  • This paper presents a system-of-systems (SoS) approach to the formal modeling of a cyber-physical system (CPS) for simulation-based analysis. The approach is based on a convergence technology for modeling and simulation of a highly complex system in which SoS modeling methodology, hybrid systems modeling theory, and simulation interoperation technology are merged. The methodology maps each constituent system of a CPS to a disparate model of either continuous or discrete types. The theory employs two formalisms for modeling of the two model types with formal specification of interfaces between them. Finally, the technology adapts a simulation bus called DEVS BUS whose protocol synchronizes time and exchange messages between subsystems simulation. Benefits of the approach include reusability of simulation models and environments, and simulation-based analysis of subsystems of a CPS in an inter-relational manner.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation-based education on communication and clinical judgment in nursing students and nurses. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Seven databases were searched to obtain articles published in Korean or English. Of 12,864 articles reviewed, 36 were included in a systematic review and 23 in a meta-analysis. To estimate the size of the effects of simulation-based education, a meta-analysis was performed using the R package meta program. The risk of bias was assessed using RoB 2.0 and ROBINS-I. Results: The effect sizes (ES) of simulation-based education on communication and clinical judgment were ES=0.77, 95% confidence interval (95% CI)=0.43 to 1.12 on communication-related variables and ES=1.84, 95% CI=1.03 to 2.65 on clinical judgment. Conclusion: Simulation-based education for nursing students and nurses is useful for improving their communication and clinical judgment. Thus, it is necessary to develop and apply simulation-based education programs for nursing students and nurses to improve their abilities in communications and clinical judgment.

  • The dynamic simulation of machine tools and motion control systems has been widely used for optimization, design verification, control design, etc. There are three main streams in dynamic simulation: structural dynamic analysis based onthe finite element method, dynamic motion analysis based on equations of motion, and control system analysis based on transfer functions. Generally, one of these dynamic simulation methods is chosen and employed for specific purposes. In this study, an integrated dynamic simulation is introduced, in which the structure, motion, and control dynamics are combined together. Commercially well-known software is used in the integrated dynamic simulation: ANSYS, ADAMS, and Matlab/Simulink. Using the integrated dynamic simulation, the dynamics of a magnetic bearing stage is analyzed and the causes of oscillation and noise are identified. A controller design for suppressing a flexible dynamic mode is carried out and verified through the integrated dynamic simulation.

  • Purpose: This systematic literature review and meta-analysis explored extended reality (XR)-based pediatric nursing simulation programs and analyzed their effectiveness. Methods: A literature search was conducted between May 1 and 30, 2022 in the following electronic databases: MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and CINAHL. The search period was from 2000 to 2022. In total, 6,095 articles were reviewed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 14 articles were selected for the final content analysis and 10 for the meta-analysis. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis program. Results: XR-based pediatric nursing simulation programs have increased since 2019. Studies using virtual reality with manikins or high-fidelity simulators were the most common, with six studies. The total effect size was statistically significant at 0.84 (95% confidence interval=0.50-1.19, z=4.82, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the findings, we suggest developing standardized guidelines for the operation of virtual pediatric nursing simulation education and practice. Simultaneously, the application of more sophisticated research designs for effect measurement and the combined applications of various virtual simulation methods are needed to validate the most effective simulation methodology.

  • To perform the Maritime Safety Audi Scheme, $10^{-4}$ was constantly applied without adjustment when evaluating the proximity of the fairway. The necessity of applying the different aberrancy probabilities from the different proximity of the fairway depending on the shape of the route and the size of the ship was validated using marine simulations. Marine simulation was performed to evaluate the validity of statistical analysis-based aberrancy probability according to the different shapes of routes and ship size presented in the previous study. As results, the validity of the criterion of the statistical analysis-based aberrancy probability was confirmed by comparing with the results of simulation-based aberrancy probabilities. The results support that the aberrancy probabilities by the types of a vessel could be different based on the type and size of vessels. The results motivate that further investigation is required to find the reasonable criteria of the aberrancy probabilities for the maritime traffic safety audit according to the fairway shape and the size of the vessel.

  • This paper presents the optimal design method of the train repair facility based on the simulation analysis. The train is divided into the power car, motorized car and passenger car for the simulation process analysis and train repair facility is composed of each subsystems such as a blast, dry and wash workshop. In simulation analysis, we consider the critical (dependent) factors and design (independent) factors for the optimal design. Therefore, a simulation optimization uses Evolution Strategy (ES) in order to find the optimal design factors. Experimental results indicate that simulation design factors are sufficient to satisfy the conditions of dependent variables. The proposed analysis method demonstrates that simulation design factors determined by the simulation optimization are appropriate for real design factors in a real situation and the accuracy and confidence for the simulation results are increased.

  • There have been many accidents of passenger ships on the sea and they have caused a big loss of human lives. Maritime Safety Committee(MSC) of International Maritime Organization(IMO) made evacuation analysis of Ro-Ro passenger ships mandatory in order to save as many lives as possible at the time of accident. But this is a temporary regulation and HSC/IMO ties to introduce a performance-based regulation to improve the effect of regulation. Simulation-based evacuation analysis is the basis of performance-based regulation. In this paper, we performed a simulation-based evacuation analysis on a passenger ship, which is usually used in the plying between land and islands in Korea, with EXODUS system. Through inspecting the results from this analysis in more detail, we can make a proposal to improve the safety of passenger ship. Finally we describe the features of IMEX(Intelligent Model for Extrication Simulation), a new evacuation model being developed in KRISO.

  • In order to provide theoretical analysis for the active roll stabilizer (ARS), the simulation model based on AMESim is developed in the paper. The simplified vehicle rolling motion model is derived firstly, and then the entire ARS control system model is constructed. Furthermore, the simulation is implemented to confirm the roll control effect. The simulation results show that the derived model can be used as theoretical analysis for developing components of ARS control system.

  • The EDISON is a platform that supports numerical analysis for problem solving in computational science and engineering. We provide a cloud service for users, and provide an environment to access and execution of the simulation service on the web. For now, the EDISON platform provides simulation services for eight applied field on computational science engineering. Users can check the numerical analysis result by web in the computational science and engineering platform. In addition, various services such as community activity with other researchers, and the configuration of simulation environment by user 's needs can be provided. A representative service of the EDISON platform is a web-based simulation service that performs numerical analysis for problem solving of various computational science and engineering. Currently, EDISON platform provides workbench simulation service. It is the web-based simulation execution environment, and result analysis to provide simulation regardless of various personal computing resource or environment in each numerical analysis. In this paper, we build an interface for pre and post processor that can be used in conjunction with the workbench-based simulation service provided by EDISON platform. We provide a development environment with interface that is implemented by applying a pre and post processor optimized for the simulation service. According to simulation and execution are performed by linking the new workbench-based simulation service to the pre and post processor.

  • Physically based landslide susceptibility analysis has been recognized as an effective analysis method because it can consider the mechanism of landslide occurrence. The physically based analysis used the slope geometry and geotechnical properties of slope materials as input. However, when the physically based approach is adopted in regional scale area, the uncertainties were involved in the analysis procedure due to spatial variation and complex geological conditions, which causes inaccurate analysis results. Therefore, probabilistic method have been used to quantify these uncertainties. However, the uncertainties caused by lack of information are not dealt with the probabilistic analysis. Therefore, fuzzy set theory was adopted in this study because the fuzzy set theory is more effective to deal with uncertainties caused by lack of information. In addition, the vertex method and Monte Carlo simulation are coupled with the fuzzy approach. The proposed approach was used to evaluate the landslide susceptibility for a regional study area. In order to compare the analysis results of the proposed approach, Monte Carlo simulation as the probabilistic analysis and the deterministic analysis are used to analyze the landslide susceptibility for same study area. We found that Fuzzy Monte Carlo simulation showed the better prediction accuracy than the probabilistic analysis and the deterministic analysis.
