  • Smart ships related studies are being conducted in various fields owing to the development of technology, and an engine room patrol robot that can patrol the unmanned engine room is one such study. A patrol robot moves around the engine room based on the information learned through artificial intelligence and checks the machine normality and occurrence of abnormalities such as water leakage, oil leakage, and fire. Study on engine room patrol robots is mainly conducted on machine detection using artificial intelligence, however study on movement and control is insufficient. This causes a problem in that even if a patrol robot detects an object, there is no way to move to the detected object. To secure maneuverability to quickly identify the presence of abnormality in the engine room, this study experimented with whether a patrol robot can determine the shortest path by applying the A* algorithm. Data were obtained by driving a small car equipped with LiDAR in the ship engine room and creating a map by mapping the obtained data with SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping). The starting point and arrival point of the patrol robot were set on the map, and the A* algorithm was applied to determine whether the shortest path from the starting point to the arrival point was found. Simulation confirmed that the shortest route was well searched while avoiding obstacles from the starting point to the arrival point on the map. Applying this to the engine room patrol robot is believed to help improve ship safety.

  • Marine accidents due to a loss of stability, have been gradually increasing over the last decade. Measures must be taken on the roll reduction of a ship. Amongst the measures, building an anti-roll tank in a ship is recognized as the most simple and effective way to reduce the roll motion. Therefore, this study aims to develop a computational model for a U-tube type anti-roll tank and to validate it by experiment. In particular, to validate the developed computational model, the height of the free surface in the tank was measured in the experiment. To develop a computational model, the mesh dependency test was carried out. Further, the effects of a turbulence model, time step size, and the number of iterations on the numerical solution were analyzed. In summary, a U-tube type anti-roll tank simulation had to be performed accurately with conditions of a realizable k-𝜖 turbulence model, 10-2s time step size, and 15 iterations. In validation, the two cases of measured data from the experiment were compared with the numerical results. In the present study, STAR-CCM+ (ver. 17.02), a RANS-based commercial solver was used.

  • Rapid change in the technological environment of marine transportation and the development of the ocean shipping industry have fostered a revolution in the port system. This in turn has caused major changes in the function and use of port in Korea. Aside from this. Mokpo Port, however continues to decline, because the existing port facilities and related subsystem are already obsolete with no chance of regaining operational effectiveness and treatment for proper implementation. Although a few studies have been done on the Mokpo Port, has not been found, any reseach for the analytical approach to the transportation system of it. This paper aims to make an extensive analysis of the physical distribution system in Mokpo Port focusing on the coordination of subsystems such as navigational aids system, quay handling and transfer system, storage system and inland transport system. The base of introduced simulation tool here is the queueing theory. The overall findings are as follows; 1. Among those vessels called at Mokpo Port in 1994, the average size of oceangoing vessels is 4,922.1 G/T, and the domestic is 317.8 G/T. The average arrival interval and service time of the domestic vessels are 6.0 hours and 24.1 hours respectively marking the berth occupation rate over 100%. Those for oceangoing vessels are 34.5 hours, 120.0 hours and 37.2%. In order to maintainin the berth occupation rate to 70% the capacity considering the 1994 of domestic piers must be extended to 145% and oceangoing vessels must be increased to 165% year called. 2. The capacity of approaching channel is enough to handle the total traffic volume. 3. Tugs are sufficiently being provided to handle all ships requiring their services 4. The capacity of storage and inland transportation systems are sufficient to handle the throughput and the yard stroage utilization rate of No.1 $\cdots$ No.5 is 4.5% and No.6 1S 30% of 1993's. 5. The utilization rate of LLc(Level Looping Crane) and PNT(PNeumaTic) are 2.7% and 18.8%, respectively. Practical solution and proposal for improvement of Transportation System in Mokpo Port are as follows; 1. To avoid the congestion in domestic pier introduction of a new port operation system is necessary allowing the domestic vessel to use the oceangoing pier. 2. To establish the port management information system to improve the efficiency of port operation. 3. To build a new storage system for high valued cargos including modernization of the present storage and handling system. 4. To insure the safety of navigation in approaching channel, The Vessel Traffic System including separation scheme is introduced. 5. To interest enormously on public relation to ship owner's association, shippers and consignees by showing that they can save cost and ship turnaround time in order to promote the call to Mokpo Port. At last, to be strategically change the function of Mokpo Port to the Leisure, Fishing & Ferry as well as Maritime port.

  • Hydrogen is being touted as one of the energy sources to combat the climate change crisis. However, hydrogen can leak into enclosed spaces, rise to the ceiling, accumulate, and cause fires and explosions if it encounters an ignition source. In particular, ships that transport hydrogen or use it as a fuel comprise multiple enclosed spaces. Therefore, the dif usion characteristics within these spaces must be understood to ensure the safe use of hydrogen. The purpose of this study is to experimentally determine the diffusion characteristics of helium, which has similar properties to hydrogen, in a closed space on board a ship, and to determine the change in the oxygen concentration along the leakage direction as the air change per hour(ACH) increases to 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 through CFD simulation. The study, results revealed that the oxygen concentration reduction rate was 2% for leakage in the -z direction and 1% for leakage in the +x and +z directions, and the ventilation time was 15 min 30 s for leakage in the -z direction, 7 min for leakage in the +x direction, and 9 min for leakage in the +z direction, showing that differences existed in the oxygen concentration and ventilation time depending on the leakage direction. In addition, no significant difference was observed in the rate of oxygen concentration reduction and ventilation time in all leakage directions from the ACH of 35 and above in the experimental space. Therefore, because the oxygen concentration and ventilation time were not improved by increasing the ACH, 35 was noted as the optimal ACH in this experimental environment.

  • Intra-block remarshalling is the task of rearranging into some target bays those containers whim are scattered around the block, so that the containers can be loaded onto the ship ffficiently. Howeuer, if we rearrange the containers without considering the container larding sequence, too mud! rehandling work will be required at the time rf larding to fetch the right containers whim are stacked under the wrong ones. Therefore, the remarshalling should be done by moving the relevant containers in an appropriate order. This paper presents an efficient heuristic search technique for finding an appropriate container moving order during remarshalling to avoid rehandling at the time of larding. Simulation experiments have shown that the proposed method can generate rehandling-free solutions in a real time.

  • Recently, terrestrial photogrammetry has been applied effectively to data acquisition in GIS and to monitoring precise machinery for simulation test. Because 3-D coordinates of many object points can be quickly measured with constant accuracy and easy modeling by this method. In this study, the composition concerned with multi-camera system which simultaneously analyzes structure from multi-station using various cameras was developed. The errors of results were analyzed to investigate the accuracy of the system, error of unknown points and control points, convergent and strip adjustment for optimal network design also. As results of this study, the efficiency of multi-camera system developed here was proved through application to monitoring the entire area of the precise model ship. We could also acquire 3-dimensional coordinates with good accuracy by arranging pass points. Therefore, possibility of measurement of instantaneous deformation as well as precision analysis of structures can be suggested.

  • When impact load is applied to a plate structure, a common phenomenon that occurs in structures is plastic deformation accompanied by a large strain and eventually it will experience a fracture accordingly. In this study, for the rational design against accidental limit state, the plastic material constants of steel plate which is formed by line heating and by cold bending procedure have been defined through the numerical simulation for the high speed tension test. The usefulness of the material constants included in Cowper-Symonds model and Johnson-Cook model with the assumption that strain rate can be neglected when strain rate is less than the intermediate speed is verified through comparing the present numerical results with those in references. This paper ends with describing the future study.

  • Recently, autonomous navigation technology, obstacle recognition, and obstacle collision avoidance technology are actively being developed for an unmanned surface vehicle (USV). The path to move from the current location to the destination should be planned, in order for an USV to autonomously operate safely to its destination. The dynamic window approach (DWA) is a well-known navigation scheme as a local path planning. The DWA algorithm derives the linear velocity and angular velocity by evaluating the destination direction, velocity, and distance from the obstacle. However, because DWA algorithm does not consider tracking the path, when using only the DWA algorithm, the ship may navigate away from the path line after avoiding obstacles. In this paper, we propose an improved DWA algorithm that can follow path line. And we implemented the simulation and compared the existing DWA algorithm with the improved DWA algorithm proposed in this paper. As a result, it is confirmed that the proposed DWA algorithm follows the path line better.
