  • To improve the visual servoing performance, several strategies were proposed in the past such as redundant feature points, using a point with different height and weighted selection of image features. The performance of these visual servoing methods depends on the configuration between the camera and object. And redundant feature points require much computation efforts. This paper proposes the visual servoing method based on the disturbance obsever, which compensates the upper off-diagonal component of image feature jacobian to be the null. The performance indices such as sensitivity for a measure of richness, sensitivity of the control to noise, and comtrollability are shown to be improved when the image feature Jacobian is given as a block diagonal matrix. Computer simulations are carried out for a UUMA560 robot and show some results to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • A visual servoing method has been proposed based on disturbance observer to eliminate the effect of the off-diagonal component of image feature Jacobian, since performance indices such as measurement sensitivity of visual features, sensitivity of the control to noise and controllability could be improved when an image feature Jacobian was given as a block diagonal matrix. In this paper, experimental results of disturbance observer-based visual servoing are discussed where Samsung FARAMAN-ASl 6-axis industrial robot manipulator is employed. Also, the feature saturator is proposed to stabilized the disturbance observer loop by saturating the differential changes of the image features.

  • [ $Moir{\acute{e}}$ ] interferometry is an optical method, providing whole field contour maps of in-plane displacements with high resolution. The demand for enhanced sensitivity in displacement measurements leads to the technique of microscopic $moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry. The method is an extension of the $moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry, and employs an optical microscope for the required spatial resolution. In this paper, the sensitivity of $moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry is enhanced by an order of magnitude using an immersion interferometry and the optical/digital fringe multiplication(O/DFM) method. In fringe patterns, the contour interval represents the displacement of 52 nm per fringe order. In order to estimate the reliability and the applicability of the optical system implemented, the measurements of rigid body displacements of grating mold and the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) for an aluminium block are performed. The system developed is applied to the measurement of thermal deformation in a flip chip plastic ball grid array package.

  • Naval ships have hull appendages which are more exposed to the outside because of its small block coefficient compared with commercial ships. These exposed hull appendages like skeg, strut and shaft line affect the maneuverability of a ship. The effect of hull appendages has considered at initial design stage to estimate more accurate maneuverability. In this paper, sensitivity analysis is used to analyze the effect on maneuverability by hull appendages. 3 DOF maneuvering equations based on Mathematical Modelling Group (MMG) model are used and propeller & rudder model are modified to reflect the characteristics of twin propeller & twin rudder. Numerical maneuvering simulations (Turning test, Zig-zag test) for benchmark naval vessel, David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB) 5415 are performed. In every simulation, it is calculated that stability indices and maneuverability characteristics (Tactical Dia., Advance, 1st Overshoot, Time of complete cycle) with respect to the parameters (area times lift coefficient slope, attachment location) of hull appendages. As a result, two regression formulas are established. One is the relation of maneuverability characteristics and stability indices and the other is the relation of stability indices and hull appendages.

  • PMFBG sensor was fabricated using phase mask and Excimer laser. The reflected wavelength of PMFBG sensor had dual peaks due to intrinsic birefringence. To discover the polarization axes, peak sensitivity was measured under compression test. The signal characteristics of PMFBG sensor were also examined in embedding condition. The embedded PMFBG sensor in epoxy block was loaded for the transverse strain measurements. Experiments showed that the PMFBG sensor could successfully measure the transverse strain. This PMFBG sensor is useful for the structures that require measuring transverse stram.

  • Previously we showed that $Ba^{2+}$ block of large conductance $Ca^{2+}$-activated $K^{+}$ (BK) channel was larger in the planar lipid bilayer formed with negatively-charged phosphatidylserine (PS) than neutral phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). In this work, have studied the blocking effect of two $K^{+}$ channel blockers with different mechanisms of action, $Ba^{2+}$ and tetraethylammonium (TEA), on BK channels of rat skeletal muscle. • In order to improve the spatial resolution of the gamma camera, the size of the hole in the collimator must be reduced, so the sensitivity is reduced. In order to improve the sensitivity, the size of the hole must be increased, and thus the spatial resolution is reduced. In other words, spatial resolution and sensitivity show opposite characteristics. In this study, a gamma camera was designed to improve both spatial resolution and sensitivity. In order to obtain higher sensitivity in gamma cameras with the same spatial resolution, the structure of the scintillator was designed differently from the existing system. A scintillation pixel was used, and a partition wall was placed between the scintillation pixels to prevent incident gamma rays from being transmitted to other scintillation pixels to interact. Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) simulation was performed to evaluate the performance of the designed gamma camera. When the same sensitivity as the block-type scintillator was obtained, the spatial resolution increased by 16.5%, and when the same spatial resolution was obtained, the sensitivity increased by 61.5%. It is considered that the use of the gamma camera designed in this study can improve the sensitivity compared to the existing system while securing excellent spatial resolution.

  • This paper proposes a wireless positioning method using the CDMA mobile communicaton network. The proposed method is time-based positioning method that uses mobile-station arrival time of forward link signal from base-stations. In this mehtod there are TDOA and TOA methods that use time-difference-of-arrival and time-of-arrival, respectively. Error characteristics and implementation simplicity of the two methods are compared and analyzed each other. As a results, it showed that TDOA has advantage of less sensitivity to the time error compared to TOA but has disadantage of more sensitivity to the spatial error. Also, from architecture of the CDMA system that is time synchronized to only active base-station it is analyzed that adoption of TDOA method is more advantageous than TOA because time difference of signal arrival from the neighbor base-stations against the active base-station can be measured more easily. Therefore, conclusion is made that TDOA is beat suit to the time-based positioning method for the present CDMA mobile communication networkgorithm performs block-by-block coherent decoding with the aid of pilot symbols. It is shown that the complexity of the algorithm grows linearly as a function of sequence length. The performance of the algorithm is shown to better than that of the conventional pilot symbol aided (PSI) algorithm. Simulation results are presented to assess the performance of the algorithm and the results are compared with that of the conventional PSI alforithm.

  • Background: Facet joint disease plays a major role in axial low-back pain. Few diagnostic tests and imaging methods for identifying this condition exist. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is reported that it has a high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing facet disease. We prospectively evaluated the use of bone scintigraphy with SPECT for the identification of patients with low back pain who would benefit from medial branch block. Methods: SPECT was performed on 33 patients clinically suspected of facet joint disease. After SPECT, an ultrasound guided medial branch block was performed on all patients. On 28 SPECT-positive patients, medial branch block was performed based on the SPECT findings. On 5 negative patients, medial branch block was performed based on clinical findings. For one month, we evaluated the patients using the visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index. SigmaStat and paired t-tests were used to analyze patient data and compare results. Results: Of the 33 patients, the ones who showed more than 50% reduction in VAS score were assigned 'responders'. SPECT positive patients showed a better response to medial branch blocks than negative patients, but no changes in the Oswestry disability index were seen. Conclusions: SPECT is a sensitive tool for the identification of facet joint disease and predicting the response to medial branch block.

  • In this paper, we proposed an extended edge-based line averaging method for deinterlacing with restricted search range. Conversion from interlaced signal to non-interlaced signal is one of important issues. Conventional deinterlacing algorithms usually utilize edge-based line average algorithm(ELA) within pixel-by-pixel approach. However, it is very sensitive to noise and variation of intensity. To reduce the sensitivity, the proposed method adopts a block-by-block approach and provides reliable direction of edge. Simulation results show that it provides a better performance than other pixel-by-pixel ELA-based methods.
