  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the seven passions in terms of physical vector, and to understand the point of actions and directions. The result of this study will help us understand the aspect that the seven passions result in obesity and contribute in finding effective treatments. Methods : The characters of each seven passions were identified according to ${\ulcorner}$Hwangjenaekyung-Huangdineijing${\lrcorner}$. Results and Conclusions : 1. Each of the seven passions differs individually in physical characters in terms of points of actions and directions. 2. As the vector points of each seven passion work closely to digestive metabolism, and if the directions of vector clash into normal physiology, huge effects on obesity can be brought about. 3. Obesity, as a pathological situation, can be approached by canceling out all the vector elements of the seven passions. Here, the vector elements are basically regarded as the sources of obesity. 4. Psychological models of obesity can be applied for prevention and treatment.

  • The present study was carried out in order to develope a seven-hole pressure probe which is able to measure high flow angles. The seven-hole pressure probe is a non-nulling, directional velocity probe used for measuring three dimensional flow that having high flow angles. A 4 mm diameter seven-hole conical pressure probe was manufactured with a cone angle of 70$^{\circ}$. The probe was comprised of seven 1 mm diameter stainless steel tubes packed close together and fitted into an outer stainless steel sleeve. The calibration procedure is based on the use of the Callington's polynomial curve-fit method. The validity of the seven-hole conical pressure probe is demonstrated by comparisons with hot-wire data.

  • Objectives : Pulse diagnosis is considered particularly important among several methods of diagnosis in DongUiBoGam. In spite of its importance, numerous and various pulse descriptions made it difficult to learn and practice pulse diagnosis. In this article, we tried to analyze properties of the twenty-seven pulses from pulse diagnosis cases from DongUiBoGam to enable the practical understanding of pulse diagnosis. Methods : We constituted the four axis according to the eight important pulses. And we analyzed properties of the twenty-seven pulses through the relationship between the four pairs of important pulses and the twenty-seven pulses. To quantify the relevances of important pulses to the twenty-seven pulses, we used the term frequency-inverse document frequency(TF-IDF) method. Results : We could elicit properties of the twenty-seven pulses according to the four axis. Also, we reexamined the categorization of the seven exterior pulses / the eight interior pulses and the similar pulses from DongUiBoGam with the analysis results. Conclusions : We could understand properties of the twenty-seven pulses more specifically with the eight important pulses. And we also could see the relationship among the twenty-seven pulses on each axis. However, the limitation arising from insufficient number of pulse diagnosis cases in this research requires further research with more sources such as other traditional medical records or clinical records in the present time.

  • Objective : In Western medicine, the cause of obesity include overeating, lack of exercise, genetic factor, endocrinal impediment and psychological factor. Since the society becomes more complexed and the tensions among social members gets intensified, psychological factor getting more important. In Oriental medicine, Seven Emotion(七情, in oriental medical term) as an emotional stressor was thought to be a factor of obesity. Therefore the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between Seven Emotion and obesity in detail. Methods : overview the stress with the view of Oriental medicine and research the relationship between Seven Emotion as an emotional stressor and obesity. Results : 1. Seven Emotion can be understood as an emotional stress in Western medicine. If Seven Emotion is excessive, its extreme mental stimulation causes physical illness. 2. Having influence upon the function of internal organs, excessive Seven Emotion causes obesity. Since it hinders normal flow of Gangi(肝氣), Seven Emotion disturbs healthy function of Bi-Wi(脾胃) and normal fluctuation of Qi. Consequently, obesity is resulted from the accumulation of fat since normal metabolism of body is disrupted. 3. In Seven Emotion-Anger(怒), Joy(喜), Anxiety(憂), Thought(思), Sorrow(悲), Fear(恐), Surprise(驚)-give rise to Gan-bi-bul-wha(肝脾不和), Sim-hi-yang-huh(心脾兩虛), Bi-qi-huh(碑氣虛), Dam-sup-jeo-po(痰濕沮胞) and Wi-wha-sang-youm(胃火上炎) in type of symptom in obesity and therefore, cause obesity.

  • In this study, the unbalanced rigid rotor mounted on two pedestals is balanced u. ng the dynamic balancing procedure, and the compensating masses are estimated by the seven run method. Also, the reductions of vibration level are examined, before and after balancing procedures. In the experimental results, it is shown that the vibration amplitudes measured at the two pedestals are proportional to the unbalanced mass. The seven run method which requires measurement of vibration amplitudes only and not vibration phase angle is proved markedly useful in consideration of the dynamic balancing procedure.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider how Kim Young-hun approached and treated diseases caused by seven emotions using Cheonggang medical records database. Kim Young-hun often related seven emotions with qi, phlegm, fire and depressions of these three and with the loss of dignity (脫營). Records of seven emotions were especially concentrated in the 1950s, and it seems to have been influenced by the Korean war. The prescriptions which Kim used frequently were introduced as modified 六鬱湯. Analyzing the medicinal herbs Kim used, it was estimated that Kim would have applied "allevating phlegm and regulating qi" as the principle of the treatment of the seven emotions using 二陳湯 and Cyperus(香附子) with some adjustment of 利濕藥, 疏導藥, 淸熱藥, and 四物湯.

  • The theory of seven emotions is a unique theory in oriental medicine which describes the mutual relationship between body and mind of human. Although, the term 'Seven emotions' was not clearly indicated in ${\ulcorner}$The Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic(黃帝內經)${\lrcorner}$, it is appeared in ${\ulcorner}$A Treatise on the Three Catagories of Cause of Diseases(三因方)${\lrcorner}$ written by Chen Yan(陳言) in South-Song Dynasty. It seemed that Chen Yan explained seven emotions as the internal etiologic factor according to the classification of seven emotions of ${\ulcorner}$Ye-Gi(禮記)${\lrcorner}$ under the academic influence during Song Dynasy which emphasized more on the standard of right and wrong rather than individual emotion. Meditation or consideration modulates the function of spleen and stomach and the metabolism of blood and body fluid and it also controls the various emotions and maintains the equilibrium of human body. Human emotions are influenced by the changes of nature and deeply related to time and space including social-environmental factors. The function and strength of seven emotions: joy, anger, anxiety, worry, grief, apprehension and fright are determined by the external stimulation as the causes of illness.
