The study is related to the synthesis of acrylic acid by selective oxidation of acrolein on Mo-V-W multicomponent mixed oxide catalysts. Mo-V-W-O(WVM), Mo-V-O/Mo-W-O(VM/WM), Mo-W-O/Mo-V-O(WM/VM) and mechanical mixtures of Mo-V-O and Mo-W-O(M-VM+WM) were prepared and characterized by BET, XRD, SEM and EPMA. Catalytic activity of these catalysts was tested in a continuous fixed bed reactor. In WVM catalysts small amount of tungsten added to VM increased surface area and selectivity of acrylic acid, but excess amount of tungsten decreased reaction rate of acrolein and selectivity. VM/WM catalysts, VM supported on WM, showed higher activity and selectivity than WM/VM catalysts where WM is supported on VM. Phase cooperation between WM and VM was observed in mechanical mixture of WM and VM and they showed higher yield than WM or VM.
Pd based catalysts were prepared by impregnating palladium precursor using incipient wetness method on $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $ZrO_2$, and $SiO_2$ and were applied for the selective oxidation of $H_2$ in the presence of CO. Their physicochemical properties were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), $N_2$-sorption, temperature programmed desorption of CO (CO-TPD) and (CO+$H_2O$)-TPD, temperature programmed reduction of CO (CO-TPR) and XPS a. The results of CO- and (CO+$H_2O$)-TPD showed the correlation between peak temperature of TPD and catalytic activities for $H_2$ and CO conversion. The $Pd/ZrO_2$ catalyst exhibited the highest conversion of $H_2$. The addition of $H_2O$ vapor promotes the conversion of $H_2$ and CO by inducing easy desorption of CO and $H_2$ in the competitive adsorption of $H_2O$, CO and $H_2$.
This paper analyzed the behavior of fixed-bed catalytic reactor (FBCR) which synthesizing maleic anhydride(MA) from the selective oxidation of n-butane. The behavior of FBCR describing convection-diffusion-reaction mechanism is examined by using two-dimensional pseudohomogeneous plug-flow transient model, with the kinetics of Langmuir-Hinshelwood type. Prediction model is composed by optimum parameter estimation from temperature profile, yield and conversion of single FBCR on operating condition variations of Sharma's pilot-plant experiment. A double FBCR with same yield and conversion for single FBCR generated a $8.96^{\circ}C$ lower hot spot temperature than a single FBCR. We could predict parametric sensitivity according to the variation of possible operating condition (temperature, concentration, volumetric flow of feed reactant and coolant flow rate) of single and double FBCR. Double FBCR showed the behavior of more operating range than single FBCR. Double FBCR with nonuniform activities could assure safety operation condition for the possible variation of operating condition. Also, double FBCR had slightly higher than the single FBCR in conversion and yield.

A simple heterogeneous system has been developed by using base treated manganese dioxide (B-$MnO_2$) for the aerobic oxidation of amines under mild reaction conditions of 1 atm of air and $50^{\circ}C$ in hexane. This system was highly efficient to oxidize various kinds of primary or secondary amines including aliphatic, aromatic, and hetero-atomic ones under the applied reaction conditions. Amines were oxidized to nitriles or diimines by the self-condensation or oxidative dehydrogenation through imine intermediate. The B-$MnO_2$ was reused for at least 5 times without any loss of its catalytic performance and showed its cost effectiveness, easy workup, and easy separation of the products for achieving the protocol of green chemistry.

This study is a part of project of urea-SCR system development for an in-use medium duty diesel engine. This study shows the effect of ammonia oxidation catalyst and SCR volume on $NO_X$ reduction performance. When AOC(Ammonia Oxidation Catalyst) is not used, the urea injection should be controlled accurately to prevent $NH_3$ slip. However, it is found that the accurate $NH_3$ slip control is not easy without AOC in real engine operating conditions, because $NH_3$ and $NO_X$ reaction characteristics change with many factors such as exhaust gas temperature and $NH_3$ absorbance on SCR. SCR volume is also one of important design parameters. This study shows that $NO_X$ reduction efficiency increases with increase of SCR volume especially at high space velocity and low exhaust gas temperature conditions. Additionally, this paper shows the emissions of EURO-2 medium duty diesel engine can be improved to the level of EURO-5 with a DPF and urea-SCR system.
$V_{2}O_{5}$/$TiO_{2}$ catalyst can be deactivated by ammonium salts formed by $SO_{2}$ oxidation and unreacted ammonium in presence of $SO_{2}$ in flue gas. The deactivation of catalyst by $SO_{2}$ depends on the $SO_{2}$ oxidation to $SO_{3}$. The oxidation of $SO_{2}$ is weakly affected by oxygen concentration, and strongly by the amount of vanadium loaded onto titania supports. Because unreacted ammonia is one of elements to form the ammonium salts, it is important to control the mole ratio of $NH_{3}/NOx$ in SCR. Thus the experiments about $NH_{3}/NOx$ were carried out. The reason of low activity of catalyst deactivated by ammonium salts is the change of pore volume. And TPD (Temperature Programmed Decomposition) was performed to find the decomposition of ammonium bisulfate on deactivated catalyst.

This research work reports the development of a Ruthenium/2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl (TEMPO)/nitrate catalyst system for the highly selective transformation of isosorbide (1,4:3,6-dianhydro-D-glucitol) to isosorbide-diketone (2,6-dioxabicyclo (3,3,0)octan-4,8-one). Isosorbide is a critical platform molecule for future manufacturing processes. TEMPO has been utilized to convert alcohols to carbonyl compounds for a long time. The optimal chemical reaction condition was found to be when using isosorbide (0.5 mmol) with supported Ru (10 mol%), TEMPO (5 mol%), and sodium nitrate (0.03 mmol) in the presence of acetic acid (3 ml) as a solvent at 50 ℃ and 1 atm oxygen pressure. This catalyst system demonstrated good selectivity (> 97%) and yield (87%) with respect to the desired product, in addition to a putative catalytic double oxidation mechanism.
Selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen monoxide by hydrogen ($H_2$-SCR of NO) over platinum catalysts impregnated on zirconia-incorporated silica ($ZrO_2-SiO_2$) and manganese oxide ($MnO_x$) was investigated. $Pt-MnO_x$ catalyst showed low conversions and low yields of $N_2O$ and $NO_2$ at $100{\sim}350^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, NO conversions over $Pt/ZrO_2-SiO_2$ were very high, but $N_2O$ was predominantly produced at $100-150^{\circ}C$ and the yield of $NO_2$ increased with temperature at $200-300^{\circ}C$, resulting in poor $N_2$ yields. $Pt-MnO_x/ZrO_2-SiO_2$ exhibited a small enhancement in $N_2$ yield at $100-150^{\circ}C$ due to the synergy of $MnO_x$ and $ZrO_2-SiO_2$. The surface composition and oxidation state of the catalyst components and the acidity of the catalysts were examined. IR spectra of the adsorption of NO and their subsequent reactions with hydrogen on these catalysts were also recorded. The variations of conversion and product yield according to the catalyst components in the $H_2$-SCR of NO were discussed in relation to their catalytic roles.

In combustion facilities, the nitrogen and sulfur in fossil fuels react with oxygen to generate air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOX) and sulfur oxides (SOX), which are harmful to the human body and cause environmental pollution. There are regulations worldwide to reduce NOX and SOX, and various technologies are being applied to meet these regulations. There are commercialized methods to reduce NOX and SOX emissions such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR), selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) and wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD), but due to the disadvantages of these methods, many studies have been conducted to simultaneously remove NOX and SOX. However, even in the NOX and SOX simultaneous removal methods, there are problems with wastewater generation due to oxidants and absorbents, costs incurred due to the use of catalysts and electrolysis to activate specific oxidants, and the harmfulness of gas oxidants themselves. Therefore, in this research, microbubbles generated in a high-pressure disperser and reducing agents were used to reduce costs and facilitate wastewater treatment in order to compensate for the shortcomings of the NOX, SOX simultaneous treatment method. It was confirmed through image processing and ESR (electron spin resonance) analysis that the disperser generates real microbubbles. NOX and SOX removal tests according to temperature were also conducted using only microbubbles. In addition, the removal efficiencies of NOX and SOX are about 75% and 99% using a reducing agent and microbubbles to reduce wastewater. When a small amount of oxidizing agent was added to this microbubble system, both NOX and SOX removal rates achieved 99% or more. Based on these findings, it is expected that this suggested method will contribute to solving the cost and environmental problems associated with the wet oxidation removal method.

Low-temperature conversion of nitrogen oxides using plasma-assisted hydrocarbon selective catalytic reduction of (HC-SCR) was investigated. Plasma was created in the catalyst-packed bed so that it could directly interact with the catalyst. The effect of the reaction temperature, the shape of catalyst, the concentration of n-heptane as a reducing agent, the oxygen content, the water vapor content and the energy density on $NO_x$ removal was examined. $NO_x$ conversion efficiencies achieved with the plasma-catalytic hybrid process at a temperature of $250^{\circ}C$ and an specific energy input (SIE) of $42J\;L^{-1}$ were 83% and 69% for one-dimensional Ag catalyst ($Ag\;(nanowire)/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$) and spherical Ag catalyst ($Ag\;(sphere)/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$), respectively, whereas that obtained with the catalyst-alone was considerably lower (about 30%) even with $Ag\;(nanowire)/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ under the same condition. The enhanced catalytic activity towards $NO_x$ conversion in the presence of plasma can be explained by the formation of more reactive $NO_2$ species and partially oxidized hydrocarbon intermediates from the oxidation of NO and n-heptane under plasma discharge. Increasing the SIE tended to improve $NO_x$ conversion efficiency, and so did the increase in the n-heptane concentration; however, a further increase in the n-heptane concentration beyond $C_1/NO_x$ ratio of 5 did not improve the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency any more. The increase in the humidity affected negatively the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency, resulting in lowering the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency at the higher water vapor content, because water molecules competed with $NO_x$ species for the same active site. The $NO_x$ conversion efficiency increased with increasing the oxygen content from 3 to 15%, in particular at low SIE values, because the formation of $NO_2$ and partially oxidized hydrocarbon intermediates was facilitated.
