  • In this paper, we investigate an inventory and production system in a three-layer supply chain system involving a single supplier, single manufacturer and multiple retailers. Earlier study in this type of supply chain only consider a single raw material in order to produce single item, but we consider raw materials in order to produce multiple items. It is assumed that the cycle time at each stage is an integer multiple of the adjacent downstream stage. We develop an iterative solution procedure to find the order quantity for the multiple items and raw materials that minimizes the supply chain-wide total cost per unit time of the supplier and manufacturer's raw materials ordering and holding, setup and finished items holding, the retailer's ordering and inventory holding. Numerical examples are presented to show that the proposed heuristic gives good performance.

  • Ozone is a strong oxidant and a powerful disinfectant. In general, it has been used in drinking water treatment during last 100years. Ozone dissolution features are defined by the two categories of ozone contactors, bubble-diffuser and sidestream ozone contactor. Currently, sidestream-injection systems are gaining in popularity but operating cost might be slightly higher. Sidestream ozone system dissolve ozone into a sidestream flow via an injection setup or in the main process flow stream in some sidestream arrangements. The sidestream flow is subsequently mixed with the main process flow stream, which is directed to a reation tank or pipeline for oxidation and disinfection reactions. The purpose of this study is to suggest optimal operating pressure, to figure out the static-mixer effect and to understand the microbubble characteristics of ozone to improve dissolution efficiency.

  • The main advantages of DSPSRM lie in the simple robust construction, low manufacturing cost and simple driving circuit. Especially, it is possible to make shortly the axial length of DSPSRM. therefore, it is suitable to setup this motor in a narrow space. For practical use, prototype of DSPSRM was already manufactured. In this paper, we explain driving method and design driving circuit of DSPSRM. And then speed, torque and efficiency are measured. As a result of measurement, the torque was constant at normal speed and the speed was linearly increased as the current increase. Therefore, we verify that DSPSRM is suitable for low-speed fan load.

  • A general purpose experimental set-up has been designed and implemented for students to carry out various experiments on inverters in the power electronics laboratories of universities, during a few hours of laboratory work. This is the first inverter setup that incorporates hardware and software control, as well as an optional user interface in a laboratory experimental set-up of a single multi-purpose inverter, thus making the system versatile and very practical for both undergraduate and graduate students. The system can be controlled either by a computer or through a liquid crystal display (LCD) and a keypad control unit, and it constitutes a low-cost alternative to relatively expensive commercial teaching sets. The computer provides a user friendly interface and easier control for laboratory environments equipped with computers. The LCD and keypad units eliminate the need for a computer, which makes this system usable in the laboratory as a standalone unit as well.

  • This study proposes a fuzzy inventory model for managing large-scale production, incorporating cost considerations. The model accounts for two types of expenditure scenarios-parametric and exponential. Uncertainty surrounds holding costs, setup costs, and demand rates. The approach considers a supply chain system with a complex manufacturing process, factoring in transportation costs based on the quantity of goods and distance between the supplier and retailer. The initial crisp model is then transformed into a fuzzy simulation, incorporating specific fuzzy variables affecting inventory costs. The proposed method significantly reduces overall inventory costs for the entire supply chain. Retailer demand is linked to inventory levels, and vendor/distributor storage deteriorates over time. The fuzzy condition assumes hexagonal variables for all associated factors. The study employs the signed distance method for defuzzification to determine the optimal order quantity with hexagonal fuzzy numbers. Mathematical examples are provided to illustrate the practicality of the proposed approach.

  • An effective methodology is reported for the optimal design of multisite batch production/transportation and storage networks under uncertain demand forecasting. We assume that any given storage unit can store one material type which can be purchased from suppliers, internally produced, internally consumed, transported to or from other plant sites and/or sold to customers. We further assume that a storage unit is connected to all processing and transportation stages that consume/produce or move the material to which that storage unit is dedicated. Each processing stage transforms a set of feedstock materials or intermediates into a set of products with constant conversion factors. A batch transportation process can transfer one material or multiple materials at once between plant sites. The objective for optimization is to minimize the probability averaged total cost composed of raw material procurement, processing setup, transportation setup and inventory holding costs as well as the capital costs of processing stages and storage units. A novel production and inventory analysis formulation, the PSW(Periodic Square Wave) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average level of the storage inventory. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem can be reduced to two sub-problems. The first yields analytical solutions for determining lot sizes while the second is a separable concave minimization network flow subproblem whose solution yields the average material flow rates through the networks for the given demand forecast scenario. The result of this study will contribute to the optimal design and operation of large-scale supply chain system.

  • In the environment with multiple heterogeneous wireless sensor networks with a single point of sensed data collection or a gateway (GW), relay points (RPs) may be required for the energy efficient delivery of sensed data from static or mobile sinks to the GW. The optimal placement of RPs becomes an even more difficult problem if static sinks are dynamically added or the trajectory of mobile sinks can not be known in advance. In order to resolve this problem, we propose a mechanism to deploy RPs in a grid pattern and to use the tree-based relaying network for reducing the cost of the RP and for reducing the control overhead incurred by the route setup from sinks to the GW. For the performance evaluation of our proposed mechanism, we have carried out a numerical analysis on a single route setup from a sink to the GW and, for more general performance evaluations, ns-2 based simulations have been carried out. According to the performance evaluation results, our tree-based relaying network mechanism outperforms that based on AODV in terms of the data delivery time, the network service time and the control overhead.

  • Due to the rapid development of information & communication technology under high performance computing environments, the multimedia production techniques have been applied to a variety of multimedia fields such as general banner advertisements including texts, images and animations, and the internet-broadcasting dealing with videos and sounds. This paper presents an authoring tool with main functions to setup events objects (image, animation, sound, button, area) and to setup action functions, so that non-experts can easily produce multimedia including images, sounds, animations and so on. The authoring tool implemented in Java can be applied to the CD-ROM title production as well as the web-site construction. We can expect that when this authoring tool is used for in multimedia production, both cost and time will be reduced due to its convenience and powerful functions. We have a future plan to integrate intelligent multimedia presentation techniques with the presented tool for the autonomous multimedia authoring works.

  • An effective methodology is reported for determining the optimal lot size of batch processing and storage networks which include uncertain demand forecasting. We assume that any given storage unit can store one material type which can be purchased from suppliers, internally produced, infernally consumed, transported to or from other sites and/or sold to customers. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem can be reduced to two sub-problems. The first yields analytical solutions for determining lot sires while the second is a separable concave minimization network flow subproblem whose solution yields the average material flow rates through the networks for the given demand forecast scenario. The result of this study will contribute to the optimal design and operation of the global supply chain.
