  • The compressive strength of concrete is greatly affected by the temperature inside the concrete at the initial age immediately after pouring. The apparent activation energy of cement and the setting time of concrete are major factors influencing the development of compressive strength of concrete. This study measured the apparent activation energy and setting time according to the change in W/B for each mixing rate of Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag (GGBFS). And after calculating the compressive strength prediction model, the accuracy of the prediction model was evaluated by comparing the predicted compressive strength and the compressive strength.

  • Blossom-end rot is probably the most recognizable Ca deficiency that affects fruit production including pepper. We investigated the induction of blossom-end rot during the period of rapid vegetative growth and fruit setting, and the effect of Ca fertilization on the suppression of blossom-end rot in pepper plants grown in a plastic-film house. During the first fruit setting period, more than 60% of pepper fruits larger than 8 cm showed the symptoms of blossom-end rot. Under the condition of transpiration occurring at a much faster rate, growing leaves of pepper plants could be the greater sinks for Ca than developing fruits. The incidence of blossom-end rot was significantly decreased after two weeks of Ca fertigation. Calcium application during the rapid vegetative growth and fruit setting period could be suggested as a preventive step to overcome the local Ca deficiency inducing blossom-end rot of pepper fruits.

  • The effect of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) and alkaline activator on the properties of setting, compressive strength, drying shrinkage and resistance of carbonation was assessed to develop high volume slag concrete, the GGBS replacement rate of which was more than 80 percent. The changes in the concrete as the replacement rate of GGBS increases were as follows. Initial and final setting time was delayed by two and a half hours, and the compressive strength development properties of concrete in early and long term age were decreased. Drying shrinkage was satisfactory as below $6{\times}10^{-4}$ in every mixture, and yet showed a tangible trend by replacement rate. Carbonation was materially increased. Setting time and early strength development property, however, were extremely advanced by the addition of the alkaline activator. While drying shrinkage was improved by the alkaline activator, resistance to carbonation was not.

  • The heat setting of sewing thread is known to have some puckering. In this experiment, the P/C fabrec and polyester thread were heat setted at temperatures ranging from $70^{\circ}C$ to $150^{\circ}C$ at the interval of every $^20{\circ}C$ for the period of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 40 minutes resoectivly. The results obtained are as follows: 1) In general, the pre-laundering sewing shrinkage related negatively to time but related positively to temperature. And it showed the lowest rate at $110^{\circ}C$. 2) In case of slack treatment, the post-laundering sewing sewing shrinkage marked the lowest rate at $130^{\circ}C$ while that of stretch treatment showed the lowest rate at $90^{\circ}C$. 3) The rates of post-laundering sewing shrinkage were higher than those of pre-laundering shrinkage, the difference between them reached the bottom when applied the slack treatment at $130^{\circ}C$ and the streched treatment at $110^{\circ}C$.

  • Recently, as the alternatives to preserve environment such as effective usage of wastes or unusable resources are drawing attentions, researches and measures for the two tasks, which are reuse of waste wood and development of eco-friendly materials, are being examined and established in various fields. However, they are still insufficient. Therefore, in this study, for the efficient application of waste woods and eco-friendly effects, mortar was produced using sawdust as the waste wood and mineral material cement for combination, in order to produce inorganic boards using waste woods, which were made when sawing. This study attempted to suggest a basic material about the physical properties of mortar, which used waste woods, after examining the features of wood mixture rate, water-cement rate, congelation according to the mixture rate of the setting accelerator, specific gravity, compression intensity, and bending intensity as experiment factors.

  • This research is part of the research for unifying the mass concrete and utilizing the rate of super retarding agent. We analyzed the performance of super retarding agent under low temperature conditions. It was found that there was no deterioration in fluidity and air quality due to the change in the super retarding agent mixing rate. It was found that when super retarding agent was mixed up to 0.5 %, it was delayed for 22.3 hours at 20℃, 48.2 hours at 10℃, and 48.5 hours at 5℃. Therefore in order to ensure the performance required at the site, the super retarding agent mixing rate must be determined by fully considering the situation at the site. In addition it will be analyzed that super retarding agent performance analysis at high temperature will be required in subsequent studies.

  • Background: Mupirocin, a topical antimicrobial agent has been used for patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and recently mupirocin resistance was issued in some studies. The objective of this study was to analyze prescription patterns of topical mupirocin, to evaluate appropriateness of prescriptions in the ambulatory setting, and to compare frequency of mupirocin usage in South Korea with that in United States. Methods: Topical mupirocin prescription patterns (the number of prescription and a prescription period), and appropriateness of prescription (including a prescription rate over 10 days, a repeat prescription rate within 30 days and a prescription rate within labeled indications) were analyzed using the 2012 Health Insurance and Review and Assessment service-National Patient Sample dataset of South Korea. The National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey dataset was used to quantify topical mupirocin prescription in United States for comparison. Results: In South Korea, the prescriptions rate for use over 10 days was 3%, the repeat prescription rate within 30 days was 8.87% and the prescription proportion within labeled indications was 33.84%. The most frequent diagnostic code was nonbacterial infection. The prescription rate per 1000 population of topical mupirocin in South Korea was calculated to be 46.07, whereas in United States was calculated to be 13.10. Conclusion: Topical mupirocin has been used frequently and inappropriately, so further studies are required to investigate the rationale behind such prescribing mupirocin patterns.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate setting and thermal expansion of dental soldering investments. In order to compare expansion rates and to investigate the effect of water/powder ratio on expansion, setting and thermal expansion of low dental soldering investments were measured under three different water/powder ratio conditions. standard, 20% decreased and 20% increased. Setting expansion of investments was measured by use of dialgauge method. Each measurement was started two minutes later from the beginning of spatulation and recorded every one minute for one hour. Thermal expansion of cylindrical test specimens, 10mm diameter, 50mm length, was recorded in a thermodilatometer at heating rate of $10^{\circ}C$ per minute from $25^{\circ}C\;to\;700^{\circ}C$. The results of this study were obtained as follows: 1. Setting expansion rates under the standard water/powder ratio condition were 0.198% in Speed-E, 0.090% in Deguvest, 0.080% in CM and Hi-temp. Setting expansion of Speed-E was significantly different from those of CM, Deguvest and Hi-temp, and setting expansion of Deguvest was significantly different from those of CM and Hi-temp(p<.05). 2. Under the decreased water/powder ratio condition, there was significant increase in setting expansion of 4 dental soldering investments (p<.05). 3. There were no significant differences in setting expansions of investments except Hi-temp between standard and increased water/powder ratio condition(p<.05). 4. Thermal expansion rates under the standard water/powder ratio condition were 1.923% in Deguvest, 1.629% in Speed-E, 1.619% in Hi-temp and 1.580% in CM. No significant differences in thermal expansions under the standard water/powder ratio condition existed only between Speed-I and Hi-temp(p<.05) 5. Under the decreased water/powder ratio condition, there was significant increase in thermal expansion of CM and Deguvest but decrease in thermal expansion of Speed-E (p<.05). 6. Under the increased water/powder ratio condition, there was significant decrease in thermal expansion of CM, Deguvest and Speed-I but decrease in thermal expansion of Hi-temp(p<.05).
