Designing a new signal is essential in the development of a new Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) system. This paper introduces the signal design parameters and the figures of merit (FoMs) to be considered in designing a new RNSS signal, and then reviews their relationship in details. In addition, we show examples of the trade-off analysis between FoMs according to the signal design scenarios using an analytical simulation tool based on the relationship between the signal design parameters and the FoMs.
The design of new navigation signals is a key factor in building new satellite navigation systems and/or modernizing existing legacy systems. Navigation signal design involves selecting candidate groups and evaluating and analyzing their signal performances. This process can be easily performed through software simulation especially at the beginning of the development phase. The analytical signal performance analysis software introduced in this study is implemented based on equations between the signal design parameters of Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) and the navigation signal figures-of-merit (FoMs). Therefore, this study briefly summarizes the RNSS signal design parameters and FoMs before introducing the developed software. After that, we explain the operating sequence of the implemented software including the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and calculate the FoMs of an example scenario to verify the feasibility of the software operations.
In order to reduce the time and cost of developing a navigation system, a performance evaluation platform can be used. A User Interface (UI) is required to effectively evaluate the performance, which sets parameters and gives navigation sensor signals and data display, and also displays navigation results. In this paper, a LabVIEW-based UI design method for multi-integrated navigation systems is proposed and implementation results are presented. The UI consists of a signal and data generation part and a signal and data processing part. The signal and data generation part sets parameters for the signal and data generation and displays the navigation sensor signal and data generation results. The signal and data processing part sets parameters for the signal and data processing and displays the navigation results. The signal and data generation part and signal and data processing part are designed to satisfy the requirements of the UI for a performance evaluation of the navigation system. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed UI design method, parameters of the signal and data generation and the signal and data processing are set through the LabVIEW-based UI, and the Global Positioning System (GPS) signal and inertial measurement unit data generation results and the navigation results of a GPS Software Defined Receiver (SDR) and inertial navigation system are confirmed. The implementation results show that the proposed UI design method helps users conduct an effective performance evaluation of navigation systems.
A camera system for the satellite application performs the mission of observation by measuring radiated light energy from the target on the earth. As a development stage of the system, the signal level analysis by estimating the number of electron collected in a pixel of an applied CCD is a basic tool for the performance analysis like SNR as well as the data path design of focal plane electronic. In this paper, two methods are presented for the calculation of the number of electrons for signal level analysis. One method is a quantitative assessment based on the CCD characteristics and design parameters of optical module of the system itself in which optical module works for concentrating the light energy onto the focal plane where CCD is located to convert light energy into electrical signal. The other method compares the design\ parameters of the system such as quantum efficiency, focal length and the aperture size of the optics in comparison with existing camera system in orbit. By this way, relative count of electrons to the existing camera system is estimated. The number of electrons, as signal level of the camera system, calculated by described methods is used to design input circuits of AD converter for interfacing the image signal coming from the CCD module in the focal plane electronics. This number is also used for the analysis of the signal level of the CCD output which is critical parameter to design data path between CCD and A/D converter. The FPE(Focal Plane Electronics) designer should decide whether the dividing-circuit is necessary or not between them from the analysis. If it is necessary, the optimized dividing factor of the level should be implemented. This paper describes the analysis of the electron count of a camera system for a satellite application and then of the signal level for the interface design between CCD and A/D converter using two methods. One is a quantitative assessment based on the design parameters of the camera system, the other method compares the design parameters in comparison with those of the existing camera system in orbit for relative counting of the electrons and the signal level estimation. Chapter 2 describes the radiometry of the camera system of a satellite application to show equations for electron counting, Chapter 3 describes a camera system briefly to explain the data flow of imagery information from CCD and Chapter 4 explains the two methods for the analysis of the number of electrons and the signal level. Then conclusion is made in chapter 5.

Typical negative group delay circuits (NGDC) are analyzed in terms of signal attenuation, group delay, and bandwidth using S-parameters. By inverting these formulations, we derive and present the design equations (for NGD circuit elements) for a desired specification of the two among the three parameters. The proposed design method is validated through simulation examples for narrow- and wide-band pulse inputs in the time and frequency domains. Moreover, an NGDC composed of lumped elements is fabricated at 1 GHz for measurement. As a function of frequency, the circuit-/EM-simulated and measured group delays are in good agreement. The provided simple NGDC design equations may be useful for many applications that require compensations of some signal delays.
The increasing high frequency capabilities of CMOS have resulted in increased RF and analog design in CMOS. Design of RF and analog circuits depends critically on device S-parameter characteristics, magnitude of real and imaginary components and their behavior as a function of frequency. Utilization of scaled high performance CMOS technologies poses challenges as concerns for reliability degradation mechanisms increase. It is important to understand and quantify the effects of the reliability degradation mechanisms on the S-parameters and in turn on small signal model parameters. Various physical effects influencing small-signal parameters, especially the transconductance and capacitances and their degradation dependence, are discussed in detail. The measured S-parameters of H-gate and T-gate devices in a frequency range from 0.5GHz to 40GHz. All intrinsic and extrinsic parameters are extracted from S-parameters measurements at a single bias point in saturation. In this paper we discuss the analysis of the small signal equivalent circuits of RF SOI MOSFET's verificated for the purpose of exacting the change of parameter of small signal equivalent model followed by device flame.

The structural design of arch roofs or bridges requires the analysis of their unstable behaviors depending on certain parameters defined in the arch shape. Their maintenance should estimate the parameters from observed data. However, since the critical parameters exist in the equilibrium paths of the arch, and a small change in such the parameters causes a significant change in their behaviors. Thus, estimation to find the critical ones should be carried out using a global search algorithm. In this paper we study the parameter estimation for a shallow arch by a quantum-inspired evolution algorithm. A cost functional to estimate the system parameters included in the arch consists of the difference between the observed signal and the estimated signal of the arch system. The design variables are shape, external load and damping constant in the arch system. We provide theoretical and numerical examples for estimation of the parameters from both contaminated data and pure data.
A raw signal simulator for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a useful tool for the design and implementation of SAR system. Also, in order to analyze and verify the developed SAR processor, the raw signal simulator is required. Moreover, there is the need for a test system to help designing new SAR sensors and mission of SAR system. The derived parameters of the SAR simulator also help to generate accurate SAR processing algorithms. Although the ultimate purpose of this research is to presents a general purpose SAR simulator, this paper presents a SAR simulator in frequency domain at the first step. The proposed simulator generates the raw signal by changing various simulation parameters such as antenna parameters, modulation parameters, and sampling parameters. It also uses the statistics from an actual SAR image to imitate actual physical scattering. This paper introduces the procedures and parameters of the simulator, and presents the simulation results. Experiments have been conducted by comparing the simulated raw data with original raw SAR image. In addition, the simulated raw data have been verified through commercial SAR processing software.

In this paper, design and applications of a generalized, versatile and customizable IF signal generator that can model the modernized GPS and Galileo signal is given. It generates IF sampled data that can be directly used by a software receiver. Entire constellation of satellites which is independent of satellite-user geometry is easily determined using a real or simulated ephemeris data. Since the IF center frequency, sampling frequency and quantization bit number are user location dependent parameters, their effects are also considered in IF signal generator. The generalized IF signal generator will be very well suited for the development phase of a software receiver due to its versatility. The full access to the sampling frequency, front-end filter definition and ADC parameters also offers a great opportunity for cost-effective analysis of tracking loops and error mitigation techniques at the receiver level. Interference sources can be easily added to the generator to simulate specific environments. This software IF signal generator can also be used to feed a multi-frequency multi-system software receiver for the prototyping of a combined GPS/Galileo receiver. The test result using the generated signals and a real software receiver shows the effectiveness of the implemented IF signal generator.

This paper has focused on the Optimization of the cutting parameters for urning operation based on the Taguchi method. Four cutting parameters. nemely, cutting speed, feed depth of cut and nose radius are optimized with consideration of the surface roughness. The design and analysis of experiments are conducted to study the performance characteristic. The effects of these parameters on the surface roughness have been investigated using signal-to-noise(S/N) ratio and analy-sis of variance(ANOVA). The experiments have been performed using coated tungsten carbide inserts without any cutting fluid. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.
