The purpose of this study was to estimate the morphology and the size of permanent maxillary molar in Korean Adult. The 100 dental college students with a normal dentition and without any dental prosthesis and severe caries were selected for this study. The subjects were taken impression to make study model. On the study model, authour three times measured those sizes and estimated morphological structures with a calipers, a Boley gauge and a protractor. The results were as follows; 1. In the maxilary first molar's clinical crown height, mesiolingual cusp height was 6.34mm, mesiobuccal cusp height was 6.05mm, distobuccal cusp height was 5.20mm. And in the maxillary second molar's clinical crown height, mesiobuccal cusp height was 5.85mm, mesiolingual cusp height was 5.71mm, distobuccal cusp height was 5.51mm, distolingual cusp height was 3.53mm. This result considered that the maxillary first molar inclined to distobuccal, and the maxillary second molar more upright than the maxillary first molar. 2. In the width of clinical crown, the maxillary first molar was 10.43mm, the maxillary second molar was 10.20mm, and the difference between the first molar's width and the second molar's width was 0.23mm. 3. The crown thickness was measured divided into mesial buccolingual half and distal buccolingual half. The mesial buccolingual half was 11.14mm, and distal buccolingual half was 10.35mm in the maxillary first molar, and in the maxilary second molar, mesial buccolingual half was 11.25mm, and distal buccolingual half was 9.72mm. This result considered that height of convergency located in mesial half of crown. 4. In the buccal groove length, total length and ratio, the maxillary first molar was 52.5%, the maxillary second molar was 50%. And the development of buccal groove in the maxillary first molar was 59% in case of the well developed buccal groove and 41% in case of the weak developed one. And frequency of buccal pit of the maxillary first molar was 12.5%. Whereas, the frequency of buccal of the well developed buccal groove in the maxillary second molar was 37% and that of the weak developed one was 63%. And frequency of buccal pit of the maxillary second molar was not seen. 5. The 3 cusp type tooth cannot be found in the maxillary first molar and the frequency of 3 cusp type tooth in the maxillary second molar was as small as 6% 6. In the case of 4 cusp type tooth, the size of distal lingual cusp molar was difference between in the maxillary first molar and in the maxillary second molar by about 1mm. 7. The intercuspal distance was similar in the maxillary first premolar and second molar. And intercuspal distanc of mesial half of the maxillary first molar and the maxillary second molar was silmillar, too. 8. The an measurement of occlusal surface in 4 cusp type tooth showed that the angle of occlusal surface between the distobuccal and mesiolingual was an obtuse angle, and the angle of occlusal surface between mesiobuccal and distolingual was an acute angle in the both cases of maxillary first and second molar. 9. The measurements of the development of Carabelli cusp showed that the frequency of the well developed one was 7% and that of the weak developed one was 56% in the maxillary first molar. And there cannot be found the well developed one and can be found 2.5% only in the case of the weak developed one in the maxillary second molar. 10. The well developed oblique ridge in the maxillary first molar showed the 100% frequency and that in the maxillary second molar showed the 85.5% frequency. The frequency of mesiomarginal ridge tubercle in the maxillary first molar was 82% and that in the maxillary second molar was 30.5%. And the frequency of distal accessory tubercle in the maxillary first molar can be seen about 19% and that in the maxillary second molar can be seen about 12%.
The incidence of second-grade milk production in 9 dairy farms of South Korea was investigated from May 2011 to March 2012, and the serum composition of cows producing first- and second-grade milk in 14 farms including the 9 farms was analyzed. The incidence rate of second-grade milk production of 402 cows in nine dairy farms located in the central and southwestern regions of Korea was 15.4% with the highest rate being 34.4%. Seasonal morbidity was higher during late winter (February) and early summer (June) with the highest rate observed in February (32.6%) followed by November (33.3%). Second-grade milk was most frequently found within one month postpartum (34.1%) while only 3.5% was found during the first 60~90 days of lactating period (n=785, 5 herds). The morbidity increased thereafter (P<0.05) with the highest observed between 270~300 days of lactation (36.1%). The acidity was not significantly different between second-grade ($0.159{\pm}0.026%$) and first-grade milk ($0.158{\pm}0.027%$). Blood serum analysis of 371 cows in the 14 dairy farms indicated that aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level was significantly higher (P<0.001) in cows producing second-grade milk while albumin was significantly lower (P<0.001) than cows producing first-grade milk. Total protein and triglyceride was also significantly low along with glucose, non-esterified fatty acid and blood urea nitrogen in cows producing second-grade milk. Statistical analysis including sensitivity, specificity and positive/negative prediction values showed that lactating cows with high AST, low albumin, total protein and triglyceride levels in the serum tended to produce second-grade milk. It was concluded that serological parameters, especially live functional and metabolic-related serum compositions (AST, albumin, total protein and triglyceride), were significantly influenced in cows producing second-grade milk.

Most of impacted teeth reported are permanent teeth. Impaction of primary tooth caused by primary failure of eruption is rare and the most of impacted primary tooth are second primary molars. The etiology of a primary molar impaction would appear to be a physical barrier, early ankylosis of the tooth, abnormal development of the primary molar germ or malposition of the successor bud. Transposition has been described as an interchange in the position of two teeth within the same quadrant of the dental arch. It is most commonly seen with canine and lateral incisor teeth, but is rarely associated with the primary dentition. The two cases show the transposition of impacted primary molar and the tooth germ of second premolar in their clinical and radiographic examinations. In case 1, lower second primary molar was deeply impacted inferiorly to the tooth germ suspected to be a second premolar. In case 2, impacted all second primary molars were positioned inferiorly to the tooth germs suspected to be the successors. We extracted all second primary molars under general anesthesia and the extracted tooth germs appeared to be second premolars.
Objective: Crocin has been proposed as a promising candidate for cancer chemoprevention. The purpose of this investigation was to investigate the chemopreventive action and the possible mechanisms of crocin against human colon cancer cells in vitro. Methods: Cell proliferation was examined using MTT assay and the cell cycle distribution fractions were analyzed using fow cytometric analysis after propidium iodide staining. Apoptosis was detected using theTUNEL Apoptosis Detection Kit with laser scanning confocal microscope. DNA damage was assessed using the alkaline single-cell gel electrophoresis assay, while expression levels of p53, cdk2, cyclinA and P21 were examined by Western blot analysis. Results: Treatment of SW480 cells with crocetin (0.2, 0.4, 0.8 mmol/L) for 48 h signifcantly inhibited their proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner. Crocetin (0.8 mmol/L) signifcantly induced cell cycle arrest through p53-independent mechanisms accompanied by P21 induction. Crocetin (0.8 mmol/L) caused cytotoxicity in the SW480 cells by enhancing apoptosis and decreasing DNA repair capacity in a time-dependent manner. Conclusions: This report provides evidence that crocetin is a potential anticancer agent, which may be used as a chemotherapeutic drug.
This study was performed with, two groups of 369 pregnant women, which consisted of the first group of 186 pregnant women taking physical examinations for birth at the Korea clinic in Seoul during the months of November and December in 1972, and the second group of 183 pregnant women taking physical examinations for birth at the Kang Won Provincial Hospital for the 12 months from October, 1972 to September 1973, as the results of this study the following concussion was obtained. 1. Age distribution indicated that the group of 25 through 34 age among them fallen 76 percent. 2. The time of the first physical examination by the 76% pregnant women of the second group at Chun Chon was in the initial period of pregnancy, but the time of that by every 33% pregnant women of the first group in Seoul came to the initial, middle and late period of pregnancy, evenly. 3. The 65.6% of the second group had one or two times of physical examination and the 80% of the first group had one to eight times of physical examination. 4. The mean pregnancy times was 1.9 to the first group and 2.8 to the second group, showing high pregnancy rate in Seoul city- 5. The 57.3% of the first group and the 31.3% of the second group did one times of abortion. The 3.2% of the first group and the 10.7% of the second group did more then six times of abortion, this meant big difference between two groups. The 24.1% of the first group had four times of pregnancy and the 18.1% of the second group had three or four times of it. These percentages was the highest of all. 6. Death rate during the period of pregnancy was shown to be 3.2% to the first group and 9.7% to the second group, consequently indicating gre311y high death rate in local city. 7. Many of the first group have three children and some of the second group have seven children. 8. As to totemics of pregnancy, 23.7% of the first group, and 49.7% of the second group were shown to have totemics of pregnancy, consequently with greatly high totemics rate of pregnancy in local city. The 4.0% of the first group and 37.0% of the second group was short of hemoglobin, with remarkable difference between the two groups.

Distal caries of the second molar is common indication for the mandibular third molar surgery and there are no universally acceptable predictive criteria for distal caries of the second molar. To analyze the correlation of the distal caries of the second molar and the eruption state of the mandibular third molar using panoramic radiographs statistically and propose the acceptable guideline for preventive extraction of the mandibular third molar. 786 patients who were extracted the mandibular third molar from 2002 to 2006 at Samsung medical center were examined. The presence and absence of distal caries of mandibular second molar, age, gender, angulation, impaction degree, distance between distal cementoenamel junction of the second molar and mesial cementoenamel junction of the mandibular third molar were assessed. 79.6% of third molars had a mesial angulation of between $40^{\circ}$ and $80^{\circ}$. The mean age of third molar removal for distal caries of second molar was $33.86{\pm}9.81$. The prophylactic removal of a mesio-angular third molar about $40^{\circ}$ and $80^{\circ}$ could prevent distal cervical caries forming in the mandibular second molar.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of third molar extraction on the periodontal status of the adjacent second molar. A total of 61 second molars in 31 adult periodontitis patients were examined. Among them, 27 second molars without adjacent third molars were included in the test group, and 34 second molars with third molar were included in the control group. Clinical parameters including plaque index, gingival index, and pocket depth and radiographic bone loss were measured around the second molar both in test and control group. The result showed that: (1) the mean plaque index and gingival index of control group were higher than these of the test group but the difference was not statistically significant, (2) the mean pocket depth of the control group was higher than the test group significantly at distal and buccal surface, (3) radiographic hone loss was greater in control group than test group significantly, (4) in Pearson correlation analysis between the age of extraction and radiographic bone loss in the test group, a positive relationship was shown(p<0.01). Within limitation of this study, it may be concluded that third molar extraction in periodontitis patients showed an improvement in periodontal status in contrast the patients group having third molar, therefore earlier a removal of third molar may minimize radiographic hone loss of the adjacent second molar.
Background: To investigate the effect of celecoxib on telomerase activity and apoptosis in a human laryngeal squamous carcinoma cell line (Hep-2 cells). Materials and Methods: The growth inhibition rate of Hep-2 cells in vitro was measured by MTT assay, and apoptosis by TUNEL assay and flow cytometry (FCM). The TRAP-ELISA method was used to determine telomerase activity in Hep-2 cells. The mRNA expression of human telomerase RNA component(hTR), human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) and human telomerase-associated protein(hTEP1) was determined by RT-PCR assay. Expression of Bax and Bcl-2 proteins was assessed by Western blotting. Results: Celecoxib can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in a dose- and time-dependent manner, repress telomerase activity, decrease hTERT mRNA and Bcl-2 protein expression and increase Bax protein expression, PGE2 had no effect on telomerase. Conclusions: Celecoxib had the antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effect in Hep-2 cells. Apoptosis was accompanied by a decrease in telomerase activity which was directly correlated with hTERT mRNA and up-regulation of Bax/Bcl-2. Bcl-2 may thus play an important role in telomerase activity as well as apoptosis.
Objective: Microarray data were analyzed to explore key genes and their functions in progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Two microarray data sets were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using corresponding packages of R. Functional enrichment analysis was performed with DAVID tools to uncover their biological functions. Results: 631 and 590 DEGs were obtained from the two data sets, respectively. A total of 32 common DEGs were then screened out with the rank product method. The significantly enriched GO terms included inflammatory response, response to wounding and response to drugs. Two interleukin-related domains were revealed in the domain analysis. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that the PPAR signaling pathway and the renin-angiotensin system were enriched in the DEGs. Conclusions: Our study to systemically characterize gene expression changes in CRC with microarray technology revealed changes in a range of key genes, pathways and function modules. Their utility in diagnosis and treatment now require exploration.
