CMOS Chaotic Neuron for Chaotic Neural Networks (카오스 신경망을 위한 CMOS 혼돈 뉴런)

  • Voltage mode chaotic neuron has been designed in integrated circuit and fabricated by using 0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ single poly CMOS technology. The fabricated CMOS chaotic neuron consist of chaotic signal generator and sigmoid output function. This paper presents an analysis of the chaotic behavior in the voltage mode CMOS chaotic neuron. From empirical equations of the chaotic neuron, the dynamical responses such as time series, bifurcation, and average firing rate are calculated. And, results of experiments in the single chaotic neuron and chaotic neural networks by two neurons are shown and compared with the simulated results.

  • Spatial distribution of injected electrons and holes is evaluated by using single-junction charge pumping technique in SONOS(Poly-silicon/Oxide/Nitride/Oxide/Silicon) memory cells. Injected electron are limited to length of ONO(Oxide/Nitride/oxide) region in locally ONO stacked cell, while are spread widely along with channel in fully ONO stacked cell. Hot-holes are trapped into the oxide as well as the ONO stack in locally ONO stacked cell.

Effects of 3-Aminobenzamide on DNA Strand Breaks and Excision Repair in CHO cells Exposed to Methyl Methanesulfonate and Ultraviolet-light (MMS와 자외선을 처리한 CHO세포에 있어서 DNA사 절단과 절제회복에 미치는 3-aminobenzamide의 영향)

  • Amounts of DNA single strand breaks and unscheduled DNA synthesis in CHO cells exposed to MMS were increased in the presence of 3-aminobenzamide, a potent inhibitor of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. However, those in cells irradiated with UV-light were decreased. These results suggest that poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase acts negatively on the MMS-induced base excision repair but positively on the UV-induced nucleotide excision repair. In the combined treatment with MMS and UV-light in the presence of this inhibitor, amounts of strand breaks were just the same as those in the absence of the inhibitor. But those of unscheduled DNA synthesis were increased up to the amount induced by UV-light alone. These results may suggest that poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase affects the incision step of excision repair induced by MMS and UV-light independently, and that it may potentiate the complete cleaving of UV-induced pyrimidine dimers possibly by the repair enzymes which might have been partially inactivated by MMS.

  • Organic thin film EL devices using PPV(poly (p-phenylenevinylene)) as emitter were fabricated on various conditions and structures, their electro-optical properties were estimated. Fabricated EL devices had structures of single layer(ITO(indium tin oxide)/PPV/Mg), double layer(ITO/PVK(poly(N-vinylcarbazole))/PPV/Mg and ITO/PPV/Polymer matrix + PBD/Mg) and three layer (ITO/PVK/PPV/PS(polystyrene)+PBD(butyl-2-(4-bipheny])-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole))/Mg), their electro-optical characteristics were compared with each other. In structure of double layer (ITO/PPV /Polymer matrix + PBD/Mg), the used polymer-matrices were PMMA(poly(methyl methacrylate), PC(polycarbonate), PS and MCH(side chain liquid crystalline homopolymer). When PS as a hole transport layer was used, the luminance characteristics on concentration of PBD was obtained. In results, current-voltage-luminance curves of fabricated devices had characteristics of tunneling effect and the device showed a stable light emitting.

  • PHEAs [${\alpha}$,${\beta}$-poly(2-hydroxyethyl-DL-aspartamides)], a class of poly(amino acid), have been widely studied as biodegradable and biocompatible polymers for potential biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. In this study, we investigated a homogeneous blend of PHEA with poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PNVP) and its semi-IPN (semi-interpenetrating polymer network) gels. Blend films were prepared by a solution casting method. The resulting blends were totally transparent over the whole composition ranges and the single $T_g$, changing monotonously with composition, was observed by DSC to confirm the miscibility between these two polymers. FTIR was used to discuss the possible hydrogen-bonding interaction between polymers. In addition, semi-IPN type gels were prepared by chemical crosslinking of PHEA/PNVP blend solution using hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI) as a crosslinking reagent. The prepared gel was characterized by their swelling property and morphology.

Electro-optical properties of organic EL device (유기 EL 소자의 전기-광학적 특성)

  • Organic EL devices, which have the sing3e-layer structure of ITO(indium-tin-oxide) /PPV(poly(p-phenylene vinylene))/cathode and the double-layer structure of ITO/PVK (poly(N- vinylcarbazole)) /PPV/cathode, were fabricated and their electro-optical properties were investigated. Experimental results, in single-layer structure, shown that the increment of temperature for thermal conversion of PPV film from $140^{\circ}C$ to $260^{\circ}C$ decreases the maximum luminance from $118.8\;cd/m^{2}$(20V) to $21.14\;cd/m^{2}$(28V) and shift the maximum peak of EL spectrum from 500nm to 580nm. The lower the work function of cathode is, the more the luminance and injection current of device. In double-layer structure, as the concentration of PVK solution decreases from 0.5 wt% to 0.05 wt%, the luminance of device increases from $70.71\;cd/m^{2}$(32V) to $152.7\;cd/m^{2}$(26V).

In vitro effects of monophosphoryl lipid A and Poly I:C combination on equine cells

  • Background: Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists have been used as adjuvants to modulate immune responses in both animals and humans. Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the combined effects of the TLR 4 agonist monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL) and the TLR 3 agonist polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (Poly I:C) on equine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MoDCs), and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs). Methods: The PBMCs, MoDCs, and BM-MSCs collected from three mixed breed horses were treated with MPL, Poly I:C, and their combination. The mRNA expression of interferon gamma (IFN-γ), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12p40, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) was determined using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: The combination of MPL and Poly I:C significantly upregulated immunomodulatory responses in equine cells/ without cytotoxicity. The combination induced greater mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines IFN-γ and IL-6 than MPL or Poly I:C stimulation alone in PBMCs. In addition, the combination induced significantly higher mRNA expression of IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-12p40 in MoDCs, and IL-8, MCP-1, and VEGF in BM-MSCs compared to stimulation with a single TLR agonist. Conclusions: The combination of MPL and Poly I:C can be used as a potential adjuvant candidate for vaccines to aid in preventing infectious diseases in horses.

  • Purpose: Small size of recombinant scFv antibody has many advantages such as rapid blood clearances and improved targeting antibodies to tumor region. On the other hand owing to small size, number of amino group is insufficient in conjugation with chelator and fluorescence labeling. This study is to introduce poly lysine tag to the C-terminal end of scFv lym-1 sequence for fluorescence chelator conjugation. Materials and Methods: Poly lysine scFv lym-1 gene, cloned into pET-22b (+) vector, was expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) strain. Antibody purification was performed with Ni-NTA column and then size exclusion column chromatography. Expression and purification levels of poly lysine tagged scFv lym-1 antibody were confirmed by western blot analysis. I-124, I-125, I-131 and Tc-99m were used for radiolabeling of purified poly lysine scFv lym-1. Flow cytometry analysis of FIT( conjugated poly lysine scFv lym-1 was performed for confirmation of immunoreactivity of human Burkitt's lymphoma cells. Results: Poly lysine scFv lym-1 antibody was purified through two steps and identified as molecular weight of 48 KDa. Radiolabeling yields of I-124, I-125, I-131 and Tc-99m into poly lysine scFv lym-1 were >99%, >99%, >95% and >99%, respectively. Flow cytometry analysis of poly lysine scFv and scFv lym-1 was showed similar immunoreactivity to human Burkitt's lymphoma cells. Conclusion: Poly lysine tag was useful for the sufficient number of amino groups to scFv lym-1 antibody for chelator conjugation with minimizing loss of immunoreactivity.
