임의의 임피던스를 갖는 단순현가방식 가선계의 파동현상 (Wave Propagation Characteristics along a Simple Catenary with Arbitrary Impedance Condition)

  • The characteristics of wave propagation along a catenary depend on various impedance conditions; i.e., spatial impedance of catenary, impedance of boundaries. In this study, wave propagation along a simple catenary system is studied with arbitrary impedance conditions such as impedance of pantograph, boundary, catenary etc. Seven coupled equations which determine the characteristics of wave propagation along catenary system have been derived and numerically solved. Results demonstrate the role of each impedance condition in the dynamics of catenary system, i.e. the way in which the conditions affect waves on catenary as well as contact force of pantograph. The formulation and suggested solution method can be certainly used for desinging an optimal catenary system for a given pantograph.

  • Simple Genetic Algorithm(SGA) proposed by J. H. Holland is a population-based optimization method based on the principle of the Darwinian natural selection. The theoretical foundations of GA are the Schema Theorem and the Building Block Hypothesis. Although GA does well in many applications as an optimization method, still it does not guarantee the convergence to a global optimum in GA-hard problems and deceptive problems. Therefore as an alternative scheme, there is a growing interest in a co-evolutionary system, where two populations constantly interact and co-evolve. In this paper we propose an extended schema theorem associated with a schema co-evolutionary algorithm(SCEA), which explains why the co-evolutionary algorithm works better than SGA. The experimental results show that the SCEA works well in optimization problems including deceptive functions.

  • In this paper, a simple design of a DOB (Disturbance Observer) for attitude control of a quad-rotor system is presented. A modified DOB structure from the conventional DOB is introduced to eliminate time-delay in the calculation. The proposed simple modification in the DOB configuration provides an efficiency in the calculation of the disturbance term such that the delayed calculation is not required. The performance of the modified DOB is evaluated through simulation studies. To confirm the simulation results, experimental studies of the attitude control of a quad-rotor system are conducted.

구속연산자에 의한 보정 시스템의 관측성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Observability of Calibration System with a Constraint Oprerator)

  • This paper studies the observability of calibration system with a constraint movement by a constraint operator. The calibration system with the constraint movement need only simple sensing device to check whether the constraint movements are completed within an established range. However, it yields the concern about the poor parameter observability due to the constraint movements. This paper uses the QR-decomposition to find the optimal calibration configurations maximizing the linear independence of rows of a observation matrix. The number of identifiable parameters are examined by the rank of the observation matrix, which represents the parameter observability. The method is applied to a parallel typed machining center and the calibration results are presented. These results verify that the calibration system with low-cost indicators and simple planar table is accurate as well as reliable.

A Numerical Study on the Reduction of Water Hammering in a Simple Water Supply Pipe System

  • A numerical study has been conducted to characterize the transient pressure in a simple water supply pipe system with an air chamber by utilizing a commercial code that employs the method of characteristics. Some results produced for validation in the study agree quite well with the previously reported. Several parameters are than varied. Among them are the valve closure time, the wave speed, the static pressure, the polytropic exponent, the air chamber volume, the diameter and the shape of orifice in the air chamber, etc, while the water temperature and velocity are kept constant at $20^\circ{C}$ and 0.8m/s, respectively. Results reported in this parametric study may be useful to understand the unsteady behavior of the system.

힘 센서를 이용하지 않는 혼합형 햅틱 마스터 시스템의 개발 (Development of a Hybrid Haptic Master System Without Using a Force Sensor)

  • A hybrid type master system is proposed to take the advantage of the link mechanism and magnetic levitation mechanism without using a force sensor. Two different types of electromagnetic actuators, moving coil type and moving magnet types are used to drive the master system which is capable of 4-DOF actuation. It is designed that the rotation motions about x-y axis are decoupled and the whole system is represented by simple dynamic equations. The force reflection is achieved by using the simple relation between the force and applied current and position. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show its performance.

  • This study presents a heuristic algorithm for buffer allocation in FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System). The buffers, which are finite resources in FMS, are responsible for improvement of an overall system utilization. But, until now, the study for buffer allocation in FMS are rarely conducted because of the complexity in FMS. Most studies for buffer allocation had been addressed to the simple production line system. The presented algorithm uses a simulation for the description of system complexity and uses a genetic algorithm for finding better buffer allocation. Lastly, we compare performance of the presented algorithm with that of a simple heuristic, and analyze the experiment results.

  • A localization system to estimate the position as well as movement direction of mobile robots is proposed in this paper. This system implements a camera fixed on a robot and color patches evenly distributed and mounted on the planar ceiling. Different permutations of patch colors code information about robot localization. Thus, extraction of color information from patch images leads to estimation of robot position. Additionally, simple geometric indicators are combined with patch colors to estimate robot's movement direction. Since only the distribution of patch colors has to be known, the analysis of patch images to is relatively fast and simple. The proposed robot localization system has been successfully tested for navigation of sample mobile robot. Obtained test results indicate the robustness and reliability of proposed technique for robot navigation.

  • This paper presents a lecture note of pu method for power system analysis. The author tries to help students in class better understand the fundamental of pu calculation using a very simple DC circuit. And a voltage drop calculation by pu method for a distribution system is given to help understand the importance of the vector reference in AC circuit analysis. A short current calculation by pu method for a power system with a generator, transformer and transmission line is also presented to show how pu calculation can be applied to real power systems, in which all the data are the ones currently being used by KEPCO and other industrial sites.

  • The dynamics of the interaction between the wheel and rail must be considered when investigating the application of control strategy to a traction motor for high speed railway system. So this paper describes a dynamics model of the wheel rail adhesion characteristics and simple adhesion control strategy. Simulations are performed on the model of korea-high speed railway system using SIMULINK. With simple adhesion control strategy advanced characteristics of the system is showed in aspects of driveability.
