Reverse engineering is defined as the process where the internal structures and dynamics of a given system are inferred and analyzed from external observations and relevant knowledge. The first part of this paper surveys existing techniques for biosystem reverse engineering. Network structure inference techniques such as Correlation Matrix Construction (CMC), Boolean network and Bayesian network-based methods are explained. After the numeric and logical simulation techniques are briefly described, several representative working software tools were introduced. The second part presents our component-based software architecture for biosystem reverse engineering. After three design principles are established, a loosely coupled federation architecture consisting of 11 autonomous components is proposed along with their respective functions.
This paper proposes an implementation of DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) and IDCT (Inverse DCT) using a fast DCT algorithm with shift and addition operations instead of multiplications Based on the proposed algorithm, a new VLSI architecture for the DCT and the IDCT is proposed. It shows modularity , regularity and capability for multiprocessing. Its performance is also simulated by a simulation software, "Compass". The results of the simulation provide the quality of decompression images, the increase in processing speed, representing the superiority of the proposed architecture.
Recently, various particle based simulation techniques, which solve the Navier Stokes and continuity equations, have been developed and applied to complicated engineering problems. However, although progress is being made on their visualization or rendering techniques, these are still insufficient. In this study, to render a smooth configuration for a free surface, a rendering technique was developed that included the generation of density fields from the location information for simulated particles and the creation model for a polygonal surface. The developed rendering technique was applied to the visualization of a dynamic free surface flow interacting with a structure using a particle based simulation technique.

A realistic numerical simulation technology using a Lagrangian Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) model was combined with a fracture algorithm to predict the fluid-ice-structure interaction. The failure of ice was modeled as the tensile fracture of elastic material by applying a novel FSI model based on the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method. To verify the developed fracture algorithm, a series of numerical simulations for 3-point bending tests with an ice beam were performed and compared with the experiments carried out in an ice room. For application of the developed FSI model, a dropping water droplet hitting a cantilever ice beam was simulated with and without the fracture algorithm. The simulation showed that the effects of fracture which can occur in the process of a FSI simulation can be studied.
To manage a cluster of distributed server systems, a number of management aspects should be considered in terms of configuration management, fault management, performance management, and user management. System performance monitoring and reporting take an important role for performance and fault management. In this paper, we present distributed system architecture modeling of a performance monitoring and reporting tool. Modeling architecture of four subsystems are introduced: node agent, data collection, performance management & report, and DB schema. The performance-related information collected from distributed servers are categorized into performance counters, event data for system status changes, service quality, and system configuration data. In order to analyze those performance information, we use a number of ways to evaluate data corelation. By using some results from a real site of a company and from simulation of artificial workload, we show the example of performance collection and analysis. Since our report tool detects system fault or node component failure and analyzes performances through resource usage and service quality, we are able to provide information for server load balancing, in short term view, and the cause of system faults and decision for system scale-out and scale-up, in long term view.

To hoist construction workers to their working space is directly related to the productivity of building construction since hoisting tasks are carried out during the working time. In order to reduce hoisting time in the condition that the number of construction lift-cars is limited, various types of the lift-cars group operation plans such as zoning and sky-lobby have been applied. However, previous researches on them cannot be compared in the performance due to their methodological limitation, discrete-event simulation methods, and cannot be find better solution to increase the performance. Therefore, this research proposed the simulation-based optimization model combining the agent-based simulation method to the scatter search optimization methods. Using the proposed model, this paper carried out the comparison analysis on the performance of typical operation plans and also optimize an operation plans by controlling the service range of lift-cars, the size and number of service zones. In this case study, it is verified that better alternatives than typical operation plans can be exists and it is possible to increase the productivity of building construction.

The current automotive industry is transitioning from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs), adopting a mixed assembly production approach to respond to fluctuating demand. While mixed assembly production offers the advantages of lower investment costs and flexibility in responding to changing demands, the supply of EV components requires more extensive provisioning compared to ICE vehicle components, potentially leading to unexpected issues such as congestion of transport vehicles. This study proposes a digital twin system architecture that uses Discrete Event Simulation (DES) and Business Intelligence (BI) tools to specifically address logistics challenges. The proposed architecture facilitates real-time, data-driven decision making across three layers; Data source, Simulation, and BI. It was implemented in factories engaged in the mixed assembly production of ICE and EV vehicles. The simulation challenges involve a tier 1 vendor supplying parts to Korean automobile manufacturers that produce both ICE and EV parts. A total of 240 scenarios were created to run the simulations. The deployment of the proposed architecture demonstrates its capability to quickly respond to diverse experimental situations and promptly identify potential issues.
The purpose of this study was the implementation of a simulation for a subsea production system. This subsea production system is installed under environments with high pressure and low temperature. Most of the processes for oil and gas production occur in the subsea equipment. Therefore, an understanding and study of subsea production systems is very difficult because people cannot directly observe the processes occurring in the subsea production system. A simulation system can be a useful solution for this difficult problem. In this research, information models and a 3-D graphic model of the subsea equipment were built using the object-oriented technology and 3-D CAD. The entire system was implemented with the help of simulation software, 3-DVIA Virtools. The simulation system for the subsea production system was tested using several production process scenarios. The results of the tests showed that the simulation system is very useful for understanding a subsea production system and could be a good educational tool.
For reasons such as global warming, depletion of fossil fuels and the danger of nuclear energy the research and development of renewable energy is actively underway. Wind energy has advantages over another renewable energy in terms of location requirements, energy efficiency and reliability. Nowadays the research and development area is expanded to offshore because it can supply more wind reliability and free from noise pollution. In this study, the monopile offshore wind turbine transportation and installation (T&I) process are investigated. In addition, the schedule and cost for the process are estimated by discrete event simulation. For the simulation, simulation models for various means of T&I are developed. The optimum T&I execution plan with shortest duration and lowest cost can be found by using different mission start day and T&I means.
