There are various factors for determining object shape, such as size, slope and its direction, curvature, length, surface, angles between lines or planes, distribution of the model key points, and so on. Most of the object description and recognition methods are for the 2D space not for the 3D object space where the objects actually exist. In this study, 3D chain code operator, which is basically extension of 2D chain code, was proposed for object description and analysis in 3D space. Results show that the sequence of the 3D chain codes could be basis of a top-down approach for object recognition and modeling. In addition, the proposed method could be applicable to segment point cloud data such as LiDAR data.
This paper presents an attempt to apply Deep Learning technology to solve the problem of forecasting floods in urban areas. We employ Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), which are suitable for analyzing time series data, to learn observed data of river water and to predict the water level. To test the model, we use water observation data of a station in the Trinity river, Texas, the U.S., with data from 2013 to 2015 for training and data in 2016 for testing. Input of the neural networks is a 16-record-length sequence of 15-minute-interval time-series data, and output is the predicted value of the water level at the next 30 minutes and 60 minutes. In the experiment, we compare three Deep Learning models including standard RNN, RNN trained with Back Propagation Through Time (RNN-BPTT), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The prediction quality of LSTM can obtain Nash Efficiency exceeding 0.98, while the standard RNN and RNN-BPTT also provide very high accuracy.

The ground movement and changes in earth pressure due to the consecutive construction of retaining wall and underground space were studied experimentally. A soil tank having 160 cm in length and 120 cm in height, was manufactured to simulate the vertical excavation like retaining wall by using 10 separated right side walls and underground space excavation like tunnel by using 5 separated bottom walls. The variation of earth pressure and surface settlement were measured according to the excavation stages. The results showed that the decrease of earth pressure due to the wall movement can cause the increase of earth pressure of the neighboring walls proving the arching effect. Experiments simulating continuous construction sequence also identified arching effect, however only 50% of earth pressure was restored on the 10th right side wall due to the movement of 1st bottom side wall unusually.
Four-and-a-half LIM-only protein 3 (FHL3) is a member of the LIM protein superfamily and can participate in mediating protein-protein interaction by binding one another through their LIM domains. In this study, the 5'- and 3'- cDNA ends were characterized by RACE (Rapid Amplification of the cDNA Ends) methodology in combination with in silico cloning based on the partial cDNA sequence obtained. Bioinformatics analysis showed FHL3 protein contained four LIM domains and four LIM zinc-binding domains. In silico mapping assigned this gene to the gene cluster MTF1-INPP5B-SF3A3-FHL3-CGI-94 on pig chromosome 6 where several QTL affecting intramuscular fat and eye muscle area had previously been identified. Transcription of the FHL3 gene was detected in spleen, liver, kidney, small intestine, skeletal muscle, fat and stomach, with the greatest expression in skeletal muscle. The A/G polymorphism in exon II was significantly associated with birth weight, average daily gain before weaning, drip loss rate, water holding capacity and intramuscular fat in a Landrace-derived pig population. Together, the present study provided the useful information for further studies to determine the roles of FHL3 gene in the regulation of skeletal muscle cell growth and differentiation in pigs.

On the foundation of a database of genome sequences and protein analyses, the ability to clone a gene based on a peptide analysis is becoming more feasible and effective for identifying a specific gene and its protein product of interest. As such, the current study conducted a protein analysis using 2-D PAGE followed by MALDI- TOF and ESI-MS to identify a highly expressed gene product of C. parasitica. A distinctive and highly expressed protein spot with a molecular size of 47.2 kDa was randomly selected and MALDI-TOF MS analysis was conducted. A homology search indicated that the protein appeared to be a fungal enolase (enol). Meanwhile, multiple alignments of fungal enolases revealed a conserved amino acid sequence, from which degenerated primers were designed. A screening of the genomic $\lambda$ library of C. parasitica, using the PCR amplicon as a probe, was conducted to obtain the full-length gene, while RT-PCR was performed for the cDNA. The E. coli-expressed eno 1 exhibited enolase enzymatic activity, indicating that the cloned gene encoded the C. parasitica enolase. Moreover, ESI-MS of two of the separated peptides resolved from the protein spot on 2-D PAGE revealed sequences identical to the deduced sequences, suggesting that the cloned gene indeed encoded the resolved protein spot. Northern blot analysis indicated a consistent accumulation of an eno1 transcript during the cultivation.
Plant growth promoting fungi (PGPF) are well known for the production of useful secondary metabolites. However, limited information is available on the gibberellin (GA) production capacity of PGPF of endophytic origin. In the current study, 15 fungal endophytes were isolated from the roots of Crown daisy, and then screened on Waito-c rice, in order to identify plant growth promoting fungi. The fungal isolate MH7 significantly increased the shoot length (12.1 cm) of Waito-c in comparison with control treatment (7.9 cm). In a separate experiment, the culture filtrate (CF) of MH7 significantly promoted the growth attributes of Crown daisy. The MH7 CF was analyzed for gibberellins and it contained all physiologically active gibberellins ($GA_1$, 1.37 ng/ml; $GA_3$, 5.88 ng/ml; $GA_4$, 8.62 ng/ml; and $GA_7$, 2.05 ng/ml) in conjunction with physiologically inactive $GA_9$ (0.83 ng/ml), $GA_{12}$ (0.44 ng/ml), $GA_{15}$ (0.74 ng/ml), $GA_{19}$ (1.16 ng/ml), and $GA_{20}$ (0.98 ng/ml). The CF of MH7 produced higher amounts of $GA_3$, $GA_4$, $GA_7$, $GA_9$, and $GA_{12}$ than wild-type Fusarium fujikuroi, which was used as a control for GA production. The fungal isolate MH7 was later identified as a new strain of Penicillium on the basis of its morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of the 188 rDNA sequence.

Mannose-P-dolichol utilization defect 1 (MPDU1) gene is required for utilization of the mannose donor MPD in synthesis of both lipid-linked oligosaccharides (LLOs) and glycosylphosphatidylinositols (GPI) which are important for functions such as protein folding and membrane anchoring. The full length cDNA of the porcine MPDU1 was determined by in silico cloning and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). The deduced amino acid showed 91% identity to the corresponding human sequence with five predicted transmembrane regions. RT-PCR was performed to detect its expression pattern in five tissues and results showed that it is expressed ubiquitously among the tissues checked. A single nucleotide substitution resulting in the amino acid change (137 Tyr-137 His) was detected within exon 5. Allele frequencies in six pig breeds showed distinctive differences between those Chinese indigenous pigs breeds and European pigs. Using the pig/rodent somatic cell hybrid panel (SCHP), we mapped the porcine MPDU1 gene to SSC12, which is consistent with the comparative mapping result as conservative syntenic groups presented between human chromosome 17 and pig chromosome 12.
A genomic DNA fragment encoding a putative maltooligosyltrehalose trehalohydrolase (NfMTH) for trehalose biosynthesis was cloned by the degenerate primer- PCR from cyanobacterium Nostoc flagelliforme. The ORF of NfMTH is 1,848 bp in length and encodes 615 amino acid residues, constituting a 70 kDa protein. The deduced amino acid sequence of NfMTH contains 4 regions highly conserved for MTHs. By expression of NfMTH in E. coli, the function of this protein was demonstrated, where the recombinant protein catalyzed the hydrolysis of maltooligosyl trehalose to trehalose. The expressions of MTH and maltooligosyltrehalose synthase in the filaments of N. flagelliforme were upregulated significantly under dehydration stress, NaCl stress, and high temperature-drought stress. The accumulations of both trehalose and sucrose in the filaments of N. flagelliforme were also improved significantly under the above stresses. Furthermore, trehalose accumulated in smaller quantities than sucrose did when under NaCl stress, but accumulated in higher quantities than sucrose did when under temperature-drought stress, indicating that both trehalose and sucrose were involved in N. flagelliforme adapted to stresses and different strategies conducted in response to various stress conditions.
Most string problems and their solutions are relevant to diverse applications such as pattern matching, data compression, recently bioinformatics, and so on. However, there have been few works on the relations between string problems and cryptographic problems. In this paper, we consider the following string reconstruction problems and show how these problems can be applied to cryptography. Given a string x of length n over a constant-sized alphabet ${\sum}$ and a set W of strings of lengths at most an integer $k({\leq}n)$, the first problem is to find the sequence of strings in W that reconstruct x by the minimum number of concatenations. We propose an O(kn+L)-time algorithm for this problem, where L is the sum of all lengths of strings in a given set, using suffix trees and a shortest path algorithm for directed acyclic graphs. The other is a dynamic version of the first problem and we propose an $O(k^3n+L)$-time algorithm. Finally, we show that exponentiation problems that arise in cryptography can be successfully reduced to these problems and propose a new solution for exponentiation.

In this paper, we proposed a channel estimation method by impulse signal train in OFDM. In order to estimate the channel response, 4 impulse signals are generated and transmitted during one OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) symbol. The intervals between the impulse signals are all equal in time domain. At the receiver, the impulse response signals are summed and averaged. And then, the averaged impulse response signal is zero padded and fast Fourier transformed to obtain the channel estimation. The BER performance of the proposed method is compared with those of conventional estimation method using the long training sequence in fast fading environments. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves by 3 dB in terms of Eb/No, compared with the conventional method.
