  • This paper considers the problem of determining standard product sizes. A customer, who does not find his size, may purchase rather larger or smaller one, but the purchasing desire decreases as the difference between the required and the prepared increases. Introducing a potential demand distribution and a loss function, which reflects how much the purchasing desire chantes according to the difference, we sormulate the problem and suggest a procedure to determine the optimal standard sizes minimizing the loss. Numerical examples are presented to explain the result.

  • In current coordinate measuring machine practice, there are no commonly accepted sample sizes for estimating form errors which have a statistical confidence. Practically, sample size planning is important for the geometrical tolerance inspection using a coordinate measuring machine. We determine and validate appropriate sample sizes for form error estimation. Also, we develop form error estimation methods with certain confidence levels based on the obtained sample sizes in various form errors: straightness, flatness, circularity, and cylindericity.

  • The demands for mobile communication service are growing rapidly. In heavily populated areas, cell split is unavoidable to increase the capacity of the cellular system. Cell splitting makes a cellular system to have mixed cell sizes. For cell planning, it is necessary to analyze the reverse link capacity of a CDMA cellular system with mixed cell sizes. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate the reverse link capacity of a CDMA cellular system with mixed cell sizes. When a macro cell is split into three micro cells, as an example, we calculate the reverse link capacities for the three micro cells and the neighboring macro cells. The results show that as the radius of a micro cell decreases, the reverse link capacity of the micro cell increases, while those of the neighboring macro cells decrease.

  • Design of drawing dies used in real industrial environments. It was designed by CAD software in many small & medium companies, but many products require various types, and sizes. Therefore, many companies are required to reduce process time and design mistakes. In this paper, for the automatic design of drawing dies, Design process considered that easy to team and use. which are used with Visual LISP/DCL language in a commercial CAD package, AutoCAD. It has adopted GUI in design system, and has applied DCL language. The system is based on the knowledge base system which is involved a lot of expert's know-how We have built database of design type and detail sizes. The automatic design system requires basic product type and sizes. Then the system accesses to the database and find out sizes by comparing with input parameters and generate drawing dies file.

  • It is important to consider an effect of concrete member sizes when estimating the ACI rectangular stress block of a reinforced concrete flexural member. However, the experimental data and analytical analyses are still not available for a proper evaluation. For all types of loading conditions, the trend is that the size of an ACI rectangular stress block tends to change when the member sizes change. In this paper, the size variations of strength coefficients for ACI rectangular stress block and actual stress distribution have been studied. Results of a series of C-shaped specimens subjected to axial compressive load and bending moment were adopted from references 1 and 2. The analysis results show that the effect of specimen sizes on strength coefficients for ACI rectangular stress block and actual stress distribution of concrete member was apparent. Thus, the results suggest that the current strength criteria based design practice should be reviewed.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a brassiere sizing chart for elderly women. It is found that there is no direct linear relationship between cup size and under bust girth from the analsis of breast measurements. These 2 factors(under bust girth and cup size) were chosen as 2 axes of brassiere size chart. A loss function was used to determined intervals of bust girth and cup size of size chart, because the loss function introduces the concept of frequency to size chart for better customer's satisfaction. From the dual distribution table whose intervals had been determinde by a loss function. The 15 sizes, which had more than 2% of appearance were suggested for brassiere size chart. The suggested brassierc sizes covened 87.6% of all subjects. Considering that KS brassiere size thart consisting of 32 sizes covers 88.5%, the suggested brassiere size chart would be considered quite feasible. Also is suggested supply reference measurement chart relevant to brassiere manufacturing for 10 most frequent sizes.

  • Automotive brake pads with four different sizes of zircon particles (average sizes of 1㎛, 6㎛, 75㎛, and 140㎛, respectively) were investigated to evaluate the size effect of abrasive particles on friction performance. Results showed that the brake pads with the larger size of zircon particles tend to show better frictional stability and low pad wear. However, the rotor surface was severely abraded in the case of using larger zircon particles. On the other hand, the small zircon particles in the pads showed the fast increase of the coefficient of friction with friction force oscillation and the tendency was pronounced at low sliding speeds. The brake pads with small particle sizes also exhibited strong fade phenomena at elevated temperatures.
