Chemical characteristics of organic sludges generated from chemical product manufacturing industry (화학제품제조업에서 배출되는 유기성슬러지의 화학적 특성)

  • 원소분석 결과 평균값은 "화합물 및 화학제품 제조업"의 경우 C 33.06wt%, H 4.34wt%, O 24.81wt%, N 5.18wt%, S 0.72wt%로 나타났으며, "코크스, 석유 정제품 및 핵연료 제조업"의 경우 C 36.58wt%, H 4.74wt%, O 26.79wt%, N 5.09wt%, S 0.49wt%로 나타났다. 열중량분석 결과, B사에서 배출되는 슬러지는 $700^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 그리고 F와 N 사에서 배출되는 슬러지는 $600^{\circ}C$ 정도의 온도에서도 연소가 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 연소테스트 결과, 산화반응과 동시에 열분해 반응이 일어나 고농도의 일산화탄소가 배출된다.

Soil Carbon Cycling and Soil CO2 Efflux in a Red Pine (Pinus densiflora) Stand

  • This study was conducted to evaluate forest carbon cycling and soil $CO_2$ efflux rates in a 42-year-old pine (Pinus densiflora) stand located in Hamyang-gun, Korea. Aboveground and soil organic carbon storage, litterfall, litter decomposition, and soil $CO_2$ efflux rates were measured for one year. Estimated aboveground biomass carbon storage and increment in this stand were $3,250gC/m^2\;and\;156gC\;m^{-2}yr^{-1}$, respectively. Soil organic carbon storage at the depth of 30 cm was $10,260gC/m^2$ Mean organic carbon inputs by needle and total litterfall were $176gC\;m^{-2}yr^{-1}\;and\;235gC\;m^{-2}yr^{-1}$, respectively. Litter decomposition rates were faster in nne roots less than 2 mm diameter size ($<220\;g\;kg^{-1}yr^{-1}$) than in needle litter ($<120\;g\;kg^{-1}yr^{-1}$). Annual mean and total soil respiration rates were $0.37g\;CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ and $2,732g\;CO_2m^{-2}yr^{-1}$ during the study period. A strong positive relationship existed between soil $CO_2$ efflux and soil temperature (r=0.8149), while soil $CO_2$ efflux responded negatively to soil pH (r=-0.3582).

  • The optimum cultural conditions for production of yellow pigment by Monascus purpureus MMK2 were investigated in liquid culture. Monascus purpureus MMK2 was shown to give the maximum production of yellow pigment in the medium containing of 3.0% wheat flour, 0.15% $NaNO_3$, 0.25% $Na_2HPO_4\;12H_2O\;and\;0.15%\;MgSO_4\;7H_2O$. The optimal culture conditions for temperature and initial pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 6.5, respectively. The yellow pigment production reached a maximum level at the 7th day of cultivation.

  • The optimal culture conditions of Monascus purpureus MMK2 for production of red pigment were investigated in submerged culture. Monascus purpureus MMK2 showed a maximal production of red pigment in the medium containing of 3.0% wheat flour, $0.15%\;NaNO_3,\;0.25%\;Na_2HPO_4\;12H_2O$ and $0.15%\;MgSO_4\;7H_2O$. The optimal culture conditions of temperature and initial pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 6.5, respectively. The red pigment production reached to a maximal level at 7th day of cultivation.

  • A novel polymeric tablet of Tinidazole was formulated to treat Helicobacter pylori and Giardia lambria more efficiently, It was possible to reduce hepatotoxicity by controlling the release of Tinidazole after peroral administration. A gastric retentive formulation made of naturally occurring carbohydrate polymers and containing Tinidazole was tested in vitro for swelling and dissolution characteristics. Tinidazole tablets containing various concentration of either PEO or HPMC were prepared by the wet granulation method. In vitro release of Tinidazole at pH 1.2 and pH 6.8 buffer solutions was observed at $37^{\circ}C$ by using a KP dissolution method and an UV (313 nm) spectrophotometer. Compared to a commercial Tinidazole tablet, in vitro release of Tinidazole at both pH 1.2 and pH 6.8 buffer solutions significantly decreased as the concentration of PEO or HPMC in the tablet increased up. And the gastric retentive formulation hydrated and swelled back to about 50% of its original size in 30 min. Thus, it was possible to control the release of Tinidazole by changing the content of PEO or HPMC in the tablet, thereby manipulating the release rate and the retention of Tinidazole.

  • The optimum cultural conditions for production of Monascus natural pigment by Monascus purpureus MK2 were investigated in submerged culture. This strain was showed the maximum production of monascus natural pigment in the optimal medium of 3.0% wheat flour, 0.15% $NaNO_3$, 0.2% $K_{2}HPO_4$ and 0.05% $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_{2}O$, at pH 7.0. The maximum production of this pigment was achieved at $30^{\circ}C$ for 7 day cultivation under 130 rpm shaking. At optimal condition, Monascus purpureus MK2 produced 29.10, 36.84 and 48.92 units of yellow, orange and red pigment, respectively.

  • A taste sensor system composed of mini electrode array was built in a flow cell. Potentiometric signals from 9 electrodes were collected for drinking waters and alcoholic beverages which were diluted in a low concentration buffer solution (0.005 M Tris-$H_2SO_4$ pH 7.2) for the measurement. The measured results were treated with the principal component analysis (PCA), and grouped on a two or three dimensional PCA coordinate to discriminate the tastes of each beverage. It is demonstrated that the taste sensor system of this work may be used for the quality control of beverages in production or the examination of their taste variation in the market.

  • Mastic is a bleed resin formed in pistacia lentiscus tree extract form the anacatdiaceae family. Mastic is used as a food ingredient in the Mediteraanean resin, and has been used by local inhabitants as a traditional medicine for relief of upper abdominal discomfort, dyspepsiaand peptic ulcer. Clinically, mastic has been effective in the treatment of benign gastric and duodenal, ulcers, giving symptomatic relief and endoscopically proven healing. In this study, to enhance activiteies of poorly water soluble Mastic with oils, surfactants and cosurfactants and then the mixure was microemulsified in aqueous media under condition of gentle agitation and digestive motility that would be encountered in the gastrointestinal tract. Formulation development and screening were based on phase diagrams and characteristics of resultant microemulsion. For optimum mastic formulation, microemulsions with various ratio (w/w%) of mastics, oils, surfactants and cosurfactants were prepared and their solubility was evaluated by monitoring particles size in their buffer through visual asessment and electrophoretic light scattering spectrophotomerter (ELS). In vitro activity of self microemulsified mastic (SME mastic) was determined by minimum ingibition concentration (MIC) test against a panel of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) clinical strains. Additionally, in vivo activity of SME masitc was investigated us mouse infected by CH275 of H. pylori. The mean diameter of SME mastic was less then 100 nm in water and SME mastic was showed similar antiboisis effect compared to tometronidazole, clarithromycin and omeproazole. Consequently, SME mastic would be effective system to exterminate H. pylori. If mastic were dose with combined treatment, mastic might augur well for effect of H. pylori eradication as good remedy.

Determination of Complex Formation Constant of Sodium-Selective Ionophores in Solvent Polymeric Membranes (용매 고분자막 상에 고정된 나트륨 이온선택성 물질의 착물형성상수 결정)

  • The complex formation constants (${\beta}_{MLn}$) of potassium and various sodium-selective neutral carriers in solvent polymeric membranes have been determined using solvent polymeric membrane-based optodes and ion-selective electrodes (ISEs). Two different types of PVC-based membranes containing the H^+selective chromoionophore (ETH 5294) with and without a sodium ionophore (4-tert-bntylcalix[4]arenetetraacetic acid tetraethyl ester, ETH 2120, bis[(12-crown-4)methyl] dodecylmethylmalonate or monensin methyl ester) were prepared and their optical responses to either the changes in alkali metal cation (e.g., sodium and potassium) concentrations at a fixed pH (0.05 M Tris-HCl, pH 7.2) or varying pH at a fixed alkali metal cation concentration (0.1 M) were measured. The same type of membranes were also mounted in conventional electrode body and their potentiometric responses to varying pH at a fixed alkali metal cation concentration (0.1 M) were measured. The complex formation constants of the ligand could be calculated from the calibration plots of the relative absorbance vs. the activity ratios of cation and proton ($a_{M^+}/a_{H^+}$) and of the emf vs. pH. It was confirmed that the ratio values of the complex formation constants for the primary and interfering ions are closely related to the experimental selectivity coefficients of ISEs.

Induction of Apoptosis by Baicalein in Human Leukemia HL-60 Cells

  • Baicalein, a major flavonoid of extract from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, has been shown to exhibit antioxidant and anti proliferative effects. In the present study, we investigate the effects of baicalein on viability and induction of apoptosis in human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells. Baicalein was found to induce apoptosis of HL-60 cells in a concentration-dependent and time-dependent manner. When HL-60 cells were exposed to 100 $\mu\textrm{M}$ baicalein for 6h, the viability was decreased remarkably to 27% of control, whereas DNA fragmentation was significantly increased to 64%. Nucleosomal fragmentation of baicalein treated HL-60 cells, a hallmark of apoptosis, was further identified by agarose gel electrophoresis (DNA ladder). Flow cytometric analysis showed that apoptotic cells were increased to 66.6% after treatment with 100 $\mu\textrm{M}$ baicalein for 6 h. Baicalein-induced apoptosis of HL-60 cells was reduced by 1h pretreatment with inhibitor of caspases, z-Asp-$CH_2$-DCB. At 3 and 10 $\mu\textrm{M}$ of z-Asp-$CH_2$-DCB, DNA fragmentation of HL-60 cells induced by baicalein (50 $\mu\textrm{M}$) was 36.8 and 17.1 %, respectively, whereas, that of HL-60 cells treated by baicalein (50 $\mu\textrm{M}$) without pretreatment with inhibitor of caspases was 62.7%. These data suggest that baicalein induces apoptosis in human leukemia HL-60 cells, and that caspase enzymes might be involved in baicalein-induced apoptosis.
