  • The present article endeavours to develop partial optional randomized - response technique (PORT) to deal with sensitive issues in presence of non-response in successive sampling. Calibration techniques have been embedded with PORT to estimate sensitive population mean at current move in two move successive sampling in presence of non-response. Optimum calibration weights are computed at each move with the aid of constraints based on auxiliary information. Detailed properties of the proposed estimators have been discussed. Possible cases in which non-response may creep at two moves has been explored. The proposed technique has been compared with the modified existing technique. Simulation results indicate that the proposed technique is more efficient than existing, modified one. Suitable recommendations are forwarded.

  • This paper explores not only emerging scientific problems but also the difficulties communicating air quality issues into an increasingly sensitive the public and policy arena. The public understanding and trust in air pollution information and indices may be very different to the notions of validity or accuracy that are important for a scientist. We operate in a world where openness requires us to reveal both the difficulties and disagreements in our understanding of the polluted atmosphere. Yet this can be confusing and increase complexity in situations where clear political and social decisions are required. I am going to examine these issues, starting with questions of what substances we regard as pollutants and the difficulties of getting the correct balance of concern given the broadening the base of chemicals emitted to the environment. There are also questions of exposure particularly in terms of vulnerable populations, who may spend large amounts of time indoors, where air is rarely monitored. In contemporary society there are pollution problems that extend far beyond urban areas and we have to consider regional issues such as windblown dusts, smoke from forest fires along with issues of the emission of green house gases and ozone depleting substances. Finally I will discuss the issues of communicating with a concerned public and sceptical politicians and the troubling interface between technological and sociological control. Such complexity is often missed in a maze of seemingly stronger political and social needs.

  • The use of sensors and actuators as a form of controlling cyber-physical systems in resource networks has been integrated and referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). However, the connectivity of many stand-alone IoT systems through the Internet introduces numerous security challenges as sensitive information is prone to be exposed to malicious users. In this paper, IoT based-security issues ontology is proposed to collect, examine, analyze, prepare, acquire and preserve evidence of IoT security issues challenges. Ontology development has consists three main steps, 1) domain, purpose and scope setting, 2) important terms acquisition, classes and class hierarchy conceptualization and 3) instances creation. Ontology congruent to this paper is method that will help to better understanding and defining terms of IoT based-security issue ontology. Our proposed IoT based-security issue ontology resulting from the protégé has a total of 44 classes and 43 subclasses.

  • Recently, railroad construction becomes an alternative considering environmental merits such as mass transportation, safety, economy and energy efficiency. Also railroad can have 3 to 4 times better in economy compared to road construction. However, long line and unavoidable sensitive areas hinders railroad construction often resulted in ecosystem degradation. This paper reviewed 27 cases of EIS submitted during 2003-2006 and reviewed major issues on Animal-Plants and Landscape. Noise-Vibration (13.5%), Water Quality (13.5%), Wastes (10.8%) appeared to be most frequent factors to supplement. Route selection in the railroad is the most sensitive issues so that public participation and hearing should be involved in the early stage of the process and social and cultural factors also must be considered to make a final decision on the railroad route location and selection.

  • Recently privacy breaches has been an social issues. If we should encrypt the sensitive information in order to protect the database, the leakage of the personal sensitive data will be reduced for sure. In this paper, we analyzed the existing protection algorithms to protect the personal sensitive data and proposed the combined method using the bucket index method and the bloom filters. Bucket index method applied on tuples data encryption method is the most widely used algorithm. But this method has the disadvantages of the data exposure because of the bucket index value presented. So we proposed the combined data encryption method using bucket index and the bloom filter. Features of the proposed scheme are the improved search performance of data as well as the protection of the data exposure.

  • Large quantity of bending deformation as well as rotating torque fluctuation at the balance shaft are main struggles during the operation in a high speed rotation and thereby, two issues should be cleared at the design process of balance shaft module. Since two issues are highly related with balance shaft itself and particularly much sensitive to the location of both supporting bearing and unbalance mass, the design strategy on balance shaft should be investigated at the aspect of controlling two critical issues at the early stage of balance shaft design. To tackle two main problems, the formulation of objective function that minimizes critical issues, both bending deformation as well as torque fluctuation, is suggested to derive the optimal information on balance shaft. Then, optimal informations are reviewed at the practical logics and the guideline at the selection of locations, both supporting bearing and unbalance mass, is addressed at the final chapter.

  • In recent years there has been much discussion about whether there is a critical, or sensitive period for language acquisition. Research on a critical period provides an excellent example around which we can organize a discussion of the behavioral and neural evidence. In this paper, the early history of critical periods and evidence for the existence of critical periods in various domains of human cognition and learning are reviewed. Followed by this overview, evidence for a critical period in both linguistic and non linguistic area are presented. The paper then provides some unresolved questions regarding a critical period in language acquisition and states what the outcome of this issues mean for an understanding of language acquisition. Finally the paper concludes with some educational implications of a critical period for practice.

  • In the surveys of sensitive issues of the population that is composed of several unknown-size stratum, we propose the unrelated question model with quantitative attribute by using stratified double sampling. And, we consider two types of sample allocations under the fixed cost, which are the proportional allocation, the optimum allocation. In efficiency, the proosed model is inferior to the unrelated question model with quantitative attribute by stratified sampling in case of the size of each stratum is known. But we find that efficiency of the proposed model is increased, when the selecting probability of sensitive question p is small and first stage sample size n' is large.

  • This paper discusses several basic issues of the 'focus' phenomenon. One of them is the issue of the nature of focus, i.e., what constituent of the sentences gets focused. Another is the issue of to what aspect of meaning the focus contributes. The other is the issue of the functions of focus-sensitive operators. As for the first issue, it is observed that the basic function of focus is to mark all and only the new information of the sentence. But for the cases in which this principle is not observed, it is proposed that the focus in these cases in general plays a secondary function of triggering an additional emphatic scalar meaning. And yet, in these cases, the state of the matter is different between free focus and bound focus. It is also shown that contrary to the general belief that free focus contributes to the meaning semantically. Concerning focus-sensitive operators, we classify them into two groups, i.e., quantificational and scalar operators, and try to formalize their meaning in the framework of Pulman's(1997) 'higher order unification theory'.
