There are no specific criteria deciding what type of crosswalk installs although 4 typed crosswalks at signalized intersections classify according to number of stop line, spacing from the border of intersections and existence of traffic islands or not. Accidents involving pedestrians at signalized intersections are classified by type of crosswalks by traffic volume, pedestrian volume at crosswalk, intersection geometry and phase in view of pedestrians' safety at 50 intersections in Gwangju. The Multiple regression models are applied to express the pedestrian accident rate. In addition, process deciding what type of crosswalk installs which includes accident rate involved pedestrian is changed into number of accident is represented to reduce number of accidents. This paper presents what type of crosswalk installs in order to reduce pedestrian involved accidents at new or existing crosswalk.
This study deals with the traffic accidents of elderly drivers. The objectives are to comparatively analyze the characteristics of accident between the elderly and other drivers, and to develop the models of traffic accidents. In pursuing the above, this paper gives particular attentions to testing the differences between the above two groups, and developing the models(Poisson and negative binomial regression) using the data of Cheongju 4-legged signalized intersections. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, the differences between the elderly and other drivers' accidents were clearly defined by the time of day, accident type, etc. Second, 3 accident models which were all statistically significant were developed. Finally, the differences between elderly and other drivers' models were comparatively analyzed using the common and specific variables.

The Saturation headway is a major parameter in estimating the intersection capacity and setting the signal timing. But Existing algorithms are still far from being robust in dealing with factors related to the variation of saturation headways at signalized intersections. So this study apply the fuzzy inference system using ANFIS. The ANFIS provides a method for the fuzzy modeling procedure to learn information about a data set, in order to compute the membership function parameters that best allow the associated fuzzy inference system to track the given input/output data. The climate conditions and the degree of brightness were chosen as the input variables when the rate of heavy vehicles is 10-25 %. These factors have the uncertain nature in quantification, which is the reason why these are chosen as the fuzzy variables. A neuro-fuzzy inference model to estimate saturation headways at signalized intersections was constructed in this study. Evaluating the model using the statistics of $R^2$, MAE and MSE, it was shown that the explainability of the model was very high, the values of the statistics being 0.993, 0.0289, 0.0173 respectively.

Seoul metropolitan government has been operating traffic signal control system with the name of COSMOS since 2001. COSMOS uses the degrees of saturation and congestion which are calculated by installing loop detectors. At present, inductive loop detector is generally used for detecting vehicles but it is inconvenient and costly for maintenance since it is buried on the road. In addition, the estimated queue length might be influenced in case of error occurred in measuring speed, because it only uses the speed of vehicles passing by the detector. A traffic signal control algorithm which enables smooth traffic flow at intersection is proposed. The proposed algorithm assigns vehicles to the group of each lane and calculates traffic volume and congestion degree using traffic information of each group using VANETs(Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks) inter-vehicle communication. It does not demand additional devices installation such as cameras, sensors or image processing units. In this paper, the algorithm we suggest is verified for AJWT(Average Junction Waiting Time) and TQL(Total Queue Length) under single intersection model based on GLD(Green Light District) Simulator. And the result is better than Random control method and Best first control method. In case real-time control method with VANETs is generalized, this research that suggests the technology of traffic control in signalized intersections using wireless communication will be highly useful.

The median exclusive bus lanes with the purpose of improving public transport as part of a public transport promoting policy propel to improves the speed of the bus and guarantee punctuality security of public transportation for citizen satisfaction. In Median Exclusive bus lanes, Intersection operational methods are classified as turn prohibition, left turn, left turn U-Turn after turn prohibition. However, there are not clear criteria for applying for turn left U-Turn and related researches. The purpose of this study is to search a method for more safely operation when we operate turn left U-Turn in median exclusive bus lanes intersection. As a result, Bus stop in median exclusive bus lane should set back 12m for left turn, 17m for left turn U-turn during 60km/h and set back 13m for left turn, 17m for left turn U-turn during 50km/h.

Traffic accident at intersections takes 44.3% of total number of accidents on entire road network of Korea in 2014. Although several studies addressed contributory factors of accidents at signalized intersection, very few is known about the factors at rural unsignalized intersections. The objective of this study is therefore to investigate specific characteristics of crashes at rural unsignalized intersection and to identify contributory factors in causing crashes by statistical approach using the Ordered Logistic Regression Model. The results show that main type of car crashes at unsignalized intersection during the daytime is T-bone crashes and the number of crashes at 4-legged intersections are 1.53 times more than that at 3-legged intersections. Most collisions are caused by negligence of drivers and violation of Right of Way. Based upon the analysis, accident severity is modeled as classified by two types such as 3-legged intersection and 4-legged intersection. It shows that contributory factors in causing crashes at rural unsignalized intersections are poor sight distance problem, average daily traffic, time of day(night, or day), angle of intersection, ratio of heavy vehicles, number of traffic violations at intersection, and number of lanes on minor street.
As the interest in traffic safety has been increasing recently, social movement is being made to reduce the number of traffic accidents and the view on improving the mobility of the existing roads is being converted into on establishing traffic safety as a priority. The increase of traffic accidents related to an intersection in a state that traffic accidents are decreasing overall may suggests the necessity to investigate the specific causes. In addition, we have to consider them when establishing the measures against traffic accidents in a intersection by investigating and analyzing the influences and factors that may affect traffic accidents. To induce the accident severity model, we collected the factors that affect accidents and then applied the Poisson Regression Model among nonlinear regression analysis by verifying the distribution of variables. As a result of the analysis, it turned out that the volume of traffic on main roads, the right turn ratio on sub-roads, the number of ways out on sub-roads, the number of exclusive roads for a left turn, the signals for a right turn on main roads, and an intersect angle were the factors that affect the accident severity.
The goals of this study are to develop travel time functions based on intersection delay and to analyze the applicability of the functions to traffic assignment models. The study begins with the premise that the existing assignment models can not effectively account for intersection delay time. In pursuing the goals, this study gives particular attention to dividing the link travel time into link moving time and stopped time at node, making the models based on such variables as the travel speed, volume, geometry, and signal data of signalized intersections in Cheongju, and analyzing the applicability of these models to traffic assignment. There are several major findings. First, the study presents the revised percentage of lanes (considering type of intersection) instead of g/C for calculating intersection delay, which is analyzed to be significant in the paired t-test. Second, the assigned results of applying these models to the Cheongju network in EMME/2 are compared with the data observed from a test car survey in Cheongju. The analyses show that the BPR models do not consider the intersection delay, but the modified uniform delay model and modified Webster model are comparatively well fitted to the observed data. Finally, the assigned results of applying these models are statistically compared with the test car survey data in assigned volume, travel time, and average speed. The results show that the estimates from the divided travel time model are better fitted to observed data than those from the BPR model.

Recently in Korea, in the case of metropolis, the urban signalized intersections are controlled by traffic information center or ITS center. Cheon-an City also established traffic information center through the 1st.-$\sim$3rd. ITS public construction and has managed this center that includes bus information service, traffic information collection and providing service, parking information service, and traffic responsive control system. In the Cheon-an metropolitan traffic signal operation, traffic signal controllers were grouped by the each main traffic flow axes and performed with coordinated signal timing for the signalized arterials, and also cycle and split changed by realtime traffic demands. Cheon-an urban traffic responsive control system was evaluated by intersection delay and speed, then it was verified that the delay decreased and vehicle speed improved. However, the rural signal control system to connect adjacency town was evaluated to have lower status than urban area due to the unimproved TOD (Time of day) plan. Therefore actuated signal control was examined for substitutive control system in isolated signal intersection. The aim of this article is to compare actuated signal control with TOD mode in the rural intersection of Cheon-an and to fine superiority of these two control mode, with evaluation of vehicle delay by using HCM(2000) method and by micro-simulation CORSlM. The result of field test show that actuated signal control gave better performance in delay comparison than the existing TOD signal control. And simulation outcome verified that non-optimized TOD has higher delay than optimized TOD mode, non-optimal actuated mode, and optimal actuated signal control mode. Particularly, these three modes delays had not different values according to the paired sample t-test. This is because small traffic demands were loaded in each links. This suggested actuated signal control is expected to be more effective than TOD mode in some rural isolated intersections which frequently need to survey for traffic volume.
Controlled traffic intersection is critical point in terms of transportation network performance, where the most of traffic congestion arises. One of the most important and favorable measure of effectiveness in the signal controlled intersection is approach delay. Although lots of efforts to develop traffic delay estimation models have been made throughout the years, most of them were focusing on homogeneous traffic flow. The purpose of this research is to develop a traffic delay estimation model for traffic flow mixed with bus based on the horizontal shockwave theory. Traffic simulation is performed to test the adaptation level of the model in generic environment. The result shows that the delay increases with increasing bus traffic. Overall model accuracy comparing simulation result is acceptable, that shows the error range around 10 percent.
