  • The existing literature has witnessed the importance of productivity assessment and deducing factors affecting it. However, yet many models have shown limitations in practical applications in actual construction sites for process planning due to uncertainty and lack of data. This research presents a productivity assessment and database generation framework using simulation and compares the results with RSMeans to derive appropriate equipment combinations alternatives for earthwork operations. Data of 15 different conditions was collected from 5 different construction sites. Prediction accuracy above 90% were achieved for the simulation models with average error rate of 7.4%. The construction productivity assessment framework presented in this study is expected to be highly applicable to operation planning for earthwork operations.

  • EDISON is a web-based platform that provides easy and convenient use of simulation software on high-performance computers. One of the most important roles of a computational science platform, such as EDISON, is to post-process and represent the simulation results data so that the user can easily understand the data. We interviewed EDISON users and collected requirements for post-processing and represent of simulation results, which included i) flexible data representation, ii) supporting various data representation components, and iii) flexible and easy development of view template. In previous studies, it was difficult to develop or contribute data representation components, and the view templates were not able to be shared or recycled. This causes a problem that makes it difficult to create ecosystems for the representation tool development of numerous simulation software. EDISON-VIEW is a framework for post-processing and representing simulation results produced from the EDISON platform. This paper proposes various methods used in the design and development of the EDISON-VIEW framework to solve the above requirements and problems. We have verified its usefulness by applying it to simulation software in various fields such as material, computational fluid dynamics, computational structural dynamics, and computational chemistry.

  • Simulation is the work that identifies the characteristics of some problem through the simulated experiments. During the experiments it is frequently required to change or replace the simulation models, algorithms, or input/output data. Especially, in the case of the simulation works performed by replacing algorithms, if a replaceable component that implements a specific algorithm is not correct with respect to its functionality it is very difficult to carry out the simulation works successfully. In this paper, we suggest a test framework that verifies functional correctness of the replaceable component in the software-based GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) simulation environments. When a component is replaced, this framework enables us to properly execute the functional test for the component according to its context.

  • To correspond with the unpredictable future tactical environment, Ive expanded the application of M&S(Modeling & Simulation) that is more scientific and more economic in a field of weapon system development process. This paper describes experience in development of ADSF(Air Defense Simulation Framework) that supports not only HLA(High Level Architecture) which is an international standard in M&S but also TCP/IP as well as real-time distributed simulation. ADSF has been applied to the M-SAM(Medium Range Surface to Air Missile) System Simulator, and satisfying test results through GPS(Global Positioning System) timer has been acquired. As a result, an ADSF which is able to support HLA and TCP/IP as veil as precise real-time simulation has been successfully made. we were in need or a real-time simulation engine to support Air Defense System Simulators that were consisted of several subsystems.

  • In this study, the system level network simulation is considered with adaptive array antenna in CDMA mobile communication system. A network simulation framework is implemented based on IS-95A/B system to consider dynamic handoff, system level network behavior, and deploying strategy into the overall CDMA mobile communication network under adaptive array algorithm. Its simulation model, such as vector channel model, adaptive beam forming antenna model, handoff model, and power control model, are described in detail with simulation block. In order to maximize SINR of received signal at antenna, maximin algorithm is particularly considered, and it is computed at each simulation snap shot with SINR based power control and handoff algorithm. Graphic user interface in this system level network simulator is also implemented to define the simulation environments and to represent simulation results on real mapping system. This paper also shows some features of simulation framework and simulation results.

  • A molecular dynamics simulation study on the structure and dynamics of Na+ ions in non-rigid dehydrated Na12-A zeolite framework at 298.15 K was conducted using the same method reported in previous studies on rigid and non-rigid Na12-A zeolite frameworks. The agreement between the experimental and calculated results for the zeolite-A framework atoms of structural parameters for non-rigid dehydrated Na12-A zeolite is generally quite good, and for the adsorbed Na+ions the agreement is acceptable. The calculated bond lengths are generally in good agreement with the experimental results and other theoretical data. The calculated IR spectrum by Fourier transform of the total dipole moment autocorrelation function shows two major peaks around 2700 cm-1 and 7000 cm-1. The former appeared in the calculated IR spectra of non-rigid zeolite-A framework only system and the latter remains unexplained except, perhaps, indicating a new formation of a vibrational mode of the framework due to the adsorption of Na+ ions. The peaks above 6200-6800 cm-1 in non-rigid dehydrated Nal2-A zeolite are much larger than those in non-rigid dehydrated H12-A zeolite.

  • This paper presents a bottleneck detection framework using simulation approach in a wafer FAB (Fabrication). In a semiconductor manufacturing industry, wafer FAB facility contains various equipment and dozens kinds of wafer products. The wafer FAB has many characteristics, such as re-entrant processing flow, batch tools. The performance of a complex manufacturing system (i.e. semiconductor wafer FAB) is mainly decided by a bottleneck. This paper defines the problem of a bottleneck process and propose a simulation based framework for bottleneck detection. The bottleneck is not the viewpoint of a machine, but the viewpoint of a step with the highest WIP in its upstream buffer and severe fluctuation. In this paper, focus on the classification of bottleneck steps and then verify the steps are not in a starvation state in last, regardless of dispatching rules. By the proposed framework of this paper, the performance of a wafer FAB is improved in on-time delivery and the mean of minimum of cycle time.

  • Smart devices linked to high speed networks enable us to obtain location dependent data at anywhere and anytime. In this environment, a wireless data broadcast system can deal with enormous data request from a great number of clients effectively. In order to set up an efficient wireless data broadcast system, various data scheduling and indexing schemes have been proposed. However, a simulation framework to evaluate the schemes is not reported yet. In this paper, we design and develop a simulation framework for a wireless data broadcast system. The developed simulation framework can evaluate quickly a wireless data broadcast system and has scalability to adopt various data scheduling and indexing schemes for wireless data broadcasting.

  • Simulation Based Acquisition(SBA) which pursues to use M&S in manner of integrated collaboration is being applied in defense acquisition. To accomplish SBA efficiently, reusability, reconfiguration and scalability of M&S components are important factors. To avoid constraints caused by coupling of components, PBA is designed to add and configure components easily by enabling independent interface and interaction among the components and provides common development infrastructure also. And PBA framework is implemented to support the development of a simulator which uses the PBA. It is expected that deployment of PBA framework as common development infrastructure can raise efficiency of M&S works.

  • We describe a heterogeneous simulation framework, so called DEVS-HLA, in which conventional simulation models and the DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) models are interoperable. DEVS-HLA conceptually consists of three layers: model layer, DEVS BUS layer, and HLA (High Level Architecture) layer. The model layer has a collection of heterogeneous simulation models, such as DEVS, CSIM, SLAM, and so on, to represent various aspects of a complex system. The DEVS BUS layer provides a virtual software bus, DEVS BUS, so that such simulation models can communicate with each other. Finally, the HLA layer is employed as a communication infrastructure, which supports several good features for distributed simulation. The DEVS BUS has been implemented on the HLA/RTI (Run-Time Infrastructure) and a simple example of a flexible manufacturing system has been developed to validate the DEVS-HLA.
