Standing in front of the huge benefits that shipping industry brings about in economy, politics and society of a country, many countries, especially the developing countries have strived hard to invest and develop their shipping industry (if any) by many methods such as economic reform act, tax allowance or even raising capital from domestic and foreign resources which seems very difficult to implement in the 21st century. According to analysis of A. Gerschenkron - a Russian economic historian at around 60 years ago, developing countries, who regarded shipping as an industry of strategic value with multi-dimensional affects for economic development, had utilized their backward advantages and imported modern technology, capital and skillful labor from more advanced countries in the course of fast industrialization in their countries. In fact, Gerschenkron model has applied in shipping industry of many backward countries. Korea's industrialization in shipping analyzed by Tae-Woo Lee (1996) could considered as a good example, in which the country makes use of policies on capital of tonnage finance, ideology, labor management in order to develop the industry. In this paper, the authors try to find the applicability of the Gerschenkron model to the shipping industry in developing countries, especially in Vietnam. And some questions which are necessary for the author's next paper about developing strategies to shipping industry in developing countries will be asked.

With the advent of Internet era, e-commerce has become the focus of human's life. It leads a new direction of social development. As the representative of traditional industry, shipping industry is confronted with a series of difficulties, which have to break through the traditional and existing model to make their business for survival. With the increasing pricking up of market competition, shipping industry is now facing development bottle neck, but e-commerce provides a new way to solve the problem. This paper firstly describes the existing forms of the e-commerce shipping platform. Secondly analyzes the data for the situation of shipping industry in China, the data for expected functions of an e-commerce shipping platform and the data for how to choose a specific e-commerce shipping platform. Thirdly analyzes the potential risks of establishing e-commerce shipping platform in China. Based on the above researched, the paper provides a suggested model of the shipping e-commerce shipping platform in China.

Shipping companies are key components of the logistics industry, which is extremely significant in enhancing the country's comprehensive national power and promoting global trade development. In the context of the implementation of the new development pattern strategy in China and the impact of the global novel coronavirus (COVID-19), this paper takes 22 Chinese shipping listed companies as the research object and analyses the operational efficiency of them from 2011 to 2020 based on the Super-SBM DEA Model and Window DEA Model. Factors affecting the efficiency are further analyzed with the Tobit model. The research conclude that the operational efficiency of Chinese shipping companies as a whole shows a steady increase from 2011 to 2020. Although most of them are in a relatively ef ective operation state, fewer are absolutely effective companies. Besides efficiency among companies differs obviously, which indicates the potential of further improvement and promotion. What's more, factors such as current economic development level, enterprise size, human resources quality and enterprise turnover speed have significant positive correlation to the operation efficiency of Chinese shipping listed companies, which is significant to improve the operation efficiency of Chinese shipping companies.

In the light of necessary analysis on the cooperation and development between ports and shipping line, and the characteristic of cooperation between international ports and shipping lines, the article analyses the operating strategies in actual shipping lines benefits to the cooperation between ports and shipping lines. After all-round analysis on the cooperation and development between ports and shipping lines, the author presents the running model of ports and shipping lines in Far East, which is the integration of operation between ports and shipping lines (namely integration of logistics service network). To develop a shipping company insolvency prediction model, we sampled shipping companies that closed between 2005 and 2023. In addition, a closed company and a normal company with similar asset size were selected as a paired sample. For this study, data of a total of 82 companies, including 42 closed companies and 42 general companies, were obtained. These data were randomly divided into a training set (2/3 of data) and a testing set (1/3 of data). Training data were used to develop the model while test data were used to measure the accuracy of the model. In this study, a prediction model for Korean shipping insolvency was developed using financial ratio variables frequently used in previous studies. First, using the LASSO technique, main variables out of 24 independent variables were reduced to 9. Next, we set insolvent companies to 1 and normal companies to 0 and fitted logistic regression, LDA and QDA model. As a result, the accuracy of the prediction model was 82.14% for the QDA model, 78.57% for the logistic regression model, and 75.00% for the LDA model. In addition, variables 'Current ratio', 'Interest expenses to sales', 'Total assets turnover', and 'Operating income to sales' were analyzed as major variables affecting corporate insolvency.

본 연구는 정기선해운영업을 중심으로 해운산업에서의 전자상거래 활용 및 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 도출한 후, 도출된 영향요인들과 전자상거래 활용수준 및 성과간에 어떠한 인과관계가 있는지를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 우리나라 해운기업들의 내부환경변수인 해운기업특성과 외부환경변수인 해운환경특성이 전자상거래 활용수준에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지와 우리나라 해운기업들의 전자상거래 활용수준이 전자상거래 활용성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지의 2단계 연구모형을 구조방정식모델을 통해 실증분석하였다.

본 연구는 거시경제 충격이 우리나라 해운기업 안정성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 우리나라 해운기업의 부실 발생 빈도가 상대적으로 적다는 점을 고려하여 퍼스로짓모형을 통해 해운기업의 부실 확률을 추정하였다. 부실 예측모형 추정 결과, 총자산은 부실 확률과 음의 상관관계를 지닌 것으로 나타난 한편, 총부채는 부실 확률과 유의한 양의 상관관계가 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 부실 예측모형 추정결과를 바탕으로 총매출, 총자산 및 총부채 충격이 해운기업 부실 확률에 미치는 영향을 스트레스 테스트하였다. 스트레스 테스트 결과, 매출 및 총자산 감소는 해운기업의 재무 안정성을 크게 악화시키는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

This paper considers the problem of determining the cargo flow and the transportation mode in each trade route while satisfying the demand. Especially, the problem incorporates short sea shipping in Korea, which is becoming more important in order to improve efficiency of Logistics. The objective is to minimize the sum of shipping and inland transportation costs. To solve optimally the problem, this paper employs a linear programming model, which is an operations research technique for optimization. The problem is formulated by extending the well-known network design problem by considering capacity at seaport and limitation of total number of vehicles. The model is solved using CPLEX, a commercial linear program software. The test results using a real cargo flow data in Korea show that the model represents closely the real situation.

The use of the internet to facilitate commerce among companies promises vast benefits. Lots of e-marketplaces are building for several industries such as chemistry, airplane, and automobile industries. This study provides the new B2B EC business model for the shipping industry which concerns relatively massive fixed assets to be fully utilized. To be successful the proposed model gives participants useful information. To do this the expert system is constructed with the hybrid prediction system of neural network (NN) and memory based reasoning (MBR) with self-organizing map (SOM) and knowledge augmentation technique using qualitative reasoning (QR). The expert system supports participants useful information coping with dynamic market environment. with this shipping companies are induced to participate in the proposed e-marketplace and helped for exchanges easily. Also participants would utilize their assets fully through B2B exchanges.
