Bumper Stay Design for Improving Frontal Crash Performance of Front Body (전방 차체의 정면 충돌성능 향상을 위한 범퍼 스테이 설계)

  • Front side member of the front impacted vehicle plays a key role in minimizing the impacting load transferred to the compartment. To perform that required function, axial collapse should be dominant during side member crashing and, prior to designing side member, it is crucial to minimize bending moment occurred at the front end. In this study, for FE model of a SUV front body, front impact analyses were carried to find out bumper stay design which effectively develope axial collapse in the side member. As a previous work, the thickness of side member reinforcement were changed. Next, the inner thickness of bumper stay was increased. Also, the bead shape and location were modified. Final front body model showed much more axial collapsed mode and enhanced crash performance. In addition, a stay of octagon section was adopted and that model exhibited distinctive increase in impact energy absorption.

Optimizing Design of Side Airbag Inflator using DOE Method (실험계획법을 이용한 측면 에어백 인플레이터 최적 설계)

  • For side airbag, the pipe type inflators have been wide used while the disk type inflators have been used for front airbag. For helping to prevent injury and death the airbag inflator system should be design with great care. The present study deal with optimizing the design of side airbag inflator by finite element analysis and design of experiment method. An optimization process was integrated to determine the optimum design variable values related to the side airbag inflator. Free shape optimization method has been carried out to find a optimal shape on an side airbag inflator model. Optimization of the air bag inflator was successfully developed using Sharpe optimization was carried out to find a new geometry. The improved results compared to the base design specification were achieved from design of experiment and optimization.

  • Mass spectra of the dammarane triterpenes having open side chain and $C_{20}-C_{25}-epoxy$ side chain were measured. Principal fragment ions were assigned and plausible mechanisms for the formation of the fragment ions were proposed. In general, the triter-penoids of $C_{20}-C_{25}-epoxy$ side chain. produce $h_{1}-species$ fragment ions by the deletion of side chain at $C_{20}-C_{22}$ bond and open side chain triterpenoids produce $h_{2}$ species fragmentions whose mass numbers are higher by two mass unit than those of $h_{1}$ species. The mass number of h species fragment ions will serve as the diagnostic tool for the elucidation of side chain structure of tetracyclic triterpenoids.

  • Viscous flow fields of side-by-side arranged two-dimensional floating bodies are numerically simulated by a Navier-Stokes equation solver. Two identical bodies with a narrow gap are forced to heave and sway motions. Square and rounded bilge hull forms are compared to find out the effects of vortex shedding on damping force. Wave height, force RAOs, added mass and damping coefficients including non-diagonal cross coefficients are calculated and a similarity between the wave height and force RAOs is discussed. CFD which can take into account of viscous damping and vortex shedding shows better results than linear potential theory.

  • In this paper, we describe the design method of carbody structure with side-buffer. Recently railroad industry has a new interest with stability, fixed time, low environment pollution and mass transportation. Accidents have little on the railroad but railroad industry is trying to minimize carbody damage and passenger injury in case of accidents. So a side-buffer having anti-climber is applied to meet each special needs. Carbody with side-buffer is assembled with aluminum(6005A-T6) parts that are extruded. As the results of the study, it is showed that carbody with side-buffer has sufficient energy absorbtion about crashworthiness.

  • SG-50 steel is an important material and used for manufacturing a pressure vessel which the gas piping. In this investigation, the elastic plastic fracture toughness of this material is evaluated by the an unloading compliance method according to the ASTM E813-97 and E1152-97 method on the smooth and side groove 1CT specimens. The effect of smooth and side groove is studied on the elastic plastic fracture toughness. The side grooved specimen is very useful in estimation of the J$_{IC}$. Because it is much easier than the smooth specimen to the onset of the ductile tearing by the R curve method. Besides, it improves the accuracy of toughness values, decreases the scattering of them and tunneling and shear lip by the side groove.e.

Recent advances in deep learning-based side-channel analysis

  • As side-channel analysis and machine learning algorithms share the same objective of classifying data, numerous studies have been proposed for adapting machine learning to side-channel analysis. However, a drawback of machine learning algorithms is that their performance depends on human engineering. Therefore, recent studies in the field focus on exploiting deep learning algorithms, which can extract features automatically from data. In this study, we survey recent advances in deep learning-based side-channel analysis. In particular, we outline how deep learning is applied to side-channel analysis, based on deep learning architectures and application methods. Furthermore, we describe its properties when using different architectures and application methods. Finally, we discuss our perspective on future research directions in this field.

  • Computational study has been undertaken to investigate the aerodynamic influence of side jet on a supersonic missile and to find a similarity condition between the flight condition and the wind tunnel testing. Tasks were peformed to validate the existing Raytheon test body with side jet, to simulate the flow inside the supersonic wind tunnel, and to compare the flow fields between the missile in free flight and that in the wind tunnel. Then sub-scale model of body-tail configuration was analyzed to estimate the influence of the side jet on the missile components. It is found that the influence of side jet is not as significant on the tail region as on the body surface and a simple algebraic formula for aerodynamic coefficients accounting for the side jet as a point force may be cautiously utilized in setting up control logic.

WAKE CHARACTERISTICS BEHIND TWO SPHERES IN A SIDE-BY-SIDE ARRANGEMENT (병렬로 배열된 두 개의 구에서 발생하는 후류의 특성 연구)

  • Numerical simulation of laminar flow over two spheres in a side-by-side arrangement is carried out to investigate the effect of the inter-sphere spacing on the flow characteristics. The Reynolds numbers considered are 100, 250, and 300, covering the steady axisymmetric, steady planar-symmetric, and unsteady planar-symmetric flows in the case of a single sphere. Results show that the drag and lift coefficients and wake structures are significantly modified depending on both the Reynolds number and the spacing between the spheres. At Re=100, the flow is steady planar-symmetric irrespective of the spacing, but it shows some variation according to the spacing at Re=250 and 300. That is, the flow maintains planar symmetry of the single-sphere wake at large spacings, while it loses the symmetry at small spacings due to the generation of new asymmetric vortical structures. It is also shown that the drag and lift coefficients generally increase with decreasing inter-sphere spacing because the high pressure region is formed near the gap between the spheres.
