평면 반일체 고리형 공진기를 이용한 Nd:YAG 레이저의 단방향 단일 모드 발진 (Unidirectonal single-mode operation of a Nd:YAG laser by using a planar semimonolithic ring cavity)

  • 다이오드 레이저 펌핑 Nd:YAG 레이저를 평면 반일체 고리형 공진기를 이용하여 1064 nm 파장에서 단방향, 단일 모드로 발진시켰다. 실험에 사용된 반일체 고리형 공진기는 자기장 내에 놓여진 Nd:YAG 레이저 활성매질, 결정 석영판, 출력경으로 구성되어 전체적으로 광 다이오드로서 작용한다. 이에 대한 고유편광 이론 연구가 수행되었으며, 고유편광 모드에 대한 광손실이 계산되었다. 1.2 W, 809 nm 다이오드 레이저로 펌핑하여 155 mW의 단일 모드 출력을 얻었으며, 이때의 기울기 효율은 17%이었다. 동일한 두 레이저 시스템이 제작되었는데, 그 출력들의 맥놀이 주파수 스펙트럼으로부터 100 kHz 이하의 레이저 선폭을 갖는 것으로 측정되었고, 2 GHz 이상의 영역에서 연속적인 주파수 튜닝이 관측되었다.

Direct Single-stage Power Converter with Power Factor Improvement for Switched Mode Power Supply

  • This paper presents a direct single-stage power converter using single-phase isolated full-bridge converter modules, with inherent power factor correction (PFC) for a 12 kW switched mode power supply (SMPS). The advantages of the proposed converter are its simple control strategy, reduction in number of conversion stage, low input line current harmonics, and improvement in power factor. Analysis of the single-stage converter is carried out in continuous conduction mode of operation. Steady-state analysis of the proposed converter is conducted to obtain converter parameters. A systematic design procedure is also presented for a 12k W converter with a design example. The effect of load variation on SMPS is also studied in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed converter for the complete range of load conditions. A set of power quality indices on input ac mains for an SMPS fed from a single-stage converter is also presented for easy comparison of their performance.

  • Single-mode planar waveguide type UV sensor was fabricated using SU-8 and photochromic dye. Polymer waveguide was fabricated $10{\mu}m$ width and $2{\mu}m$ thickness for single-mode operation. The UV sensor had an absorbance with $0.0396{\sim}0.114$ absorbance/mW respectively when the 5 mm sensing area was irradiated with UV for 3 sec. And sensor had a linear properties by sensing area variation. Proposed single-mode sensor had more excellent properties of UV sensitivity than other UV sensors.

  • At the high speed operation, the high demagnetization voltage can reduce the negative torque, so the output power and efficiency can be improved. In this paper, a novel power converter for single phase SRM with high demagnetization voltage is proposed. A simple passive capacitor circuit is added in the front-end, which consists of three diodes and one capacitor. Based on this passive network, the two capacitors can be connected in series and parallel, so the phase winding of SRM obtains general do-link voltage in excitation mode and the double dc-link voltage in demagnetization mode. The operation modes of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Some computer simulation results is done to verify the performance of proposed converter.

  • The microgrid concept assumes a cluster of loads and microsources operating as a single controllable system that provides a new paradigm for defining the operation of distributed generation. This system can be operated as both grid-connected mode and islanded mode. In other words, the microgrid can be operated to meet their special need; such as economics in steady state and local reliability in islanded mode due to the grid fault. This paper presents the AGC (Automatic Generation Control) method for microgrid with EMS (Energy Management System).

Single-Mode-Based Unified Speech and Audio Coding by Extending the Linear Prediction Domain Coding Mode

  • Unified speech and audio coding (USAC) is one of the latest coding technologies. It is based on a switchable coding structure, and has demonstrated the highest levels of performance for both speech and music contents. In this paper, we propose an extended version of USAC with a single-mode of operation-which does not require a switching system-by extending the linear prediction-coding mode. The main concept of this extension is the adoption of the advantages of frequency-domain coding schemes, such as windowing and transition control. Subjective test results indicate that the proposed scheme covers speech, music, and mixed streams with adequate levels of performance. The obtained quality levels are comparable with those of USAC.

A Low-Power Single Chip Li-Ion Battery Protection IC

  • A fully integrated cost-effective and low-power single chip Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery protection IC (BPIC) for portable devices is presented. The control unit of the battery protection system and the MOSFET switches are integrated in a single package to protect the battery from over-charge, over-discharge, and over-current. The proposed BPIC enters into low-power standby mode when the battery becomes over-discharged. A new auto release function (ARF) is adopted to release the BPIC from standby mode and safely return it to normal operation mode. A new delay shorten mode (DSM) is also proposed to reduce the test time without increasing pin counts. The BPIC implemented in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process occupies an area of $750{\mu}m{\times}610{\mu}m$. With DSM enabled, the measured test time is dramatically reduced from 56.82 s to 0.15 s. The BPIC chip consumes $3{\mu}A$ under normal operating conditions and $0.45{\mu}A$ under standby mode.

  • 850 nm 대역의 발진 파장을 갖는 GaAs/AlGaAs 다중양자우물 레이저 다이오드의 lateral-mode 특성과 이 특성이 출력 광파워 kink에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 이를 위해 전기적-열적-광학적 시뮬레이션을 self-consistent하게 수행하고, 제작된 레이저 다이오드 소자들을 측정하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 높은 출력 파워에서도 single lateral-mode를 유지해서 좋은 beam quality를 유지할 수 있는 최적의 P-cladding 두께를 결정하였다.
