  • In this study, the flow analyses by type of shock absorber orifice were carried out. A shock absorber is indispensable for the ride comfort that is important at the standard of a good car. As the analysis procedure, the actual speed of the shock absorber was set as the flow rate when the cylinder was advanced. And the flow analysis results on models A, B and C of shock absorber models were compared with each other. As the examination on the flow orifice in the vicinity of each model through the analysis of flow, the performance of shock absorber were recognized. On the whole, model A had the fastest flow rate and also had the largest flow rate. Model B had the slowest flow rate and the flow rate features of models B and C with the same number of orifices were similar. Through this study, it is possible to see which shock absorber orifice model facilitates the flow inside the cylinder and increases the ride comfort. It is seen that this analysis result on the flow analyses by type of shock absorber orifice can be applied by converging with the field of design.

  • A satellite is exposed to various impact environment until orbit entry. It is particularly undergoing the biggest impact by pyro shock, which is generated when the launch vehicle stages are separated or the satellite is separated from the launch vehicle. In this paper, due to the fact that the pyro shock is prerequisite for performing the test and verification on the ground, we developed an air-gun type shock tester for NEXTSat-1 shock test at the KAIST SaTReC along with the development of program introduced by LabVIEW software. The program operated in shock tester is consist of data measurement and analysis with the convenient implementation of user interface and its easy modification of the code.

  • Shock-resistance test for a real equipment for a normal vessel is one of the difficult problem in many cases because of terrible cost and weight. An analysis technique to evaluate the shock resistance in a design stage is necessary, instead In this paper, the process to evaluate the shock resistance of a propulsion motor for naval vessels was presented based on German navy's BV043 regulation. The shock signal to impose the equipment under the test was first evaluated, and was then applied to the structural FE model of the equipment. From the transient FEA, the time history of von-Mises stress was obtained by the mode superposition method. The shock resistance was evaluated using the peak value of the von-Mises stress.

  • A transient T-F(time-frequency) signal processing technique is applied to a tilt drop and a linear shock test rigs for identification of shock characteristics of hard disk drive (HDD). The T-F technique essentially tracks the shock characteristics of pivot point response as well as head slap and lift-off phenomena. From the T-F analysis result, the shock characteristic in HDD is modeled by the two degree of freedom coupled-dynamic system, which consists of actuator arm and suspension. As shock designing tool, the maximax shock response spectrum is employed for prediction of shock performance. Finally, the shock control technique is tested with newly designed actuator arm and suspension. Experimental head slap test result shows that the shock performance is much higher with the new shockproof designed model than the current model

  • This paper describes electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant. Electric shock accidents mostly involve damage of human life, in comparison with electrical fire, rate of human death tend to be higher in electric shock accidents. Specially, in a high voltage facilities rate of human death comprised about 43.7% by electric shock accidents. If electric shock accidents happen in a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant, then the power plant discontinue power production. Electric shock accidents in a power plant have a great ripple effect such as an electric power shortage. In this paper, we analyzed electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant. From the analysis results, we confirmed a cause of electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker, it happened by defect of interlock equipment or occurrence of breakdown between first feeder contactor and shielding plate. In order to reduce electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker, the power plant should consider improvement of interlock equipment and insulation of feeder contactor in circuit breaker.

  • The important issue of equipment installed in maritime weapon system is shock survivability against underwater explosion(UNDEX). If the shock survivability of equipment should not be guaranteed, the successful mission also could not be achieved. For that reason, the shock-resistance of each equipment under UNDEX environment should be demonstrated before deployment at combat field. However, the actual UNDEX test on the ocean is too expensive to conduct. Also, it has diverse dangerous factors. The main characteristic of UNDEX is a dual-pulse shock. The vertical shock test machine able to simulate dual pulse shock signal on the ground will be introduced in this paper. The dual-pulse shock signal presented in certain shock standard was achieved with this shock-test machine on the ground. The analytical procedure to set a test condition was verified by comparing simulation result with experiment result.

  • In this paper, optimal spot weld layout design of the shock tower structure is performed for increasing fatigue life of spot weld and fatigue life of shock tower simultaneously. To predict the fatigue life, linear static analysis is conducted then fatigue analysis is performed by applying random vibration load. To optimize the spot weld layout, design variables that have an effect on spot weld fatigue life are selected. Based on the DOE table, spot weld fatigue analysis is conducted. Finally, response surface model is made from fatigue analysis results and optimized spot weld layout model which increases fatigue life of sport weld and fatigue life of shock tower is determined.

  • As the optical disk drives are designed for portable and hostile environment, they have a possibility to miss the track and not to read the data. The shock response of optical disk drives must be analyzed. This research shows the shock response analysis of the optical disk drive. The optical disk drive is modeled as the lumped parameter system in consideration of the pickup and the disk. The lumped parameter model is compared with finite element model in order to verify results. Finally, shock responses are compared with the change of the shock magnitude and the duration.

  • Various types of hydraulic shock absorbers are widely used in many fields because of its numerous advantages. However, in order to design adequate damping characteristics, accurate flow data near the orifices are required essentially. In this paper, a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code, FLUENT is adopted to investigate the flow characteristics near orifices of a shock absorber. Static pressure and velocity vector distributions, fluid path lines are presented for compression/tension strokes and various piston speeds. In order to validate the result of analysis, the numerically obtained damping forces are compared with those of analytical estimations obtained by modified Bernoulli equation. The results reported herein will provide better understanding of the detailed flow fields within shock absorber, and the CFD analysis method proposed in this paper can be used in the design of other types of hydraulic shock absorber.
