선박설계를 위한 계산유체역학의 활용에 대하여 (The Application of CED for Ship Design)

  • The issues associated with the application of CFD for ship design are addressed. It is quite certain that the CFD tools are very useful in evaluating hull forms a prior to traditional towing tank tests. However, the time-consuming pre-processing is an obstacle in the daily application of CFD tools to improve hull forms. The accuracy of computational modeling without sacrificing the usability of CFD system is also to be assessed. The wave generation is still predicted by using potential panel methods, while velocity profiles entering into propeller plane is solved using turbulent flow solvers. The choice of turbulence model is a key to predict nominal wake distribution within acceptable accuracy. The experimental data for CFD validation are invaluable to improve physical and numerical modeling. Other applications of CFD for ship design than hull form improvement are also given. It is certain that CFD can be a cost-effective tool for the design of new and better ships.

Twin-skeg형 컨테이너선 주위의 격자계 생성과 유동 해석 (Grid Generation and flow Analysis around a Twin-skeg Container Ship)

  • Twin-skeg type stern shapes are recently adopted for very large commercial ships. However it is difficult to apply a CFD system to a hull form having twin-skeg, since grid topology around a twin-skeg type stern is more complicated than that of a conventional single-screw ship, or of an open-shaft type twin-screw ship with center-skeg. In the present study a surface mesh generator and a multi-block field grid generation program have been developed for twin-skeg type stern. Furthermore, multi-block flow solvers are utilized for potential and viscous flow analysis around a twin-skeg type stern The present computational system is applied to a 15,000TEU container ship with twin-skeg to prove the applicability. Wave profiles and wake distribution are calculated using the developed flow analysis tools and the results are compared with towing tank measurements.

  • 프로펠러 회전면에서의 반류분포는 주로 모형시험에 의해서 규명되어 왔다. 이렇게 축적된 데이터베이스를 통해 선박의 기하학적 형상정보와 반류분포 사이의 입출력관계를 모델링할 수 있다면 선박 초기설계시 유사선종의 설계에 도움이 된다. 뉴로퍼지시스템은 예측, 분류, 진단 등의 매우 복잡한 문제를 해결하는 기법으로 다양한 공학분야에서 응용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이들 입출력 사이의 관계를 뉴로퍼지시스템으로 모델링하고 학습한 후 새로운 입력에 대한 출력값의 검토를 통해 그 유용성을 확인한다. 3차원 선미형상을 입력으로 하고 선체 모형시험으로 얻어진 프로펠러 회전면에서의 반류분포 값을 출력으로 사용하여 학습 및 추론을 해 보았다. 이를 통해 뉴로퍼지시스템을 초기 선박설계 단계에서 특히 선미형상을 결정할 때 유용한 것을 확인하였다.

입자영상유속계를 이용한 자항상태 모형선의 프로펠러 후류 계측 (Propeller Wake Measurement of a Model Ship in Self Propulsion Condition using Towed Underwater PIV)

  • A two-dimensional particle image velocimetry (2D PIV) system in a towing tank is employed to measure a wake field of a very large crude oil carrier model with rotating propeller in self propulsion condition, to identify characteristics of wake of a propeller working behind a ship. Phase-averaged and time-averaged flow fields are measured for a horizontal plane. Scale ratio of the model ship is 1/100 and Froude number is 0.142. By phase-averaging technique, trajectories of tip vortex and hub vortex are identified and characteristic secondary vortex distribution is observed in the hub vortex region. Propeller wake on the starboard side is more accelerated than that on the port side, due to the difference of inflow of propeller blades. The hub vortex trajectory tends to face the port side. With the fluctuation part of the phase-averaged velocity field, turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) is also derived. In the center of tip vortex and hub vortex region, high TKE concentration is observed. In addition, a time-averaged vector field is also measured and compared with phase-averaged vector field.

  • Recently, with oil price jumping and environmental issues, Green ship is paid deep attention to by ship owner, operator, builder, class and government. Fuel efficiency and reduction of $CO_2$ emissions are expected to have a strong influence on the design and operation of merchant ships. Many ship owners and operators are seeking the more economic method by the best operating route and the application of reliable and effective energy saving devices. With the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) in 2013 attention will more than ever be focused at achieving maximum fuel economy in the hydrodynamic design of hull forms, their appendages and propellers. IMO requirements for $CO_2$ emission for ships will now be implemented for vessels ordered from 1st January 2013. So far, a lot of new idea and patents have been proposed, tested, claimed and applied for various kinds of ship type. This paper shows numerical and experimental work related to a study on a energy saving devices particularly for fuller ship such as merchant vessel of Tanker and Bulker. From the bare hull wake measurements, typical upper/lower asymmetry of hull wake at the propeller disk was found. The pre-swirl duct have been designed and reviewed to recover the loss of propeller running in that condition. The general function of the pre-swirl duct was set to work against this asymmetry of wake and generate pre-swirled flow into the propeller against the propeller rotating direction.

스테레오 PTV와 스테레오 PIV에 의한 선박프로펠러 후류측정 (Measurements of a Ship's Propeller Wake with Stereoscopic-PIV and Stereoscopic-PTV)

  • Stereoscopic PTV and Stereoscopic-PIV measurements have been carried out for the studies of the wake of a ship's propeller. Stereoscopic photogrammetry based on a 3D-PTV principle was introduced using two high-definition cameras(1k x 1k, 30Hz). The arrangement of the two cameras was based on angular position. The pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors were based on Genetic Algorithm based 3D-PTV technique. The results obtained by both measurement systems have been compared at the advance ratio J=0.88(290 rpm, d=54 mm). Turbulent properties have also been compared each other at the same condition.

  • KRISO 3600TEU 콘테이너 이중모형선 주위 유동의 평균속도와 난류성분들을 풍동실험을 통해 실험적으로 연구하였다. 선미와 후류의 여러 단면에서의 속도분포를 x형의 열선 프로우브로 측정하여 평균속도와 레이놀즈 응력, 그리고 난류 운동에너지 등을 구하였다. 선미영역과 후류영역에서의 유동은 매우 복잡한 3차원 유동특성을 보여주고 있다. 측정 결과로부터 주유동 방향의 와 구조의 형성과 이러한 와 유동이 후류의 유동에 미치는 영향을 알 수 있었으며, 하류로 나아감에 따라 전단층 영역이 점차 확장되어짐을 확인하였다. 이와 같은 선체주위 유동의 난류 성분들의 측정은 향후 수치계산 및 정확한 난류모델의 개발에 비교자료로 사용되어질 것이다.

와류생성기에 의한 선체반류 및 프로펠러 캐비테이션 특성 연구 (Study of Ship Wake Characteristics and the Propeller Cavitation by a Vortex Generator)

  • This paper systematically investigates and correlates pressure fluctuation and nominal wake characteristics according to the angle of the vortex generators by introducing the angle adjustment method of the Vortex Generator (VG). The vortex generators are installed at the port and starboard of a model ship. The vortex generator performance test is executed on a model ship installed in the Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT) and the angle of VG is freely controlled by a servo motor. The systematic test results for the vortex generator show that the well-designed VG is an effective appendage for reducing the pressure fluctuation level and shows the direction of VG's angular design optimization.

대형 와 모사법 (LES)을 이용한 사각 실린더 주위의 난류 유동장 해석 (Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent flow around a Square Cylinder)

  • This study has investigated the turbulent flow around a square cylinder by using LES (large eddy simulation). Numerical simulations are performed for turbulent flow fields with Re = 22,000. The computed results are in good agreement with existing computational and experimental data. The time-averaged and phase-averaged turbulent statistics around a square cylinder are discussed. Total 20 phase bins extracted from one cycle period showed detailed wake structures of the phase-averaged flow field. The center of Karman vortex sheets did not deviated ${\pm}0.5$ from centerline of square cylinder while moving downstream.

Improved version of LeMoS hybrid model for ambiguous grid densities

  • Application of the LeMoS hybrid (LH) URANS/LES method for the wake parameters prediction is considered. The wake fraction coefficient is calculated for inland ship model M1926 under shallow water conditions and compared to results of PIV measurements. It was shown that due to lack of the resolved turbulence at the interface between LES and RANS zones the artificial grid induced separations can occur. In order to overcome this drawback, a shielding function is introduced into LH model. The new version of the model is compared to the original one, RANS $k-{\omega}$ SST and SST-IDDES models. It is demonstrated that the proposed modification is robust and capable of wake prediction with satisfactory accuracy.
