  • When a spacecraft in deep space falls into an abnormal state, an emergency communication channel between ground and the spacecraft is essential in order to perform analysis to the cause of the anomaly, and to remedy the spacecraft from the distressed state. Because the recovery actions generally comprises of long and complicated sequences of commands, the transmission of the recovery commands may require a reliable and a delay tolerant networking technology based on bundle routing. While the delay tolerant networking protocol becomes a prominent method interfacing ground and space into a internet-like Solar system network because it can address the issues of the severe communication problems in deep space, the communication system on the spacecraft which based on space packet protocol cannot use the delay tolerant networking technology directly. So a community of the consultative committee for space data systems starts a discussion of the first-hop last-hop mechanism to establish a feasible concept and standardization. This paper presents an enhanced concept of the first-hop last-hop by applying it a virtual cislunar communication environment, and we believe this contributes to make a way applicable to an interoperable relay concept of the first hop last hop between the delay tolerant networking and space packet protocol standard.

  • We propose a multilayered-substrate-based power semiconductor discrete device package for a low switching loss and high heat dissipation. To verify the proposed package, cost-effective, low-temperature co-fired ceramic, multilayered substrates are used. A bare die is attached to an embedded cavity of the multilayered substrate. Because the height of the pad on the top plane of the die and the signal line on the substrate are the same, the length of the bond wires can be shortened. A large number of thermal vias with a high thermal conductivity are embedded in the multilayered substrate to increase the heat dissipation rate of the package. The packaged silicon carbide Schottky barrier diode satisfies the reliability testing of a high-temperature storage life and temperature humidity bias. At $175^{\circ}C$, the forward current is 7 A at a forward voltage of 1.13 V, and the reverse leakage current is below 100 lA up to a reverse voltage of 980 V. The measured maximum reverse current ($I_{RM}$), reverse recovery time ($T_{rr}$), and reverse recovery charge ($Q_{rr}$) are 2.4 A, 16.6 ns, and 19.92 nC, respectively, at a reverse voltage of 300 V and di/dt equal to $300A/{\mu}s$.

  • IETF 6LoWPAN standard technique has been studied in IoT environment to support the IPv6 packet communication. 6LoWPAN protocol for transmission of packets mainly in the AODV routing protocol and a variety of extended techniques have been investigated. In particular, consisting of nodes with limited resources in a network error occurs when the 6LoWPAN reliable data transfer and fast routing method is needed. To this end, in this paper, we propose resilient routing protocol and extension of IETF LOAD algorithm, for optimal recovery path, More specifically, the optimal recovery path setup algorithm, signal flow, and detailed protocols for the verification of the reliability of packet transmission mathematical model is presented. The proposed protocol techniques to analyze the performance of the NS-3 performance through the simulation results that is end-to-end delay, throughput, packet delivery fraction and control packet overhead demonstrated excellence in comparison with existing LOAD.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the therapeutic effects of corticosteroid irrigations and normal saline irrigations in the early inflammatory state of the salivary gland. Materials and Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were divided into experimental (n=6) and control (n=3) groups. Inflammation was induced in the experimental subjects on both sides of the submandibular gland with ligation. After 14 days, both sides of the glands were de-ligated and retroductal irrigation using saline (n=3) and a corticosteroid (n=3) was performed on the left sides only. The controls (n=3) were used to normalize the gland state for the effects of diet and aging. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to confirm inflammation and post-irrigation gland recovery by measuring relative signal intensity (SI). The glands were excised for histological examination. Results: All experimental animals showed inflamed glands with increased SI and subsequent recovery of the gland with decreased SI to varying degrees. The SI of the controls showed no significant changes during the overall period. The mean SI change of the irrigated gland was higher than that of the non-irrigated side, without a significant difference. The corticosteroid-irrigated glands showed a greater change in SI than that of the saline-irrigated glands. Histology revealed that inflammation was not observed in most of the irrigated glands, while mild to moderate quantities inflammatory cells were found in non-irrigated glands. Conclusion: Corticosteroid irrigation mitigated the early stages of salivary gland inflammation more effectively than normal saline.

  • Fentanyl intoxication has occasionally been reported since fentanyl patches became available for medical use. Delayed post-hypoxic leukoencephalopathy is a complication of hypoxia. However, its neuropsychiatric symptoms can be delayed, and it can progress to leukoencephalopathy even after full recovery from coma due to acute intoxication. Herein, we report a case of fentanyl intoxication in a 65-year-old man who was presented to the hospital because of unconsciousness for 13 hours after using ten fentanyl patches simultaneously. Initial brain CT findings were non-specific. Twenty days later, delayed neuropathologic symptoms manifested, and MRI showed bilaterally symmetrical, heterogeneous, confluent high signal intensities on T2-weighted/fluid attenuated inversion recovery MRI in the cerebral white matter with diffusion restriction. This was followed by rapid exacerbation of neuropathological symptoms with diffuse severe cerebral atrophy over 1 year.

  • Although the electricity tariff for each customer class in Korea has an institutional basis which can be linked to cost fluctuations caused by the increase in fuel cost, there is a situation in which it cannot be raised in a timely manner, considering the national economic burden such as inflation. There can be some disagreements about unconditionally raising electricity rates when cost increases occur. It is, however, well known that Korean domestic electricity rates are very low around the world and are in an environment in which rates are not easily adjusted. Moreover, as Korean electricity rates cannot be easily raised due to various factors, domestic electricity rates for each customer class itself have not delivered a desirable price signal for power consumption. Based on historical data such as fuel costs and power production by power source from 2017 to 2020, this study estimated how much power consumption would change if electricity rates were adjusted in 2030 and price signal distortion was resolved. As a result of the estimation, power consumption will be reduced by 9,000 GWh if the current electricity bill is adjusted to a level which can be 100% recovered even with the supply cost alone. This led to a reduction of about 3.82 million CO2tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the Korean power sector.

  • As society has developed rapidly toward a highly advanced digital information age, a multimedia communication service for acquisition, transmission and storage of image data as well as voice has being commercialized. However, image data is always corrupted by various noises during image processing, so researches for removing noises have been continued until now. There are diverse types of noise on the image including salt and pepper noise, AWGN, and mixed noise. Hence, the filter algorithm for the image recovery was proposed that salt and pepper noise was processed by linear interpolation, histogram weighted values and median filter after defining the noise to lessen the impact of mixed noise added in the image, and AWGN was processed by the pixel information of local mask establishing the weighted values in this study. In addition, the algorithm was compared with the conventional methods for objectively and used the PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) as the basis of the determination.

  • Objectives : Patients with cervical ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) are susceptible to cord injury, which often develops into myelopathic symptoms. However, little is known regarding the prognostic factors that are involved in minor trauma. We evaluated the relationship between minor trauma and neurological outcome of OPLL and investigated the prognostic factors with a focus on compressive factors and intramedullary signal intensity (SI). Methods : A total of 74 patients with cervical myelopathy caused by OPLL at more than three-levels were treated with posterior decompression surgeries. We surveyed the space available for spinal cord (SAC), the severity of SI change on T2-weighted image, and diabetes mellitus (DM). The neurological outcome using Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scale was assessed at admission and at 12-month follow-up. Results : Among the variables tested, preoperative JOA score, severity of intramedullary SI, SAC, and DM were significantly related to neurological outcome. The mean preoperative JOA were $11.3{\pm}1.9$ for the 41 patients who did not have histories of trauma and $8.0{\pm}3.1$ for the 33 patients who had suffered minor traumas (p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in the recovery ratios between those two groups. Conclusions : Initial neurological status and high intramedullary SI in the preoperative phase were related to poorer postoperative outcomes. Moreover, the patients with no histories of DM and larger SACs exhibited better improvement than did the patients with DM and smaller SACs. Although the initial JOA scores were worse for the minor trauma patients than did those who had no trauma prior to surgery, minor trauma exerted no direct effects on the surgical outcomes.

  • Because wind generators (WGs) in a wind power plant (WPP) produce different active powers due to wake effects, the reactive power capability of each WG is different. This paper proposes a hierarchical voltage control scheme for a WPP that uses a WPP controller and WG controller. In the proposed scheme, the WPP controller determines a voltage error signal by using a PI controller and sends it to a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). Based on the reactive current-voltage ($I_Q-V$) characteristic of a DFIG, the DFIG injects an appropriate reactive power corresponding to the voltage error signal. To enhance the voltage recovery capability, the gains of the $I_Q-V$ characteristic of a DFIG are modified depending on its reactive current capability so that a DFIG with greater reactive current capability may inject more reactive power. The proposed scheme enables the WPP to recover the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) to the nominal value within a short time after a disturbance by using the adaptive $I_Q-V$ characteristics of a DFIG. The performance of the proposed scheme was investigated for a 100 MW WPP consisting of 20 units of 5 MW DFIGs for small and larger disturbances. The results show the proposed scheme successfully recovers the PCC voltage within a short time after a disturbance.

  • Most sensing and instrumentation systems should have very higher sampling rate than required data rate not to miss important information. This means that the system can be inefficient in some cases. This paper introduces two new research areas about information acquisition with high accuracy from less number of sampled data. One is Compressed Sensing technology (which obtains original information with as little samples as possible) and the other is Super-Resolution technology (which gains very high-resolution information from restrictively sampled data). This paper explains fundamental theories and reconstruction algorithms of compressed sensing technology and describes several applications to geophysical exploration. In addition, this paper explains the fundamentals of super-resolution technology and introduces recent research results and its applications, e.g. FRI (Finite Rate of Innovation) and LIMS (Least-squares based Iterative Multipath Super-resolution). In conclusion, this paper discusses how these technologies can be used in geophysical exploration systems.
