Tantalum anodic oxide film was prepared in citric acid solution of various concentrations and the prepared Ta anodic oxide film was characterized by various electrochemical techniques and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The prepared Ta anodic oxide film showed typical n-type semiconducting properties and the dielectric properties were strongly dependent on the citric acid concentration. The variation of electrochemical and electronic properties was explained in terms of electrolyte anion incorporation into the anodic oxide film, which was supported by XPS measurements.
The chemical composition and the semiconducting properties of the passive films formed on Alloy 690 in various film formation conditions were investigated by XPS, photocurrent measurement, and Mott-Schottky analysis. The XPS and photocurrent spectra showed that the passive films formed on Alloy 690 in pH 8.5 buffer solution at ambient temperature, in air at $400^{\circ}C$, and in PWR condition comprise $Cr_2O_3$, $Cr(OH)_3$, ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$, NiO, and $Ni(OH)_2$. The thermally grown oxide in air and the passive film formed at high potential (0.3 $V_{SCE}$) in pH 8.5 buffer solution were highly Cr-enriched, whereas the films formed in PWR condition and that formed at low potential (-0.3 $V_{SCE}$) in pH 8.5 buffer solution showed relatively high Ni content and low Cr content. The Mott-Schottky plots exhibited n-type semiconductivity, inferring that the semiconducting properties of the passive films formed on Alloy 690 in various film formation conditions are dominated by Cr-substituted ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$. The donor density, i.e., concentration of oxygen vacancy, was measured to be $1.2{\times}10^{21}{\sim}4.6{\times}10^{21}cm^{-3}$ and lowered with increase in the Cr content in the passive film.

We investigated solution-processed indium-zinc oxide (IZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) by inserting a 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) buffer layer. This buffer layer efficiently tuned the energy level between the semiconducting oxide channel and metal electrode by increasing charge extraction, thereby enhancing the overall device performance: the IZO TFT with embedded PBD layer (thickness: 5 nm; width: $2,000{\mu}m$; length: $200{\mu}m$) exhibited a field-effect mobility of $1.31cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$, threshold voltage of 0.12 V, subthreshold swing of $0.87V\;decade^{-1}$, and on/off current ratio of $9.28{\times}10^5$.
Semiconducting metal oxides have been frequently used as gas sensing materials. While zinc oxide is a popular material for such applications, structures such as nanowires, nanorods and nanotubes, due to their large surface area, are natural candidates for use as gas sensors of higher sensitivity. The compound ZnO has been studied, due to its chemical and thermal stability, for use as an n-type semiconducting gas sensor. ZnO has a large exciton binding energy and a large bandgap energy at room temperature. Also, ZnO is sensitive to toxic and combustible gases. The NO gas properties of zinc oxide-single wall carbon nanotube (ZnO-SWCNT) composites were investigated. Fabrication includes the deposition of porous SWCNTs on thermally oxidized $SiO_2$ substrates followed by sputter deposition of Zn and thermal oxidation at $400^{\circ}C$ in oxygen. The Zn films were controlled to 50 nm thicknesses. The effects of microstructure and gas sensing properties were studied for process optimization through comparison of ZnO-SWCNT composites with ZnO film. The basic sensor response behavior to 10 ppm NO gas were checked at different operation temperatures in the range of $150-300^{\circ}C$. The highest sensor responses were observed at $300^{\circ}C$ in ZnO film and $250^{\circ}C$ in ZnO-SWCNT composites. The ZnO-SWCNT composite sensor showed a sensor response (~1300%) five times higher than that of pure ZnO thin film sensors at an operation temperature of $250^{\circ}C$.
The In2S3 thin films of tetragonal structure and In2O3 films of cubic structure were synthesized by a spin coating method from the organometallic compound precursor triethylammonium indium thioacetate ($[(Et)_3NH]^+[In(SCOCH_3)_4]^-$; TEA-InTAA). In order to determine the electron mobility of the spin-coated TEA-InTAA films, thin film transistors (TFTs) with an inverted structure using a gate dielectric of thermal oxide ($SiO_2$) was fabricated. These devices exhibited n-channel TFT characteristics with a field-effect electron mobility of $10.1cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ at a curing temperature of $500^{\circ}C$, indicating that the semiconducting thin film material is applicable for use in low-cost, solution-processed printable electronics.

We investigated the electrical characteristics of amorphous silicon-zinc-tin-oxide (a-SZTO) thin films deposited by RF-magnetron sputtering at room temperature depending on the deposition time. We fabricated a thin film transistor (TFT) with a bottom gate structure and various channel thicknesses. With increasing channel thickness, the threshold voltage shifted negatively from -0.44 V to -2.18 V, the on current ($I_{on}$) and field effect mobility (${\mu}_{FE}$) increased because of increasing carrier concentration. The a-SZTO film was fabricated and analyzed in terms of the contact resistance and channel resistance. In this study, the transmission line method (TLM) was adopted and investigated. With increasing channel thickness, the contact resistance and sheet resistance both decreased.
The semiconducting property of Sb-doped tin oxide thin film electrode was investigated and the electrocatalytic effect of this electrode for $SO_2$ (or sulfite, bisulfite ions) oxidation reaction was studied under various conditions. The anodic oxidation of $SO_2$ at tin oxide thin film electrode commenced at lower potential with increasing pH, and good electrocatalytic effect was shown of $SO_3^=$ oxidation in basic solution. In the acidic solutions the electrocatalytic effect of platinum-or palladium-incorporated tin oxide electrode was found to be due to the sites of Pt or Pd exposed on the electrode surface. The electrocatalytic effect of tin oxide electrode was distinctive from that of Pt-or Pd-containing electrodes.

Alizarin dye, a persistent and hazardous contaminant in aquatic environments, presents a pressing environmental concern. In the quest for efficient removal methods, adsorption has emerged as a versatile and sustainable approach. This study focuses on the development and application of Zinc Oxide/Nickel Oxide (ZnO/NiO) nano-composites as adsorbents for alizarin dye removal. These semiconducting metal oxide nano-composites exhibit synergistic properties, offering enhanced adsorption capabilities. Key parameters affecting alizarin removal, such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, and temperature, were systematically investigated. Notably, the ZnO/NiO nano-composite demonstrated superior performance, with a maximum alizarin removal percentage of 76.9 % at pH 6. The adsorption process followed a monolayer pattern, as suggested by the Langmuir model. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model provided a good fit to the experimental data. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the process is endothermic and thermodynamically favorable. These findings underscore the potential of ZnO/NiO nano-composites as effective and sustainable adsorbents for alizarin dye removal, with promising applications in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.

Properties of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with aluminum-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) anodes showed different behaviors from OLEDs with indium tin oxide (ITO) anodes according to driving conditions. OLEDs with ITO anodes gave higher current density and luminance in lower voltage region and better EL and power efficiency under lower current density conditions, However, OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes gave higher current density and luminance in higher voltage region over about 8V and better EL and power efficiency under higher current density over $200mA/cm^2$. These seemed to be due to the differences in conduction properties of semiconducting ZnO:Al and metallic ITO. OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes showed nearly saturated efficiency under high current driving conditions compared with those of OLEDs with ITO anodes. This meant better charge balance in OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes. These properties of OLEDs with ZnO:Al anodes are useful in making bright display devices with efficiency.
