퇴적물 재부유에 따른 유기물과 중금속 용출 및 용존산소량 변화 특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Releasing Characteristics of Organic Matter and Heavy Metals and Changes of Dissolved Oxygen Concentration during Sediment Resuspension)

  • The depletion of dissolved oxygen (DO) in urban streams has a profound effect on the aquatic ecosystem; however, the change in DO by resuspension of sediments and the cause have not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, the physicochemical properties (particle size, and the content of organic and heavy metals) of the sediments of an urban stream (Anyang Stream) and the characteristics of water quality changes (DO, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), dissolved nitrogen (DN), sediment oxygen demand (SOD), and adenosine triphosphate (ATP)) by sediment resuspension were investigated. The sediment content of fine particles (< 0.2 mm) increased from 36.7% to 52.7% from the upstream to the downstream, and the contents of heavy metals and organic matter of the sediment were also higher towards the downstream. The depletion of DO by resuspension was observed in the sediment at the downstream sites (P8, P9), where the fine particle content was high, and biological SOD (BSOD) was more than 88% compared to the total SOD. The increase in BSOD coincided with the increase in ATP. It was also confirmed that the depletion of DO could increase the amount of heavy metals (such as Fe, Mn, and Pb) released from the sediment. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that resuspension of sediments induces rapid water quality changes and may cause accidents, such as fish mortality, during rainfall, and such a water quality effect can be more pronounced in sediments with a high content of fine particles and organic matter and high biological activity.

Utilization of Food Sources Before and After the Tsunami in Nuttallia olivacea at Gamo Lagoon, Japan

  • This study was conducted June 2011 at Gamo Lagoon, after tsunami of March 2011, to estimate food sources and utilization. The results show that the tsunami affected the sediment properties by changing the physical environmental alterations. The fatty acids of the gut content of Nuttallia olivacea mostly comprised the same organic matter found in the sediment. Fatty acids in the tissues showed mainly diatoms, bacteria, and dinoflagellates. That is, most of the food sources (i.e., diatoms, bacteria, dinoflagellates, macroalgae, and terrestrial organic matter) probably pass through the digestive system unharmed; however, terrestrial organic matter, which is refractory to biochemical degradation, indicated a different assimilation trend between the gut content and the tissue. This result suggests that input of labile organic matter from the sediment may control selective metabolism in N. olivacea. From these results, although the physical environment of sediment characteristics by tsunami changed, the food utilization of N. olivacea suggested a better assimilation of selected components from the gut content, irrespective of physical alteration.

달포늪의 퇴적물과 유기물함량 특성 연구 (The Characteristics of Sediment and Organic Content in the Dalpo Wetland)

  • 본 연구에서는 양산 신불산 고층습원인 달포늪 퇴적물의 입도, 주상도 및 유기물함량을 분석하여 퇴적물 입도와 종류에 따른 유기물함량의 상관성을 규명하였다. 연구지역인 달포늪은 3개 습지로 구성되어 있으며, 습지면적은 약 $31,295m^2$ 이다. 달포늪 퇴적물의 입도분석은 7개 지점(습지A 3개, 습지B 3개 및 습지C 1개)에서 채취된 시료를 이용하였으며, 건식체분석과 피펫분석이 수행되었다. 입도분석 의하면 퇴적물 입도는 습지의 가장자리로 갈수록 크고, 습지A > 습지C > 습지B의 순으로 나타났다. 습지A와 습지B의 장축 및 단축과 습지C의 장축 방향에서 수평거리별 시추조사가 수행되었다. 습지A의 장축에서는 점토질 이탄층이 지표면하 심도 10~90cm 정도로 분포하고 있으며, 습지 중앙부인 수평거리 100 m 지점에서 지표면하 심도 90 cm로서 가장 두꺼웠다. 습지B에서는 점토질 이탄층의 지표면하 심도가 27 cm 이하로서 습지로서의 수명이 다해가고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 습지C는 규모가 적어 퇴적물의 조성이 단순하였으며, 점토질 이탄층이 지표면하 심도 10~34 cm 정도에 분포하고 있다. 달포늪에서 시추조사에 의해 채취된 퇴적물을 10 cm 간격으로 절단하여 유기물함량을 분석하였다. 습지A 퇴적물에서는 지표면하 심도 70 cm 정도까지 유기물함량이 40% 이상인 것으로 나타났으며, 습지C 퇴적물에서도 지표면하 심도 10 cm 정도까지는 습지A와 유사하였으나 지표면하 심도가 30 cm 이상인 깊이에서는 20% 이내의 유기물함량을 보였다. 습지B는 지표면하 부근에서의 유기물함량이 40% 정도로서 가장 낮게 나타났다. 3개 습지 모두 지표면에 근접한 점토질 이탄층에서의 유기물함량이 높게 나타났으며, 이는 점토질 이탄층의 입도가 세립질이며 또한 식생의 사체를 통해 유기물이 지속적으로 공급되기 때문이다. 달포늪 퇴적물의 유기물함량은 습지A > 습지C > 습지B의 순으로 나타났으며, 이는 퇴적물 내 점토질 이탄층의 형성 정도에 의한 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 달포늪 퇴적물의 유기물함량은 퇴적물의 입도와 상부 식생에 의해 지배되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

호소 퇴적물의 유기물 분포 (Distribution of the Organic Contents in Reservoir Sediment)

  • The organic contents of reservoir sediment can offer a good indicator to events in history of lake life. Reservoir sediment have many information of the past and future fingerprint about development direction of life cycle in biological animals. So, in this study we made an effort to know the distribution of organic contents in Daecheong reservoir sediment. Items for this investigations are such as follows: Loss on ignition, COD, Organic carbon, TN, TP, heavy metal contents, Loss on ignitions were determined in 6.44~15.91% and COD were determined in 1.606~6.859%, organic carbon in 1,077~3.743%. Contents of TP and TN were in the range of 0.083~0.757%, and 0.645~0.926%, respectively.

대천항 퇴적물의 유기물 및 중금속 분포 특성 (Distribution Characteristics of Organic Matter and Heavy Metal of Sediment in Daecheon Port)

  • In order to systematically and scientifically manage the organic and heavy metals against sediment at Daecheon Port, this study conducted particle composition, organic materials and heavy metals irradiation studies of sediments. Analysis of the grain size composition of sediments in the target study area showed the distribution characteristics of the mix of sand, silt and clay. That is, Station C (Stn. C) showed superior by fine-grained sediment, Station A and B (Stn. A and B) showed superior by coarse-grained sediment. The organic matter(COD, TOC, and IL) of Stn. C was appeared to be heavily polluted more than Stn. A and B. These data for the spatial properties in sediment showed that organic matter was related positively to the sediment silt-clay content. Also, in the case of heavy metals contamination in surface sediments, Stn. C was higher than Stn. A and B. Particularly, at the Stn. C, high organic matter concentration and C/N ratio value( >10) indicated that the sediment was composed highly of land-derived organic matter. From these results, it considered that the correlation analysis among to silt-clay, organic matter and heavy metal was found to have a good interrelationship.

돈분뇨 슬러리 액비저장조내 침전물 특성 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Sediment from Pig Manure Slurry in Liquid Fertiluzer Storage Tank)

  • Liquid fertilization of pig manure slurry is very useful treatment method to recycle organic waste matter as a valuable fertilizer. The solids precipitate and accumulated at the bottom of liquid fertilization tank. The content of nitrogen and phosphate are higher in sediment than pig manure slurry. The pH of sediment was 7.53. S-COD/T-COD ratio of pig manure slurry and sediment were 0.477, 0.29, respectively. The moisture content of sediment of pig manure slurry and sediment were 80.45~83.82%, 97%, respectively. The content of organic matter of sediment was 8.79~10.56%. The content of nitrogen and phosphate of sediment and pig manure slurry were 9,000~11,100 mg/L, 9,100~11,100 mg/L, respectively. The particle size of pig manure slurry was distributed from 2 mm to 0.125 mm. On the other hand. the particle size of sediment was under 0.125 mm.

Chemical Properties of Sediment in Nanakita Estuarine Tidal Flat: Estimation of Sedimentary Organic Matter Origin by Stable Isotope and Fatty Acid

  • The spatial variation of organic matter sources in tidal flat sediment of the Nanakita River estuary, involving Gamo lagoon on the north-east coast of Honshu Island, Japan, was examined using carbon stable isotopes and fatty acid biomarkers. The spatial variation of total organic carbon (TOC) contents and ${\delta}^{13}C$ values were highly variable in between the stations, such as sandy flat (1.3 mg/g, -21.0‰), sand-muddy flat (2.6 mg/g, -21.9‰), and muddy flat (24.9 mg/g, -25.9‰), respectively. Particularly, at the muddy flat, high TOC content and low ${\delta}^{13}C$ value of the sediments indicated that the surface sediment was composed largely of terrestrial organic matter. Whereas, at the sandy flat and sand-muddy flat, the high ratios of diatom and bacteria biomarkers indicated the high contribution of abundant microorganism along with marine organic matter in sediment composition. From these results, it considered that the amount and origin of transported sedimentary organic matter indicated different characteristics in this study stations.

연안 양식장 퇴적물을 이용한 비료화 가능성 연구 (Feasibility Study of Producing an Organic Fertilizer using Sediments from Coastal Farming Areas)

  • In an attempt to evaluate the possibility of producing an organic fertilizer using sediments from coastal farming areas, the chemical composition, bacteriological quality and heavy metals in the sediments alkalized by conditions : a 1:4 mixture of dry sediment to food wastes and the addition of 30% quicklime to the mixture. According to the classification standard for compost constituent by Higgins, all composts had a low or intermediate grade in T-N and $K_2O$ content, a low grade in $P_2O_5$ and a high grade in CaO and MgO content. Stabilization by quicklime and magnesium hydroxide is likely to inhibit th bacterial decomposition of organic matter and the actigity of pathogenic organic. Raising the pH of stabilized sediment to 12 for 2 hours(PSRP criteria of EPA) allowed 99.99% of the coliform group, fecal group and viable cell count to be reduced. the results suggested that the crude fertilizer produced by alkaline stabilization method was innoxious and thereby the sediments from coastal farming areas could be used as organic fertilizer.

금강권역의 호소 및 하천 퇴적물 특성 비교 (Comparison of the Characteristics of Reservoir and Stream Sediments in Kum River basin)

  • In order to study the general characteristics of reservoir and stream sediments, various analysis tests were conducted. Water contents and ignition loss were measured to know the primary sediment characteristics. The COD, total phosphorus and nitrogen were contained for the determination of organic substance content. For the purpose of establishing the contamination degree of heavy metals, some heavy metal contents were investigated. In heavy metal contents, reservoir sediments showed somewhat higer value than stream sediments. As a result, the reservoir sediment content of all analysis items were higher than stream sediment.

의암호에 유입되는 오염물질 관리를 통한 호소 수질개선 방안 (Measures to improve water quality of Lake Euiam by controlling the incoming pollutants to the lake)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest the alternative measures to properly manage the water quality of Lake Euiam, Chuncheon. Current pollution level of Gongji stream (influent to Lake Euiam) and sources of contamination in Lake Euiam were investigated. Particle size, organic matter and nutrient contents, heavy metals were analyzed for sediment samples taken from lower region of Gongji stream. Average organic matter content of nine sediment samples was 5.7%, and for nitrogen and phosphorus it was 750 mg/kg and 977mg/kg, respectively. Heavy metals including aluminum, iron, manganese and zinc were measured, whereas Cd and As were not detected. Effluent from Chuncheon Wastewater Treatment Plant appeared to be one of the main cause of organic matter and nutrients level in Lake Euiam. Inhibition of primary production and consequent reduction of organic matter content within the Lake should be a key measure to protect the water quality of Lake Euiam. Preventive measures to reduce the level of nutrients in wastewater treatment effluent were found necessary.
