  • The performance of one-particle stochastic Lagrangian models for passive tracer dispersion are evaluated against measurements in horizontally-homogeneous neutrally-stratified atmospheric surface layer. State-of-the-technology models as well as classical Langevin models, all in class of well mixed models are numerically implemented for inter-model comparison study. Model results (far-downstream asymptotic behavior and vertical profiles of the time averaged concentrations, concentration fluxes, and concentration fluctuations) are compared with the reported measurements. The results are: 1) the far-downstream asymptotic trends of all models except Reynolds model agree well with Garger and Zhukov's measurements. 2) profiles of the average concentrations and vertical concentration fluxes by all models except Reynolds model show good agreement with Raupach and Legg's experimental data. Reynolds model produces horizontal concentration flux profiles most close to measurements, yet all other models fail severely. 3) With temporally correlated emissions, one-particle models seems to simulate fairly the concentration fluctuations induced by plume meandering, when the statistical random noises are removed from the calculated concentration fluctuations. Analytical expression for the statistical random noise of one-particle model is presented. This study finds no indication that recent models of most delicate theoretical background are superior to the simple Langevin model in accuracy and numerical performance at well.

  • Simple recurrence relations for calculating completion times of various storage polices (unlimited, intermediate storages(FIS), finite intermediate storages(FIS), no intermediate storage(NIS), zero wait(ZW) for serial multi-product multi-unit processes are suggested. Not only processing times but also transfer times, set-up (clean-up) times of units and set-up times of storages are considered. Optimal scheduling strategies with zero transfer times and zero set-up times had been developed as a mixed integer linear programniing(MILP) formulation for several intermediate storage policies. In this paper those with non-zero transfer times, non-zero set-up times of units and set-up times of storages are newly proposed as a mixed integer nonlinear programming(MINLP) formulation for various storage polices (UIS, NIS, FIS, and ZW). Several examples are tested to evaluate the robustness of this strategy and reasonable computation times.

  • Vendor-managed inventory policy(VMIP) is a supply-chain initiative where the supplier is authorized to manage inventories of items at retail locations. In VMIP, the supplier monitors sales and stock information at retail locations and makes decisions of inventory replenishment and transportation simultaneously. VMIP has been known as an effective supply chain strategy that can realize many of benefits obtainable only in a fully integrated supply chain. However, VMIP does not always lead to lower the supply chain cost. It sometimes generates the total supply chain cost higher than the traditional retailer-managed inventory policy (RMIP). In this paper, we perform a comparison study on RMIP and VMIP in the retail supply chain which consists of a single supplier and a number of retailers. We formulate mixed integer programming models for both RMIP and VMIP with vehicle routing problems and perform computational experiments on various test problems. Furthermore, we derive the conditions which guarantee the dominant position for VMIP with respect to total supply chain cost in the simple retail supply chain.

  • 3 MeV protonirradiated SrTiO3 (STO) single crystal exhibits a blue and green mixed luminescence. However, the same proton irradiated STO deposited with very thin Pt layer does not show any luminescence. This Pt layer involved in preventing the damage caused by arcingthat comes from tens of kV surface voltage build-up due to secondary electron induced charge up at the surface of insulator during ion beam irradiation. It implies that luminescence of ion irradiated STO originated from the modified STO surface layer caused by arcing rather than direct ion beam irradiation effect. Atmospheric pressure plasma, a simple and cost-effective method, treated STO also exhibits the same kind of blue and green mixed luminescence as the ion beam treated STO, because this plasma also creates a surface damage layer by arcing.

  • Fe based ($Fe_{68.2}C_{5.9}Si_{3.5}B_{6.7}P_{9.6}Cr_{2.1}Mo_{2.0}Al_{2.0}$) amorphous powder were produced by a gas atomization process, and then ductile Cu powder fabricated by the electric explosion of wire(EEW) were mixed in the liquid (methanol) consecutively. The Fe-based amorphous - nanometallic Cu composite powders were compacted by a spark plasma sintering (SPS) processes. The nano-sized Cu powders of ${\sim}\;nm$200 produced by EEW in the methanol were mixed and well coated with the atomized Fe amorphous powders through the simple drying process on the hot plate. The relative density of the compacts obtained by the SPS showed over 98% and its hardness was also found to reach over 1100 Hv.

  • This paper presents a simple methodology for reducing the order of H$_{\infty}$ controllers in the mixed sensitivity control problems. The key point of this methodology is to transform the generalized plant expression to new one, where the control object and the weighting functions for the sensitivity function may have some poles on the imaginary axis. So that, this methodology makes it possible to use the standard method to solve the general H$_{\infty}$ design problems about the mixed sensitivity problems, even for a servo system or a oscillatory system. We derive that the order of H$_{\infty}$ controllers designed by this methodology may be reduced to n$_{p}$ where n$_{p}$ is the order of the denominator of the control object. It is clear that n$_{p}$ is lower than n$_{p}$ + n$_{s}$, which is the order of H$_{\infty}$ controllers obtained by the ordinary H$_{\infty}$ design method up to now, where n$_{s}$ is the order of the denominator of the weighting function for sensitivity. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the results..lts.ts..lts.lts.

  • The electrical transport properties of mayenite ($Ca_{12}Al_{14}O_{33}$ or $12CaO{\cdot}7Al_2O_3$; mostly abbreviated as $C_{12}A_7$) can be controlled in a wide range by varying the oxygen deficiency: At high temperatures mayenite becomes either an oxygen solid electrolyte, a mixed ionic/electronic conductor or an inorganic electride with metal-like properties upon chemical reduction (removing oxygen). The underlying defect chemistry can be understood on the basis of a relatively simple model-despite the complex cage structure: A point defect model based on the assumption that the framework $[Ca_{12}Al_{14}O_{32}]^{2+}$ acts as a pseudo-donor describes well the high temperature transport properties. It accounts for the observed conductivity plateau at higher oxygen activities and also describes the experimentally observed oxygen activity dependence of the electronic conductivity with -1/4 slope at temperatures between 800 and $1000^{\circ}C$. Doping effects in mayenite are still not well explored, and we review briefly the existing data on doping by different elements. Hydration of mayenite plays a crucial role, as Mayenite is hygroscopic, which may be a major obstacle for technical applications.

  • The objective of this investigation was to separate silicon and silica for recycling by the liquid-liquid separation technique. In the preparation of silicon (Si) single crystal, a small amount of silicon is fixed on the surface of silica (quartz, $SiO_2$) crucible. The used crucible is crushed for recycling both silicon and silica in a high purity from the mixed powder. Zeta-potential of silicon and silica are almost the same at pH higher than 3. Their separation by simple flotation is ruled out. However, their hydrophobic characteristics are different in several different organic solvent from the measurement of contact angle. Therefore, the liquid-liquid extraction is employed to separate silicon and silica. The result indicates that the organic solvent mixed with dodecyl ammonium acetate could extracted the silicon powder at high purity (97-100%) with high recovery from the silica powder in the water phase.

  • Clarified fruit and vegetable juices (apple, carrot and tangerine) were produced using ultrafiltration and their color change due to the mixing ratio were evaluated. clarification was carried out by passing he supernatant of extracted juice through a filter and also by using a membrane of molecular weight cut-off 10,000 Daltons to obtain the juice ultrafiltrates. The mixing ratio between apple and carrot juices was kept constant at 1:1 while increasing the amount of tangerine juice according to 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% an stored at 4$^{\circ}C$ prior to the color measurement. Hue angle ({TEX}$h_{ab}${/TEX}) and {TEX}$L^{*}${/TEX}-value increased as the tangerine mixing ratio increased. The color difference indicated by ΔE-value also increased as the amount of tangerine increased indicating that the color of the mixed juice became pale and the changes were slight but distinctive. On the other hand, chroma ({TEX}$C^{*}${/TEX}), {TEX}$La{*}${/TEX}- and {TEX}$b^{*}${/TEX}-values decreased as the tangerine mixing ratio increased indicating that the color of the mixed juice became slightly more grayish and the samples were becoming les yellow. A simple mathematical model to predict each color characteristic is proposed.

  • Ventilation effect is analyzed for boiler building with multiple heat sources. Air flow inside the boiler building is characterized as turbulent mixed convection. Analysis methodology is set up with two different $k-{\varepsilon}$ type models (standard $k-{\varepsilon}$, RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$). Two different cases with high and low outside temperature are analyzed. In case of high outside temperature condition, mixed convection is well realized inside the boiler building. With different upper louver opening rate, air flow is also well established and proper opening rate is found to meet design limit in case of low outside temperature condition. Difference of analysis results for two different turbulence models are not significant. Therefore, analysis methodology with simple $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is found to be reliable for the boiler building ventilation analysis. However, more simplified geometrical model is desired to expand its application.
