated the transport of copper ions to the adsorption. The results obtained from the study illustrated that the copper ions which have adsorbed on the polyamide membranes can be effectively desorbed in an Ethylene dinitrilotetra acetic acid Di sodium salt ($Na_2$ EDTA) solution from initial concentration (up to 92% desorption efficiency) and the PA-6 membranes can be reused almost without loss of the adsorption capacity for copper ions. The results obtained from the study suggested that the $PA-6/H_2O$ membranes can be effectively applied for the adsorptive removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions.

시호가 PTU (6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil)로 유발된 Rat 갑상샘 기능저하증에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Bupleuri Radix on the Rat Hypothyroidism Induced by PTU (6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil))

  • The object of this study was to evaluate the effect of Bupleuri Radix, aqueous extracts of the root part of Bupleurum falcatum on the 6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil (PTU)-induced rat hypothyroidism. Aqueous extracts of Bupleuri Radix (BR; yield = 11.73%) were administered, once day for 42 days from 2 weeks before start of PTU treatment as an oral dose of 300 and 150 mg/kg (body weight), and hypothyroidism was induced by daily subcutaneous treatment of PTU 10 mg/kg for 28 days. The changes on the body weight, thyroid gland weights, serum thyroid hormone - thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine ($T_3$) and thyroxine ($T_4$), serum lipid profiles - total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglyceride, liver antioxidant defense system - lipid peroxidation, $H_2O_2$, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were observed with histopathology of thyroid glands. Results were compared with $LevoT_4$ 0.5 mg/kg treated rats. As results of PTU treatment, marked decreases of body weights, triglyceride contents, liver CAT activities and changes of serum thyroid hormone levels were observed with increases of serum AST, HDL contents, liver $H_2O_2$ and SOD activities and thyroid gland weight. In addition, marked hyperplasia of follicular cells with decreases of follicular colloid contents and sizes were demonstrated at histopathological inspections. However, these PTU induced hypothyroidism were dose-dependently inhibited by treatment of BR extracts, and BR extracts effectively regulated the hypothyroidism related changes on the antioxidant defense system. The results obtained in this study suggest that BR extracts have favorable effects on the thyroid hormone productions with beneficial effects on the hypothyroidism mediated by the modulatory effects on the antioxidant defense system.

인삼이 PTU (6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil)로 유발된 Rat 갑상선 기능저하증에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Ginseng Radix on the Rat Hypothyroidism Induced by PTU (6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil))

Methods : Aqueous extracts of Ginseng Radix(GR; yield = 11.70%) were administered, once day for 42 days from 2 weeks before start of PTU treatment as an oral dose of 300 and 150 mg/kg(body weight), and hypothyroidism was induced by daily subcutaneous treatment of PTU 10mg/kg for 28 days. The changes in the body weight, thyroid gland weights, serum levels of thyroid hormone-thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH), tri-iodothyronine(T3) and thyroxine(T4), total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein(LDL), high density lipoprotein(HDL) and triglyceride, liver antioxidant defense system-lipid peroxidation, $H_2O_2$, superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) were observed with histopathology of thyroid glands. Results : Results were compared with LevoT4 0.5mg/kg treated rats. GR extracts suppressed the decreases in the body weight, thyroid gland weights, T3 and T4, TG, liver $H_2O_2$ and SOD activities as results of PTU treatment. And GR extracts suppressed the increases of HDL contents, liver CAT activities, thyroid gland weight as results of PTU treatment. In addition, marked hyperplasia of follicular cells with decreases of follicular colloid contentsand sizes were demonstrated at histopathological inspections. However, these PTU-induced histopathological changes related to hypothyroidism were dramatically decreased by treatment of both different dosages of GR extract, respectively Conclusions : This study suggest that GR extracts have favorable effects on the thyroid hormone productions with beneficial effects on the hypothyroidism mediated by the modulatory effects on the antioxidant defense system.
