Design Optimization of a Staggered Dimpled Channel Using Neural Network Techniques (신경회로망기법을 사용한 엇갈린 딤플 유로의 최적설계)

  • This study presents a numerical procedure to optimize the shape of staggered dimple surface to enhance turbulent heat transfer in a rectangular channel. The RBNN method is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer with shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model. The dimple depth-to-dimple print diameter (d/D), channel height-to-dimple print diameter ratio (H/D), and dimple print diameter-to-pitch ratio (D/S) are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer related term and friction loss related term with a weighting factor. Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) is used to determine the training points as a mean of the design of experiment. The optimum shape shows remarkable performance in comparison with a reference shape.

  • A computerized numerical method is presented for the design and/or the investigation of RC members with general shape and material properties subjected to axial load and biaxial bending moment. Slenderness effects can also be considered with the use of the moment magnification factor. The method is based on the summation of stress result- ants on a small area of the cross section which enables the determination of strength interaction diagrams, load contours and moment-curvature relationships for the general section. Thus the presented program HYCOL can be used as a direct tool for design and/or investigation of RC members with general shape subjected to biaxial bending. The accuracy of program HYCOL is established by comparison with experimental results.

  • In the protein database search, 3D structural shape comparison for protein screening plays a important role. Protein databases have big size and have been grown rapidly. Exhaustive search methods cannot provide a satisfactory performance. As protein is composed of a set of spheres, the similarity calculation of two set of spheres is very expensive. Thus, a reasonable filtering method could be an answer for the speedup of protein screening. In this paper, we suggest a speedup method for protein screening with atom number and bounding sphere. We also show some experimental results for the validity of our method.

  • A simple finite element approach to predicting deformed shape and load-deflection curve of elastomers is presented in this paper. The method is based on several simplifications in deformation pattern and material behavior. The conventional updated Lagrangian approach is employed together with material data obtained by a simple tension test. The presented approach is verified through comparison of predicted results with experimental ones and applied successfully to shape design of various elastomers for shock, vibration and noise control. The advantage of the presented approach lies in easiness, simplicity and accuracy enough for engineering application.

  • A method of determining an optimum blank shape for non-circular deep drawing process is extended to the multi-stage deep drawing process. As an example concentric two-stage square deep drawing process is considered and the ideal blank shape with uniform cup height and without flange part after the process is constructed by the backward tracing of rigid plastic FEM. The conventional square blank shapes are also adopted for the comparison of two cases. As a result it is confirmed that the drawn products with better thickness strain distribution and deeper cup depth could be obtained by the suggested ideal blank shapes.

  • A new approach to die shape optimal design in extrusion is presented. The approach consists of a FEM analysis model to predict the value of the objective function a design model to relate the die profile with the design variables and a genetic algorithm based optimaization procedure. The approach was described in detail with emphasis on our modified micro genetic algorithm. Comparison with theoretical solutions was made to examine the validity of the predicted optimal die shapes. The approach was then applied to revealing the optimal die shapes with regard to various objective functions including those for which the design sensitivities can not be deter-mined analytically.

  • Section design of vehicle structure has been developed by two methods. One is the section property method which uses section property as a design variable. This method shows the tendency of an optimum section approximately. The other method is the section shape method which utilizes geometric parameter of section as a design variable. Practical solutions are obtained by this method. However, it is very expensive for large-scale problems due to the large number of geometric parameters. These two methods are compared through several sample problems. The finite element method is used for the structural and sensitivity analyses. The results are analyzed based on the number of function evaluations, the quality of cost function, the complexity of programing, and etc. The applications of both methods are also discussed.

  • A modeling technique of land rearrangement was proposed using Geographical Information System(GIS) based on PC ARC/INFO. Three regions with different slopes were chosen. At first, slope angle and direction were calculated, and lands were rearranged using various parameters. The required parameters are obtained from PC ARC/INFO and the design factors for land rearrangement. The shape of land before rearrangement could be compared with the shape of land after rearrangement. Besides the shape comparison, drain site could be determined and the information for cost of land rearrangement could be obtained. The system was integrated on a menu driven style with SML files and subprograms. GIS was proved to be useful for land rearrangement design.

  • This study is conducted to develop the high frequency inductor with ferro-yoke for the surface shape control. A 3- Dimensional simulation program based on the finite element method is developed for calculating electromagnetic field of the high frequency inductor. The validity of the program and the capability to control the liquid metal shape are confirmed by comparison between the results from calculation and those from measurement.

  • A study on image searching and management techniques is actively developed by user requirements for multimedia information that are existing as images, audios, texts data from various information processing devices. We had been studied an automatical shape region segmentation method using color. distribution and edge characteristics of moving images for. contents-base description. The Proposed method uses a color information quantized on human visual system and extracts overlapped regions to be matched by using edge characteristics of the image frame. The performance of the proposed method is represented by similarity for comparison to a segmented image and original image.
