Status of Water Quality in Nakdong River Districts (낙동강 수계의 수질 현황)

  • To provide the basic information for the water improvement and control of water resource in Nakdong river districts, the physico-chemical characteristics of water in four main streams and three branch streams of the river were investigated through 36 times totally, one time per each month from January in 1995 to November in 1997. The pH values of each sites in main or branch stream of Nakdong river was pH $6.3{\sim}9.3$ range, pH range of Jukpo and Namji area at spring and fall was almost over pH 8.5, which was exceeded the water quality standard for agriculture. DO values of Nakdong river was almost $8.0{\sim}13mg/l$, except for Kangchang area in downstream of Kumho river. BOD values in Dasa area where was prior to mixing of Kumho river was $1.5{\sim}4.8mg/l$, which was under the water quality standard for agriculture(8mg/l), but BOD values followed mixing of Kumho river was over the permit standard of agricultural water as $3.8{\sim}8.9mg/l$ in Koryung, $3.4{\sim}8.4mg/l$ in Jukpo and $3.3{\sim}7.8mg/l$ in Namji according to time or season. Especially, BOD values at Gangchang area in Kumho river were $7.6{\sim}18.5mg/l$, which was over the water quality standard for agriculture and so Kumho river was a main pollutant: source of Nakdong river. COD values of main stream of Nakdong river was over the permit standard of agriculture(8mg/l) as $5.2{\sim}13.5mg/l$ in Koryvng, $5.0{\sim}12.7mg/l$ in Jukpo and $5.0{\sim}12.2mg/l$ in Namji according to time or season. And COD values was much high rather than BOD values and its gap of concentration was increased along with downstream. $NH_4-N$ of main stream of Nakdong river followed mixing of Kumho river($0.5{\sim}13.1mg/l$) was the highest affected in Koryung($0.18{\sim}5.0mg/l$) and detected much more in winter than in summer. T-N in Koryung($4.96{\sim}12.06mg/l$) followed mixing of Kumho river was significantly high rather than $2.86{\sim}4.86mg/l$ in Dasa, $4.20{\sim}8.20mg/l$ in Jukpo and $3.18{\sim}8.64mg/l$ in Namji, which was almost over the permit standard of agricultural water(1.0mg/l). T-P in Koryung($0.10{\sim}0.58mg/l$) also was significantly high rather than those $0.07{\sim}0.36mg/l$ in Jukpo and $0.08{\sim}0.4mg/l$ in Namji as over the standard of agricultural water(0.1mg/l). The concentration of T-N or T-P in Nakdong districts was trended of increasing in every year.

Studies on the Changes in Free Amino Acids and Organic Acids of Takju Prepared with Different Koji Strains (국균을 달리한 탁주 양조 중 유리아미노산 및 유기산의 소장)

  • Takju, a Korean traditional rice wine, was prepared using Koji and Nuluk which were inoculated with single or combination culture of Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus shirousamii, and Aspergillus kawachii to investigate changes in mineral, amino acid and organic acid during fermentation. The mineral content showed a range of $1.50{\sim}15.20ppm\;for\;Ca,\;0.22{\sim}0.25ppm\;for\;Cu,\;1.60{\sim}2.10ppm\;for\;Fe,\;0.17{\sim}0.55ppm\;for\;Mn,\;0.68{\sim}1.00ppm\;for\;Zn,\;3.00{\sim}40.50ppm\;for\;K,\;5.25{\sim}19.50\;for\;Mg,\;1.43{\sim}2.95ppm\;for\;Na,\;and\;3.00{\sim}63.0ppm$ for P. It has been found that Takju had 16 kinds of amino acid including aspartic acid. A. niger Nuluk showed the highest contents in total amino acids, while A. kawachii Koji was the lowest in amino acids. The major amino acids were glutamic acid, alanine, leucine, and phenylalanine. The order of organic acids from the highest content in Takju were citric acid> tartaric acid> pyruvic acid> malic acid> lactic acid> acetic acid.

  • The ratio of the eatable flesh taken from the filefish and its chemical components were investigated from March 1980 to February 1981 and the results are as follows :1. The ratio of the eatable flesh taken from the fish was low during March to June and high during July to December. 2. The moisture content was $81.4-82.0\%$ during March to June, $77.5-80.1\%$ during July to December and $79.4-81.4\%$ during January to February. 3. The protein content was $15.4-15.7\%$ during March to June, $17.0-19.9\%$ during July to December and $16.1-17.0\%$ during January to February. 4. The Lipid content was $0.31-0.41\%$ during March to January, $0.46-0.84\%$ during July to January and $0.43\%$ during February. 5. The carbohydrate content was $0.3-0.4\%$ during March to July, $0.5-0.7\%$ during August to January and $0.3\%$ during February. In conclusion, the ratios of the eatable flesh taken from the filefish and its protein content were highest during July to December in one year.

Maturity Grouping of Korean Soybean Cultivars and Character Relationships According to the Planting Date

  • This study was carried out to classify Korean soybean varieties base on maturity group (MG) and to find character relationships according to planting date for high quality soybean seed production adapted to early season cultivation environment of Miryang. Results of maturity grouping of Korean soybean varieties showed that Keunol (3 cultivars), belonged to Group 0; Seonnok and Danmi in Group II, Shinrok in Group III, Seonyu (17 cultivars), in Group IV, Taekwang (44 cultivars) in Group V, Daewon (25 cultivars) in Group VI, and Kwangdu and Keumdu in Group VII. Agronomic characteristics of 100 soybean varieties were compared based on MG, cultivation year and seeding date. Soybean varieties belonging to the MG $VI{\sim}VII$ showed longer days to flowering and growth period, high lodging density and higher yield. Seed quality analysis revealed that as maturity was delayed, seed weight becomes heavier while seed cracks become abundant. In addition, occurrence of purple seed and phomopsis were higher in MG $0{\sim}III$. Protein content was higher in MG $0{\sim}III$, and isoflavone content was higher as maturity was delayed. On the other hand, lipid content was generally similar across MGs. Correlation analysis of major agronomic characters showed positive relationships between days to flowering and growth days, seed weight and lodging in MG $IV{\sim}V$, seed crack and growth days in MG $0{\sim}III$, seed crack and days to flowering in MG $IV{\sim}V$ and MG $VI{\sim}VII$, seed crack and lodging in MG $IV{\sim}V$ and MG $VI{\sim}VII$, seed crack and seed weight in MG $IV{\sim}V$ and MG $VI{\sim}VII$, purple seed and growth days in MG $IV{\sim}V$, purple seed and seed weight in MG $VI{\sim}VII$, phomopsis and growth days in MG $IV{\sim}V$ and MG $VI{\sim}VII$, and phomopsis and purple seed in MG $IV{\sim}V$ and MG $VI{\sim}VII$. In contrast, a negative relationship was observed between seed weight and lodging in MG $0{\sim}III$. Correlating yield and major characters revealed negative relationships between days to flowering and growth days in MG $0{\sim}III$ and MG $IV{\sim}V$, whereas positive relationships were obtained on MG $VI{\sim}VII$ seeded on April 30. Lodging, seed weight and seed crack were all negatively correlated with yield in the MG $IV{\sim}V$ and MG $VI{\sim}VII$. Soybean cultivars identified as adaptable to early season planting for production of high quality soy curd and fermented soybean paste were Seonyu, Kwangdu, and Soho while those suited for the manufacture of soybean sprouts were Sobaeknanul, Kwangan, Sowon, and Bosuk. Geomjeong 2 chosen as best for mixing with rice.

Development of Fresh Cheeses and Whey Drinks Using Milk Components (우유 성분을 이용한 생치즈와 유청 음료의 개발)

  • In order to save foreign currency and to domesticize the dairy products, various fresh cheeses and whey drinks were developed and some physicochemical, microbiological and sensory evaluation were performed. The yield of fresh cheese was 22.3%, while that of whey 77.7%. The pH-values of fresh cheeses were $5.90{\sim}6.49$, while those of whey drinks $6.07{\sim}6.49$, and fermented whey drinks $3.97{\sim}4.91$. The acidities of fresh cheeses were $0.09{\sim}0.26%$, while those of whey drinks $0.09{\sim}0.36%$. The contents of solid substances, protein and lactose in fresh cheeses were $25.67{\sim}34.18%$, $7.45{\sim}9.11%$ and $3.61{\sim}4.14%$, while those of whey drinks $7.39{\sim}7.70%$, $0.88{\sim}0.94%$ and $4.93(\sim}6.17%$, respectively. The lactic acid contents of whey drinks varied from $0.01{\sim}0.38%$, where the content in the fermented sample was the highest. The general colony counts of fresh cheeses were $0{\sim}30/g$, while those of whey drinks $0{\sim}80/ml$. The psychrotrophs counts of fresh cheeses were $0{\sim}20/g$, while those of whey drinks $0{\sim}60/ml$. Lactic acid bacterial counts in both products were not detected except for $97{\sim}401{\times}10^8/ml$ in fermented whey drinks. E. coli and fungi were not detected in both products. In sensory evaluation of both products, the strawberry added fresh cheese was the best of fresh cheeses, while the garlic added fresh cheese was the worst. Pure whey drink was the best of whey drinks, while the ginseng added whey drink was the worst.

Artificial Cultivation of Tricholoma giganteum Collected in Korea (I) - Morphological Charateristics of Fruitbody and Environmental Condition in Habitat of T. giganteum - (한국산 왕송이버섯의 인공재배 (I) - 자실체 형태적 특징과 발생지 환경조사 -)

  • The result of study on the morphological feature of fruitbody, soil characteristics and enviromental condition of habitat of Tricholoma giganteum in Korea was as follows: The Pileus was $5.5{\sim}28.0\;cm$ in diameter and $1.5{\sim}3.7\;cm$ in thickness, indicating of yellowish white, beige, or ivory color. The lamellae were $18{\sim}20\;mm$ in diameter; the stipe was $9.0{\sim}35.7\;cm$ long and $1.0{\sim}3.0\;cm$ wide. The spores were $3.5{\sim}4.8{\times}5.7{\sim}7.4\;{\mu}m$ in size, ellipsoid, hyaline and the spore deposit white. The basidia were $6.1{\sim}7.0{\times}32.2{\sim}39.2\;{\mu}m$ in size. Cheiloystidia were $3.5{\sim}4.4{\times}30.5{\sim}33.1\;{\mu}m$ in size. Pileipellis were $3.3{\sim}4.4{\times}33.0{\sim}55.0\;{\mu}m$ wide and had clamp connection. Stipitipellis were $2.2{\sim}3.3{\times}88.0{\sim}93.1\;{\mu}m$ in size. Texture of soil in habitate of T. giganteum was silty loam, and organic materials content and available phosphate content in this soil were high as comparision to general soil in Korea. In the time of the mushrooms sprout, the room temperature indicated $25{\sim}27^{\circ}C$, their humidity showed $80{\sim}83%$, and the brightnesses were 328 Lux.

Evaluation and Prediction of Failure Hazard Area by the Characteristics of Forest Watershed (산림유역 특성에 의한 붕괴 위험지역의 평가 및 예지)

  • This study was carried out to analyze the characteristics of forest watershed factors by using the quantification theory(I) for evaluation and prediction of the failure hazard area. Present $sediment(m^3/yr/ha)$ of erosion control dams were investigated in 95 sites of erosion control dam constructed during 1986 to 1999 in Gyeongnam province. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows; General condition of class I(Very hazard area) were as follow; Igneous rock in parent rock, coniferous in forest type, below 20year in stand age, below 30cm in soil depth, SCL in soil texture, $31{\sim}40%$ in gravel contents, $S{\sim}E$ in aspect, $2,501{\sim}3,600m$ in length of main stream, $26{\sim}30$ in number of total streams, $6,601{\sim}10,000m$ in length of total streams, over 3 in stream order, over 16 in number of first streams order and over $31^{\circ}$ of slope gradient. General condition of class IIl(hazard area) were as follow; Metamorphic rock in parent rock, hardwood in forest type, over $21{\sim}24year$ in stand age, $31{\sim}40cm$ in soil depth, SiCL or SCL in soil texture, $11{\sim}20%$ in gravel contents, $S{\sim}W$ in aspect, $1,501{\sim}2,600m$ in length of main stream, $6{\sim}10$ in number of total streams, $3,501{\sim}5,500m$ in length of total streams, 2 in stream order, $6{\sim}10$ in number of first streams order and over $31^{\circ}$ of slope gradient. General condition of class III(Un hazard area) were as follow; Sedimentary rock in parent rock, mixed in forest type, over 25year in stand age, $41{\sim}50cm$ in soil depth, SiCL in soil texture, below 10% in gravel contents, $N{\sim}W$ in aspect, below 500m in length of main stream, below 5 in number of total streams, below 1,000m in length of total treams, below 1 in stream order, below 2 in number of first streams order and below $25^{\circ}$ of slope gradient. The prediction method of suitable for failure hazard area divided into class I, II, and III for the convenience of use. The score of class I evaluated as a very hazard area was over 4.8052. A score of class II was 4.8051 to 2.5602, it was evaluated as a hazard area, and class III was below 2.5601, it was evaluated as a un hazard area.

Changes of Major Constituents by Soaking of Citrus platymamma Peel with Spirit Solution (병귤과피의 주정 침출 중 유용성분의 변화)

  • In order to prepare liqueur of Citrus platymamma, 500 g dried peel was soaked in 10 l (5%, w/v) of $30{\sim}95%$ ethanol concentration for 70 days. Changes in pH was $5.19{\sim}4.80$ with 30% ethanol concentration, and the pH was decreased as ethanol concentration decreases for 10 days after soaking. Color a-value was decreased and color b-value was increased according to higher ethanol concentration. Extract was $2.00{\sim}2.19%$ (w/v) with $30{\sim}70%$ ethanol concentration. Acid content was $0.18{\sim}0.21%$ (v/v) with $30{\sim}70%$ ethanol concentration, while $0.13{\sim}0.15%$ (v/v) with 95% ethanol concentration. The contents of fructose and glucose was increased with lower ethanol concentration, and sucrose content was decreased with longer soaking time. Main flavonoids were narirutin, hesperidin, nobiletin, 3,5,6,7,8,3'4'-methoxylated flavone, and tangeretin. Most flavonoids were extracted more than 80% of ethanol for $3{\sim}5$ days soaking. Total polyphenol was $628.8{\sim}711.2$ ${\mu}g/ml$ with $30{\sim}70%$ ethanol concentration for 20 days soaking. Therefore, to prepare Citrus platymamma peel liqueur, it is necessary to soak the material in $50{\sim}70%$ ethanol concentration for 20 days.

Environmental Characteristics of Natural Habitat of Protothaca jedoensis in Gamak Bay, Korea (가막만 살조개, Protothaca jedoensis 서식지 환경특성)

  • In this study, environmental parameters of natural habitat were measured to find out suitable place for release and improve the productivity of Protothaca jedoensis in Gamak Bay. Water temperature, salinity of the habitat ranged from 5.4 to 27.6 and from 26.5 to $34.5\%_{\circ}$, respectively. Range of pH, DO, COD, Chl-a, T-N and T-P were $7.82{\sim}8.39,\;5.31{\sim}11.28mg/L,\;0.13{\sim}1.38mg/L,\;3.05{\sim}11.55mg/L,\;0.005{\sim}0.180mg/L\;and\;0.007{\sim}0.028mg/L$ respectively. Dominant grain size was fine silt and the IL of sediment was ranged from $0.75{\sim}7.26%$. The water content was $20.16{\sim}53.65%$ and highest value was observed in Baegyado. The COD and AVS in the sediments ranged from $0.53{\sim}8.67mg/g-dry$ and $0.002{\sim}0.113mg/g-dry$ respectively. The bottom condition of Baegyado was higher than other area.

NPS Pollution Loads from Coal Mining in Korea (석탄광산 작업장의 비점오염부하 유출특성)

  • 환경부에서 추진하고 있는 토지피복 중분류별 비점오염부하원단위를 산정하기 위한 사업 중 나지로 분류되는 채광지역의 비점오염부하를 측정하였다. 비점오염부하는 강원도 삼척시 도계읍의 도계 작업장(석탄)과 태백시 장성동의 태백 저탄소 등 2곳의 채광지역에서 2007년 9월부터 12월까지 2회의 강우유출사상을 대상으로 측정하였다. 2회 강우사상 동안 총강수량은 도계 작업장에서 149 mm이었으며 태백 저탄소에서 201 mm이었다. 유출량은 수위계와 유량계로 5분 단위로 측정하였으며, 수질시료는 자동채수기로 2시간 간격으로 채취하였다. 수질시료는 환경부의 공정시험법에 따라 SS, BOD, CODcr, T-N, T-P, 그리고 TOC 농도를 분석하였다. 그리고 일부의 시료에 대해서는 Zn, Cb, Cu, 그리고 Pb의 농도를 분석하였다. 도계 작업장의 유량가중평균농도는 갱내수의 수질에 많은 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 도계작업장의 일평균유량가중평균농도는 SS $86.3{\sim}94.9\;mg/{\ell}$, BOD $3.8{\sim}7.6\;mg/{\ell}$, COD $26.9{\sim}51.6\;mg/{\ell}$, T-N $1.5{\sim}2.1\;mg/{\ell}$, T-P $0.2\;mg/{\ell}$ 그리고 TOC $1.8{\sim}2.3\;mg/{\ell}$로 나타났다. 태백 저탄소의 일평균유량가중평균농도는 SS $16.5{\sim}66.6\;mg/{\ell}$, BOD $7.4{\sim}9.8\;mg/{\ell}$, COD $41.1{\sim}66.7\;mg/{\ell}$, T-N $0.7{\sim}1.1\;mg/{\ell}$, T-P $0.2\;mg/{\ell}$ 그리고 TOC $1.7{\sim}2.6\;mg/{\ell}$로 나타났다. 중금속의 농도는 모든 시료에서 환경부의 배출허용기준농도보다 낮게 나타나거나 검출되지 않았다. 도계 작업장의 일오염부하는 SS $1,368.8{\sim}1,984.1\;kg/day$, BOD $56.6{\sim}128.9\;kg/day$, COD $385.7{\sim}933.7\;kg/day$, T-N $23.4{\sim}44.5\;kg/day$, T-P $2.1{\sim}4.8\;kg/day$ 그리고 TOC $24.3{\sim}39.3\;kg/day$이었다. 태백 저탄소의 일오염부하는 SS $8.2{\sim}162.1\;kg/day$, BOD $2.6{\sim}15.3\;kg/day$, COD $13.8{\sim}83.6\;kg/day$, T-N $0.2{\sim}3.1\;kg/day$, T-P $0.1{\sim}0.6\;kg/day$ 그리고 TOC $0.7{\sim}4.4\;kg/day$로 나타났다. 본 연구는 2회의 강우유출사상에 대하여 측정한 자료이므로 연평균농도나 연평균오염부하로 활용하기는 어렵다. 그러나 석탄광산지역의 비점오염부하를 이해하는데 활용할 수 있으며 또한 장기적인 연구자료로 활용하여 석탄광산지역의 비점오염원단위의 산정에 유용한 자료로 활용할 수 있다.
