Nonparametric Bayesian Multiple Comparisons for Geometric Populations

  • A nonparametric Bayesian method for calculating posterior probabilities of the multiple comparison problem on the parameters of several Geometric populations is presented. Bayesian multiple comparisons under two different prior/ likelihood combinations was studied by Gopalan and Berry(1998) using Dirichlet process priors. In this paper, we followed the same approach to calculate posterior probabilities for various hypotheses in a statistical experiment with a partition on the parameter space induced by equality and inequality relationships on the parameters of several geometric populations. This also leads to a simple method for obtaining pairwise comparisons of probability of successes. Gibbs sampling technique was used to evaluate the posterior probabilities of all possible hypotheses that are analytically intractable. A numerical example is given to illustrate the procedure.

The Ramp-Rate Constraint Effects on the Generators' Equilibrium Strategy in Electricity Markets

  • In this paper, we investigate how generators' ramp-rate constraints may influence their equilibrium strategy formulation. In the market model proposed in this study, the generators' ramp-rate constraints are explicitly represented. In order to fully characterize the inter-temporal nature of the ramp-rate constraints, a dynamic game model is presented. The subgame perfect Nash equilibrium is adopted as the solution of the game and the backward induction procedure for the solution of the game is designed in this paper. The inter-temporal nature of the ramp-rate constraints results in the Markov property of the game, and we have found that the Markov property of the game significantly simplifies the subgame perfect Nash equilibrium characterization. Finally, a simple electricity market numerical illustration is presented for the successful application of the approach proposed.

  • Almost all buildings/infrastructures made of composite materials are fabricated without proper design. Unlike airplane or automobile parts, prototype test is impossible. One cannot destroy 10 story buildings or 100-meter long bridges. People try to build 100-story buildings or several thousand meter long bridges. In order to realize "composites in construction", the following subjects must be studied in detail, for his design: Concept optimization, Simple method of analysis, Folded plate theory, Size effects in failure, and Critical frequency. Unlike the design procedure with conventional materials, his design should include material design, selection of manufacturing methods, and quality control methods, in addition to the fabrication method.on method.

  • Rubber is used as a primary suspension component in a vehicle or a mechanical structure. The aim of this study is to establish a procedure for measuring the material properties of rubber and to analyze the differences of material properties of virgin rubber and heat aged rubber. The effect of mechanical conditioning was shown and included in the procedures of tensile. compression. simple shear. and pure shear tests. In addition. using engine oil was recommended for compression test in order not to have barrelling. Moreover, based on the material properties of vil·gin rubber and heat aged rubber. equations of C10 and IRHD were proposed as a function of heat aging temperature and time.

  • Rubber material properties and useful life evaluation are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber components. In this paper, the evaluation of characteristics and useful life prediction of rubber component for elevator cabin were experimentally investigated. The material test and accelerated heat-aging test were carried. Rubber material constants were obtained by curve fittings of simple tension, pure shear and bi-axial tension test data. Heat aging test results changes as the threshold are used for assessment of the useful life and time to threshold value were plotted against reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. By using the rubber material and component test several useful life prediction equations for rubber component were proposed. Predicted useful life of rubber component for elevator cabin agreed fairly with the experimental lives.

  • In this paper, a simple parallel compiler of a sequential loop is presented. This is a procedure for the automatic conversion of a sequential loop into a nested parallel DOALL loops at compile time. For this. the source program of Parafrase II parallel compiler is analyzed and a new general method the extracting parallelism in order to parallel processing effectively in nested loop is implemented.

  • SOAP is a protocol used for information exchange in distributed computing environment and SOAP defines mechanisms for message transferring between distributed system and remote procedure call/response process. This SOAP is able to be used independently on operating systems and program languages because it uses only a text-based XML for protocol. Therefor ebXML that is a standard for E-Commerce adopts SOAP for message exchange. In this paper, we developed Message Broker System based on SOAP. By this Message Broker System we can more easily exchange messages for B2B. Accordingly we can manage and integrate a lots of business partners.

  • In this paper, it is demonstrated that, with the distribution of lowestorder concentrated (discrete) singularities of delta function nature, the solution to the linear free surface problem can be obtaianed with a remarkable degree of accuracy. The linearized bounday valve problem is formulated subject to boundary conditions for the determination of strengths of singularities; the simple sources above (not on) the free surface and the vortices on the body surface. Three sample calculations were performed; the flow about a submerged vortex of known strength, the flow past a submerged circular cylinder, and the flow around a hydrofoil section. The convergence of the numerical procedure is achieved with a relatively small number of elements, The final results are compared with those of the publi¬shed works, and are considered very satisfactory.

  • Until now, the tensile properties of materials can be obtained just in accordance with conventional tensile testing methods which are described in several standards such as ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard and BS (British Standard). For some cases including on-service facility materials, however, the standard testing methods cannot be applicable due to the destructive testing procedure and specimen size requirement. Therefore, simple, non-destructive and advanced indentation technique was proposed. This test measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation and fracture. In this paper, the research trend of non-destructive evaluation of tensile properties using AIS (advanced indentation system) and its application fields are reviewed and discussed.

  • This article develops model of the nonstationary state behavior of the multiechelon spare parts provisioning systems. This study is concerned with a problem of determining the near optimal requirements level of the spare parts, especially Concurrent Spare Parts(CSP). CSP is supplied with the procurement of new equipment system, and is used to sustain the equipment without resupply during the initial coverage period. We consider this situation as a multiechelon inventory model with several bases and one depot. And we assume an equipment system which consists of many types of parts would grounded if one of the parts fail. Also this multiechelon CSP problem is considering the nonstationary poisson failure process and nonstationary exponential repair process in a dynamic environment. We develop an efficient computational procedure to find the near optimal number of spare parts minimizing the total expected cost, while achieving the required system availability. Finally we present a simple example of suggested method.
