  • The term 'module' is an architectural term. It refers to the components or systems that make up a finished product. As industries develop, modules have become one of the methods that can create diverse and creative designs. Traditional modular fashion design mainly focused on structural methods, such as the combination, assembly, overlap, and arrangement of modules, as well as the tessellation of geometric shapes. However, in this paper, significance lies in exploring the application of shape grammar, a design method in architecture, to fashion design. It aims to search for ways to express three-dimensional designs, derive designs that can be worn and produced, and propose fashion design by applying the rules of shape grammar to the design process. Through this analysis, the paper aims to examine the methods and characteristics of shape grammar. The research method of this paper is as follows. First, by utilizing optimized programs for implementing the modules of shape grammar, it was possible to propose a method for producing modules of shape grammar and suggest module designs. Additionally, effective methods of representation using the Clo 3D program were explored in the design development process. Second, by applying shape grammar to the fashion design process, five-dimensional modular fashion designs were proposed, including a bolero, dress 1, dress 2, setup, and coat. The proposed modular fashion design using shape grammar in this paper provides a rational design process that differentiates itself from traditional modular fashion design. By formalizing the shapes between modules and creating rules, it overcomes the limitations of design that rely on the designer's intuition or sensibility and enables the development of more diverse modular fashion designs. This application of shape grammar in fashion design can provide an important direction in exploring a sustainable fashion industry.

  • The absence of standardized architectural design configurations poses significant challenges in stakeholder collaboration during the pre-design phase, particularly for modular buildings. Clients often lack comprehensive knowledge of potential design configurations for their proposed buildings, leading to dissatisfaction upon project completion. This issue is exacerbated in office buildings where floor plan layouts are uncertain due to diverse employee needs. To address these challenges, this research introduces a BIM-based dataset for modular office buildings using shape grammar principles. The research manipulates the location of core modules (including staircases, elevator shafts, and entrances) based on shape grammar principles, resulting in twenty unique configurations that provide standardized options for BIM model development. The initial phase involves developing a naming convention based on shape grammar principles to determine the core module locations. Using this convention, BIM models for modular office buildings are created, forming a database connected to the frontend and backend of a recommender system. This system recommends three different design options to clients based on their specific needs, fostering improved collaboration in the pre-design phase by involving clients directly. The user interface of the recommender system aids clients in understanding potential office building configurations, thereby enhancing collaboration and decision-making. Through the amalgamation of shape grammar principles and BIM technology, this proposed system offers a promising approach to advancing efficiency and precision in architectural design communication and representation.

  • Recently automotive markets are on the way into maturing status with the mega merger between makers which brought equalizations of technology and upgrade of overall performance of vehicles. And the needs of automobile also changed into replacement buying from the entry buying. For the reason why it is the recent trend which has more importance on the software oriented element such as the sane design of vehicles than the hardware like the mechanical elements. This changing characteristics of market which requires more creativity and finished style treatment on an automotive design demand the concept of shape grammar for conducting shape on the macroscopic view. In this research the possibility has been observed to use the body proportion as the concept of the shape grammar for analyzing the relations between the form, sign, and perception as a basic principle of organizing shapes.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop formal design principles towards flexible house plan. A flexible house plan accomodates spatial requirements corresponding to change of life style and provides a way of saving architectural materials. Design properties as a basis for manipulation of room includes adjacency, orientation and geometrical information which are suited well to flexible design. This paper has developed a formal grammar of shape which can be utilized to transform house plan. Flexible design presented here is based on the idea of various operations of the shape grammar. The shape grammar, as a set of rules, specifies manipulations of shapes for reorganization of spatial relationships of rooms in a house plan. It lists exemplary rules in control knowledge which guides design processes for modifying a plan. An example taken from house plan design is used to ilustrate important aspects of the flexible design which fundamentally provides the basis for architectural material saving.

  • At the early design stage, a designer would develop a design through reviewing various alternatives. However, the limitation of human information handling capacity restricts what makes various alternatives. A way to overcome the limitation is to create the alternatives with computer power and the generative design concept with computer has been used. For the generative design, even if a great deal of methodologies has been presented, the core of methodologies would be the process of shapes which examine interrelationship among shapes and how shape can be changed with the interrelationship. The interrelationship can be represented as rules. To represent the rule, the shape grammar is suggested by Stiny in 1972 with the article of "Shape Grammars and the Generative Specification of Painting and Sculpture". The aim of this paper is to present a way of using generative design based on shape grammar for generating alternatives in 3D manner.

  • This research aimed to develop the district unit plan simulation using procedural modeling based on shape grammar. For this, Esri's CityEngine 2020.0 was selected as a main development tool, and Inside Commercial Area in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul as the research site where about 25% of the total area was developed over the past five years. Specifically, the research developed the simulation through the following three phases of Data-Information-Knowledge after selecting necessary parameters. In the Data phase, 2 and 3 dimensional data were obtained by utilizing data sharing platforms. In the next Information phase, the acquired data were generated into various procedural models according to the shape grammar, and the 2D and 3D layers were then integrated using relevant applications. In the final Knowledge phase, three-dimensional spatial analysis and storytelling contents were produced based on the integrated layer. As a result, the research suggests the following three implications for the simulation development. First, data accuracy and improvement of sharing platforms are needed in order to effectively carry out the simulation development. Second, the guidelines for district unit plans could be utilized and developed into shape grammar for procedural modeling. Third, procedural modeling is expected to be used as an alternative tool for communication and information delivery.

  • Isometric array grammar is one of the simplest model to generate picture languages, since both sides of its production rule have the same shape. In this paper, we have introduced isometric fuzzy regular array grammars to generate isometric fuzzy regular array languages and discussed its closure properties. Also, the relation between isometric fuzzy regular array grammar and boustrophedon fuzzy finite automata has been discussed. Moreover, we study the relation between two dimensional fuzzy regular grammars with returning fuzzy finite automata and boustrophedon fuzzy finite automata. Further, the hierarchy results of these three classes of languages have been discussed.

  • Qiang ethnic group is one of the fifty-six ethnic minorities in China, and Qiang embroidery, as an important achievement of Qiang's intangible cultural heritage, is the precipitation and testimony of the history and culture of the Qiang ethnic group. However, with the development of the times, traditional and ancient Qiang embroidery is facing a dilemma due to the problem of a single form of communication. Therefore, it is necessary to add new communication media for Qiang embroidery to help it spread and develop better. In this paper, we extract the core representative patterns of Qiang embroidery, use the "shape grammars" as the rules of morphological changes, and generate new decorative pattern patterns with the characteristics of Qiang embroidery by adding, deleting, mirroring, rotating, and other relevant rules of changes, and combine the new patterns with the rules of formal beauty to combine the layout, which is then applied in the design of different cultural creations and products. The new patterns are combined with the rules of formal beauty and applied in the design of different cultural and creative products. To provide a quantitative method for the digital protection of Qiang embroidery in the new era of Chinese traditional art, and also provide new ideas for the industrialization application.

  • The issues concerning the nature of the attitude toward the study of national language may vary from country to country, depending on the national or racial characteristics. The problem domains and the methodologies dealing with them may vary accordingly. Ever since the Korean language was equipped with a writing system in the year of 1443 through King Sejong's long-cherished desire, investigations have been constantly made into the real nature of the language itself in pursuit of a better method for representing the spoken language in written form. This is how the study of the Korean language began to take shape. Among such investigations are Hunmin-jeong-eum(the Korean script: 1446) compiled by Jiphyon-jon, the royal office of schloarly researches, Doongguk-jeonghun-yokhun (the orthodox script of Korean: 1448), Hongmu-jeonghun-yeokhun(interlinear gloss for the Chinese script of the Ming Dynasty: 1455), An Orthodox Approach to Written Korean (1909) by the institute of the National Script, Re Standardized Spelling System (1933) by Chosun Language Society, An Authorized Dictionary of Standard Korean (1936), How to Write Borrowed Words(1940), and A Grand dictionary of Korea (1947-57). Chu Shi-Gyung's Phonetics of the Korean Script(1908), Korean Grammar(1910), and Sound Patterns of Korean(1914) were all written in this vein; so was Choi Hyun-Bae's Uri-mal-bon (the rudiments of Korean Grammar: 1929/1937). All these achievements in the study of the Korean language are the end-products of the constant endeavor to solve the issues related to the spoken and written farms of the Korean language. And this is how the uniqueness and autonomy of the language study in korea have been established. It should be borne in mind, however, that, in seeking solutions to the problems inherent in the Korean linguistic studies of foreign countries. On the contrary, they have been very active in accommodating such results. While they have set up their problem domains on the basis of the korean language, they been progressively open-minded in looking for the solutions to the problems at hand.
