  • In this paper, we propose and observe a system that adopts Common-MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level over all layer and Independent-MCS level for each layer in the combined AMC-V-BLAST (Adaptive Modulation and Coding-Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) system. Also, comparing with the combined system using Common-MCS level, we observe throughput performance improvement in case of Independent-MCS level. As a result of simulation, Independent-MCS level case adapts modulation and coding scheme for maximum throughput to each channel condition in separate layer, resulting in improved throughput compared to Common-MCS level case. Especially, the results show that the combined AMC-V-BLAST system with Independent-MCS level achieves a gain of 700kbps in $7{\sim}9dB$ SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) range against using Common-MCS level. In addition, the combined AMC-V-BLAST system using MMSEnulling method with receive diversity is verified that the difference of throughput between Independent MCS level system and common MCS level system in $7dB{\sim}9dB$ SNR is about 350kbps more or less.

  • Amitrole is well-known as a non-selective herbicide and it is able to cause contamination of driking water as well as pollution of ground water and surface water. However, it is difficult to extract from water because it has a high solubility for water whereas a low solubility for general organic solvents. This method is described for the determination of amitrole in water samples by GC/MS. After evaporation of 10 mL water sample by a vacuum evaporator, amitrole was derivatized with isobutyl chloroformate (iso-BCF) on room temperature for 15~20 min. As a result, the sensitivity for GCfMS was improved as N-isobutoxycarbonyl amitrole derivative was formed. The linearity of the calibration curve showed good as 0.997. The recoveries were obtained more than 94.9% and relative standard deviations were less than 2.8% at $1.0{\mu}g/L$, $10.0{\mu}g/L$ and $100.0{\mu}g/L$. The limit of detection showed $0.1{\mu}g/L$ with a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 3.

  • A method is described for the analysis of short-chain alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs), 4-octylphenol-di-ethoxylate (OP2EO) and 4-nonylphenol-di-ethoxylate (NP2EO), in drinking water or wastewater using reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The solvent system was water and methanol containing $10{\mu}M$ trifluoroacetic acid as an ionization solvent. We acidified 1 L of water samples to less than pH 2 with concentrated $H_2SO_4$ and loaded onto Sep-Pak $C_{18}$, and eluted with acetone. The calibration of OP2EO and NP2EO was performed for the concentration range from 20 to 500 ng/L and the correlation coefficients were 0.999 and 0.990, respectively. The limits of detection were 20 ng/L (OP2EO) and 50 ng/L (NP2EO) at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. Accuracy and precision of this analytical method were 85.8 ~ 122.1% and 8.2 ~ 18.8%, respectively. The proposed method allowed a sensitive and rapid detection of OP2EO and NP2EO and it could be applied for monitoring of APEOs from environmental samples.

  • A selective method of high performance liquid chromatography with UV detector has been applied to determine 4 tetracycline antibiotics in the animal food, simultaneously. The targets were chlortetracycline (CTC), doxycycline (DC), oxytetracycline (OTC), and tetracycline (TC) that are used routinely in veterinary medicine for prevention and control of disease. Food samples were beef, pork, chicken, milk, whole egg, flatfish (Limanda yokohamae), jacopever (Sebastes hubbsi), seabream (Chrysophrys major), eel (Anguilla japonica) and lobster (Hommarus americanus). After extracting food samples with 20% trichloroacetic acid and McIlvaine buffer, they were purified by a $C_18$ SPE cartridge with 0.01M methanolic oxalic acid solution. The concentrated residue was re-dissolved in methanol, filtered, cleaned up and analyzed on a $C_18$ column. The mobile phase was a mixture of 0.01M oxalic acid and acetonitrile with a gradient ratio from 85:15 to 60:40. The UV wavelength was 365 nm. The overall recoveries were ranged from 71% to 98% and the limit of detections were 0.022 for CTC, 0.012 for DC and OTC and 0.009 mg/kg for TC at signal/noise > 3, respectively. As results, CTC, DC and TC were not detected in all selected food samples, however, OTC was detected in meat and fishes. The determined level of OTC was 0.04 ppm for pork, 0.17 ppm for flatfish and 0.05 and 0.08 ppm for jacopever, that were within the Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) in the food.

  • The thick films of oxide semiconductors such as $WO_{3}$, $SnO_{2}$ and ZnO for the $NO_{2}$ detection of sub-ppm range have been prepared and their characteristics were investigated. It is showed that the optimum operating temperatures of the sensors are $300^{\circ}C$ and $220{\sim}260^{\circ}C$ for $WO_{3}$-based and $SnO_{2}$-based thick films, and ZnO-based thick films, respectively. Since the resistance of ZnO-based thick films are extremely high($>10^{6}{\Omega}$), the signal to noise ratio was comparatively low. In order to determine the selectivity, the films are exposed to the interfering gases such as ozone, ammonia, methane and the mixture of carbon monoxide and propane. $WO_{3}$-ZnO(3 wt.%) and $SnO_{2}-WO_{3}$(3 wt.%) thick film sensors show high sensitivity, good selectivity, excellent reproducibility and the linearity of $NO_{2}$ concentration versus sensor resistance. The preliminary results clearly demonstrated that the sensor can be successfully applied for the detection of $NO_{2}$ in sub-ppm range.

  • When video service is performed in simulation using NS-2(Network Simulation-2), the video replay is performed as the received frame order. In the existing video replay method based on the received frame order, as the frame orders of receiver and transmitter are different, the receiver buffer does not have the effect that the packets between the frames of transmitter buffer holds a regular size and packet dense and sparsity phenomenon in the receiver buffer is made by the irregular packet size due to the unpredictable reversed order of received partial frames. The above dense and sparsity phenomenon increases the probability of buffer overflow and underflow generation. To prevent these problems, the proposed frame receive order relocation method adds an extra replay buffer which rearranges the order of receive frame as the order of transmit frame, so it has the effect that the packets between the transmit frames keeps a regular size. Through the simulation using NS-2 and JSVM(Joint Scalable Video Model), the generation number of buffer overflow and underflow, and PSNR(Required Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) performance between the existing method and proposed method were compared. As a result, it was found that the proposed method would have better performance than the existing method.

  • The aim of this study is to develop the $^1H$-MRS data postprocessing software for both single-voxel and multi-voxel technique, which plays and important role as a diagnostic tool in clinical field. This software is based on graphical user interface(GUI) under windows operating system of personal computer(PC). In case of single-voxel MRS, both of raw data in time-domain and spectrum data in frequency-domain are simultaneously displayed in a screen. Several functions such as DC correction, zero filling, line broadening, Lorentz-Gauss filtering and phase correction, etc. are included to increase the quality of spectrum data. In case of multi-voxel analysis, spectroscopic image reconstructed by 3-D FFT was displayed as a spectral grid and overlapped over previously obtained T1- or T2-weighted image for the spectra to be spatially registered with the image. The analysis of MRS peaks were performed by obtaining the ratio of peak area. In single-voxel method, statistically processed peak-area ratios of MRS data obtained from normal human brain are presented. Using multi-voxel method, MR spectroscopic image and metabolite image acquired from brain tumor are demonstrated.

  • This paper presents high power and high efficiency Doherty amplifiers for 2.345 GHz wireless broadband (WiBro) applications that use a Nitronex 125-W ($P_{3dB}$) GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT). Two- and three-way Doherty amplifiers and a saturated Doherty amplifier using Class-F circuitry are implemented. The measured result for a center frequency of 2.345 GHz shows that the two-way Doherty amplifier attains a high $P_{3dB}$ of 51.5 dBm, a gain of 12.5 dB, and a power-added efficiency (PAE) improvement of about 16 % compared to a single class AB amplifier at 6-dB back-off power region from $P_{3dB}$. For a WiBro OFDMA signal, the Doherty amplifier provides an adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) at 4.77 MHz offset that is -33 dBc at an output power of 42 dBm, which is a 9.5 dB back-off power region from $P_{3dB}$. By employing a digital pre-distortion (DPD) technique, the ACLR of the Doherty amplifier is improved from -33 dBc to -48 dBc. The measured result for the same frequency shows that the three-way Doherty amplifier, which has a $P_{3dB}$ of 53.16 dBm and a gain of 10.3 dB, and the saturated Doherty amplifier, which has a $P_{3dB}$ of 51.1 dBm and a gain of 10.3 dB, provide a PAE improvement of 11 % at the 9-dB back-off power region and 7.5 % at the 6-dB back-off region, respectively, compared to the two-way Doherty amplifier.

  • Being popularized the use of portable entertainment/information devices, the demand on flash memory has been also increased radically. In general, flash memory reveals various error patterns by the devices it is mounted, and thus the memory makers are trying to minimize error ratio in the final process through not only the electric test but also the data integrity test under the same condition as real application devices. This process is called an application-level memory test. Though currently various flash memory testing devices have been used in the production lines, most of the works related to memory test depend on the sensual abilities of human testers. In case of testing the flash memory for MP3 devices, the human testers are checking if the memory has some errors by hearing the audio played on the memory testing device. The memory testing process like this has become a bottleneck in the flash memory production line. In this paper, we propose an audio comparison technique to support the efficient flash memory test for MP3 devices. The technique proposed in this paper compares the variance change rate between the source binary file and the decoded analog signal and checks automatically if the memory errors are occurred or not.

  • Fiber-Bragg-grating external cavity laser(FGL) modules were fabricated and experimentally analyzed. Proposed as a cost-effective solution for optical sources in the WDM-PON access network, FGL modules were packaged to TO-CAN type. We obtained a low threshold current of 13 mA, and an optical output power of 3.6 mW with a bias current of 60 mA at $25^{\circ}C$. The lasing wavelength dependencies on current and temperature were as small as 5.2 pm/mA and 30 pm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. These change rates of the wavelength with the temperature and current are smaller than those of the DFB laser. Single-mode oscillations with the side-mode suppression ratio(SMSR) over 30 dB are maintained above the threshold current level. The FGL modules can be directly modulated at 155 Mbps, PRBS(2$^{23}$ -1) NRZ signal. Through the BER plots, we did not see the significant degradations before and after the transmission over 20km of the SMF at 155 Mb/s.
